The lighting choices you make emulate the original trilogy's construction sets so well. This is proof a large-scale Star Wars TV series wouldn't be outside the realm of impossible.
Holy shit man! That was the most incredible thing I've watched from a non-blockbuster movie! As a fellow filmmaker I am completely blown away by the skill you show here. The lighting and camera angles you chose were superb! I mean I am just in awe
This scene is depicted in the novel Lost Stars. The downed Star Destroyer was brought down in self destruction rather than a direct hit from the rebels. Good video though. The incorporation of the falcon is seamless.
+Daniel Broadway its more than enough to be called a fan speculation xD its all about thinking up your own story. Its not gonna be fun to watch if its just the same as the comics or Universe series. Great video! enjoyed it even though I knew about the real background of the story(ie imperials losing even one super star destroyer trying to achieve and overwhelming victor and et cetera.)
It's not often I'm this deeply impressed. The others are right, if I showed this to someone who didn't know, they'd swear it was an actual scene leaked straight from Industrial Light and Magic.
My god....That honestly has to be one of the best Animations regarding Starwars I have seen. I want to get more involved in 3D animation and FumeFX but I can never grasp even the most basic understanding on the matter. This was beautiful. 10/10
Even if the prequel novel doesn't go like this, from what I heard, this is a MUCH more badass and cinematic manner to start off the Battle Of Jakku. Loved the inclusion of the seismic charge ! Guess Han loot some goodies from the unguarded Slave I XD I seriously hope Rogue One, the Anthology movie coming out next Christmas, has space battles this good !!!! Really well done !
Daniel Broadway... I am speechless. I mean, I don't even know what to say about this. I have watched this 3 times and it is MIND BLOWINGLY AWESOME!!! All I have now are a bunch of questions!!! Such as: -What software was used to create this? -Did you build the models, yourself? Or were they sourced from somewhere?! -The lighting, materials and mapping of these ships is ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS!! Did you do the UV wraps or did they come with the models?? -Can you teach me how to light a scene the way you did with this!? Do you teach this stuff?! If not, you definitely should!!! Man, I just can't get over how incredible this is!! Everything from the Perfectly-smooth camera work, lighting, that insanely, incredible "inside the cockpit" shot of the TIE Fighter, pristine model rigging and animation, that INSANE series of explosions at the end and the way that the large flame PERFECTLY morphs and follows the frame of the Star Destroyer as it billows out of the Hull!!! .... CRAPP man!! I need to talk to you in person!!!
I wish YT would let me give you more than a "thumbs up" because this is wonderful. Admittedly, I wish it was longer, but I've watched this like four time already!
That was insanely cool!! The only improvement I can see is if you made the music cut/fade when the bomb started to go off so we had complete silence. Minor detail but I think it would have made the sequence even cooler. Either way, that was incredible!
You have a better sense of pacing than J.J. Abrams ended up having. Also, your short space battle is more engaging than most of the stuff that ended up in The Force Awakens.
Hey man, do you think you can still do a tutorial for that crossguard lightsaber effect? It was sick, probably the best ive seen on youtube. Anyway, if not, do you mind maybe giving some quick tips for it under this comment? I'm quite familiar with AE so should be fine.
Beautiful work man! All of the 3d models have been modeled by your team not from the internet? I loved the camera angles. Can you please elaborate how you create it? Nuke? Inside Max? And beautiful explosions. Looks like you incorported fumefx or something Really appreciate a VFX breakdown of your workflow!! :)
Wow I really enjoyed this, excellent animating mate. Tell me, did you light the falcon in 3dsmax or post prod in AE ? I'm trying to make some TIE interceptors, but am struggling with making the proper light setup(the little red dot lights on the fighters) inside of maya.
Very cool, I like the lighting of the opening scene and the one at 02:00 - it remind me of the scene in Return of the Jedi as they're going into the Death Star! Were the models made from scratch? I know lots of people use the Star Destroyer model from Scifi3D.
Could you possibly do a behind the scenes breakdown or tutorial on how you were able to achieve such realistic action sequences? How you got the "inside tie fighter" view and the different camera angles? Awesome stuff!
What did you model/render this in? It looks amazing. How did you create the stars? It looks exactly like the movies. Also, I'm patiently waiting for the cross guard tut :D
Would you mind telling me how you created those lights on the battle cruiser at 1:48?? I've been trying to create lights like those for ages but to no avail.. thanks man
Daniel, Amazing Video. If you dont mind, can I ask you a couple questions over email about the opening shot? I too am making a star wars film and would love to hear what you think about it so far.
Out of curiosity, did you give Film Storm permission to upload this? Because while they did credit you, they didn't provide a link to your channel, and as such they're getting all the credit for your hard work.
+Daniel Broadway Alright, just wanted to make sure. This is truly spectacular work, by the way. I'm hoping to see more of this kind of thing from you in the future! You seriously made me believe that I was watching an official piece of cinematic tie-in!
