Pretty incredible that you were able to catch them.
Yeah, they are really fast.
Unfortunately because you released them so close to your home/garage (it looked like you walked inly a few feet from the garage to a forested area?) these mice are likely to return when it gets cold and they need shelter.
Deer mice are really smart and habituate to their area. It is suggested to release at least 2 miles or more away from your home. Also if you have been overwintering or keeping them in a cage/feeding them for a while, it's suggested to soft release them by placing the cage in an area protected by bushes/brambles so predatory animals and birds cannot easily see and prey in them, then after a day or 2 remove the cage but leave food tucked in between rocks or a tree where they can come back for it. It increases their chances of survival. As far as space per deer mouse...40 gallon tank or sterlite bin per mouse. They need a lot of space, they are used to having 2 acres!
I found a nest of babies in my garage and spent the rest of my afternoon to catch the mom. After she raised them then I set them free.
Nice!