+Daniel Broadway Wow , I really like the effects. Can you do a tutorial for the space war including the 3d and the camera movement please???( I really need to know how to do it xD). And of course you have a like and a new subscriber ;)
Some friends and I are about to make a Star Wars Fan Film and we would love to have scenes with Star Destroyers and an Intro of one ship on space arriving a planet. Would you like to join us?
Hey Daniel, whats your email? We're a Film Company based in California and wer'e trying to contact you regarding a project we're working on. Thank You.
The lighting choices you make emulate the original trilogy's construction sets so well. This is proof a large-scale Star Wars TV series wouldn't be outside the realm of impossible.
The fans of 2020 certainly agree
Highest quality rendering of a Star Wars fan film I've ever seen.
Holy shit man! That was the most incredible thing I've watched from a non-blockbuster movie! As a fellow filmmaker I am completely blown away by the skill you show here. The lighting and camera angles you chose were superb! I mean I am just in awe
+Casey McBeath Thanks. I really appreciate that.
Truly, they should hire you and the others. @@dbroadwayvfx
ILM should hire this guy.
THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE!!! CONGRATULATIONS I WAS SURPRISE THAT THIS WASNT AN ORIGINAL LUCAS WORK WOW!!!!
This scene is depicted in the novel Lost Stars. The downed Star Destroyer was brought down in self destruction rather than a direct hit from the rebels.
Good video though. The incorporation of the falcon is seamless.
+Antoine Bandele Yeah, I found that out after having already rendered 3/4ths of this animation. ha!
+Daniel Broadway Thats ok I like your version. ;)
+Antoine Bandele I haven't read the book, but that only accounts for one of the Star Destroyers. How did the others get there?
Actually, the captain of the star destroyer set it on a collision course with Jakku.
YOU'RE HIRED! I have no idea what for yet, but you're hired! Excellent work all around!
This is so incredible. How do you not have more feckin views after 4 years?
It's not often I'm this deeply impressed. The others are right, if I showed this to someone who didn't know, they'd swear it was an actual scene leaked straight from Industrial Light and Magic.
absolutely freaking awesome... now the battle of jakku has more to make me understand.
This looks better than anithing disney out out to date since acquiring star wars
You're truly very gifted matey. Thanks for sharing.
My god....That honestly has to be one of the best Animations regarding Starwars I have seen. I want to get more involved in 3D animation and FumeFX but I can never grasp even the most basic understanding on the matter. This was beautiful. 10/10
If i was an ILM employee i would say
"You truly belong here with us among the cloud...errr i mean.....animators!"
Even if the prequel novel doesn't go like this, from what I heard, this is a MUCH more badass and cinematic manner to start off the Battle Of Jakku.

The CGI is awesome for a fan made production! good enough for a TV series
This video needs more recognition.
I wish YT would let me give you more than a "thumbs up" because this is wonderful. Admittedly, I wish it was longer, but I've watched this like four time already!
This lighting is even better than the photos from the Apollo missions. You should see if NASA is hiring. 🙂
BRILLIANT!!! Absolutely superb!!!
It looks wonderful. Great work!
That was insanely cool!! The only improvement I can see is if you made the music cut/fade when the bomb started to go off so we had complete silence. Minor detail but I think it would have made the sequence even cooler. Either way, that was incredible!
this is the fyest star wars fan film ever
You have a better sense of pacing than J.J. Abrams ended up having. Also, your short space battle is more engaging than most of the stuff that ended up in The Force Awakens.
I tried to keep it fast and exciting without going into overdrive.
+Daniel Broadway I wish he had.
SWEEEEEEEET!! I love Seismic charges :D I'v always wanted to see how a Star Destroyer would fair against one.
2:09 I love that sound
Well Done! Turned out really good
Wow the visual style is like from the original trilogy.Very well done!
Excellent work.
Simply awesome! Welldone!👏👏👏👏👏
this CG is soooo good
Awesome effects feel like the original! Some of the best fan-made I've seen. You guys should keep at this Star Wars stuff
Hey man, do you think you can still do a tutorial for that crossguard lightsaber effect? It was sick, probably the best ive seen on youtube. Anyway, if not, do you mind maybe giving some quick tips for it under this comment? I'm quite familiar with AE so should be fine.
OMG, THIS IS HOLYWOOD LEVEL
Awesome Daniel, congrats!
That was awesome. Really well done.

Sonic charges. Nice.
Esto es excelente hermano!! The force is strong in you! Believe in you.. i do :D
amazing work man..
Fantastic job!
Visually really cool. But... a single seismic charge took out a star destroyer? What a pity the rebellion didn't think of *that* sooner...
Very nice Danny B!
Top notch man, top notch !
Um, is it just me or is the backlit star destroyer in that opening shot shockingly realistic?
that was pretty dope
holy crap thats amazing
What programme do you use to animate this?
How much time it took?
What graphic card did you used ?
Incredible!!!
Very cool, I like the lighting of the opening scene and the one at 02:00 - it remind me of the scene in Return of the Jedi as they're going into the Death Star! Were the models made from scratch? I know lots of people use the Star Destroyer model from Scifi3D.
This is amazing!! What Program did you use and where were did you get the models from if you dont mind me asking?
+TomPTV Programs used were 3ds max and After Effects. Got the models from scifi3d.com
that....that is a BIG seismic charge.....
eek
Holy sh*t amazing!!! I read somewhere you did this in AE. Is that true? What did you use, E3D for the the CG?
+Cornelius Winklefarnham Animated in 3ds max, composited in AE.
WOW that was awesome!
Could you possibly do a behind the scenes breakdown or tutorial on how you were able to achieve such realistic action sequences? How you got the "inside tie fighter" view and the different camera angles? Awesome stuff!

+elmo274 3ds max. compositing in AE
+Daniel Broadway How did you make the background starfield pan and move? i assume it was a fractal noise to make the stars?
Very nice!
Would you mind telling me how you created those lights on the battle cruiser at 1:48?? I've been trying to create lights like those for ages but to no avail.. thanks man
I guess it is a texture set to emitting light
AWESOME!!!
I demand process shots! (so cool - how did you do this?)
Daniel, Amazing Video. If you dont mind, can I ask you a couple questions over email about the opening shot? I too am making a star wars film and would love to hear what you think about it so far.
you know that your video is posted on some other guys youtube channel? And, superbly done by the way.
Yeah, I know. I don't mind.
Out of curiosity, did you give Film Storm permission to upload this? Because while they did credit you, they didn't provide a link to your channel, and as such they're getting all the credit for your hard work.
No, I didn't give them permission. But I have no problem with them having it on their channel.
+Daniel Broadway Alright, just wanted to make sure. This is truly spectacular work, by the way. I'm hoping to see more of this kind of thing from you in the future! You seriously made me believe that I was watching an official piece of cinematic tie-in!
I know the Rebels season 2 soundtrack is used, but, which song?
Please tell me where you got the 3D models! The quality of everything is literally amazing!
scifi3d.com
Even the Millennium Falcon?
Sorry, no. I bought that from Turbosquid.
ahh, okay! Very well done!
Hey, I know the film storm upload credits you and all, but were they given permission?
No, I didn't give them permission, but I don't mind either.
Ah, thats good :)
Your work is amazing and i cant wait to see more :D
+Daniel Broadway
Wow , I really like the effects. Can you do a tutorial for the space war including the 3d and the camera movement please???( I really need to know how to do it xD). And of course you have a like and a new subscriber ;)
+Paula Martin Yeah man, beautiful camera movements. Probably all done in 3d space
wow.
Some friends and I are about to make a Star Wars Fan Film and we would love to have scenes with Star Destroyers and an Intro of one ship on space arriving a planet. Would you like to join us?
Holy cow! How long did this take to do?!
+Shadowkey392 About 6 months working off and on.
Make the crossguard lightsaber tutorial!!!
Could I use this for a film project? I will give you full credit and a shoutout in the credits of my film!
Can i use small bits of this for a trailer?
John Doe Sure.
Drawing in quite a viewing. :P
Can I use this in my fan film if I give you credit
Sure.
More!
Nice vid but the actual animation was only like 35 seconds out of a 3 minute video
Awesome job wahhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
How much time do you Need?
Fantastic work! We are looking for great visual effects for a short we already filmed. It would be great to work together. Check us out.
What kind of effects are you looking to add?
Can I do this in blender? Cause dang son, that is some awesome animation.
Yes. Anything I've done here should be possible in Blender.
thanks!
What is the soundtrack name on 1:37?
+Alexey Andreevich It's "Imperials Incoming" from Star Wars Rebels Season 2.
Make the kylo ren lightsaber tutorial please!!!!!
No.
If i ever wanted to hire you for anything, how much would it cost to have your services.
+FilmNation I'm afraid I don't freelance.
Oh, do you only work for studio's or..
+FilmNation I have a 9-5 job, but I don't work outside of that.
K
Hey Daniel, whats your email? We're a Film Company based in California and wer'e trying to contact you regarding a project we're working on.
Thank You.
Hey, Richard. I do not currently freelance. Thanks.
What program did you use to make these animations ?
Maya, Blender 3Dsmax. etc. Blender is free, and I like to use it often.
Oh my god! It's awesome! Just one question... In which programs made this animation ? Can you tell your secret ? :D
+Ruslan Skipper 3ds max and After Effects.
+Daniel Broadway Thanks!) And just last question.. Where you found the sound of explosion ? There is no such sounds on official Lucasarts website
