    On Tuesday, June 28, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue will conduct a training house burn at 635 SE 18th Avenue. The Burn-to-Learn exercise will give valuable live-fire training in a residential structure to Hillsboro's newly-hired firefighter recruits, as well as the department's career and volunteer firefighters.
    The Burn-to-Learn exercise will begin at 9am when Hillsboro Fire & Rescue training officers set small fires, one at a time, inside the house. Training officers will then accompany firefighters inside to extinguish the fires. The drill will be supervised by experienced, career firefighters and will adhere to strict safety guidelines. Firefighters have ensured that all that remains in the home is normal, non-hazardous building materials. Once the interior training is completed, the house will be allowed to burn in a controlled and safe manner. There will be teams of firefighters at the scene from beginning until all flames are extinguished.
    Motorists can expect that traffic on SE 18th Avenue from SE Maple Street to SE Oak Crest Drive will be closed from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
    Hillsboro Fire & Rescue conducts these types of training burns a few times a year. Training Officer Jeff Gurske explains, "Live fire training exercises are especially valuable for Hillsboro Fire & Rescue's newest firefighters by allowing them to witness fire behavior and smoke conditions in a burning structure." Gurske added, "Firefighters are able to learn the capabilities of their equipment and apply tactics in a controlled environment."
    The home used in this training exercise was donated by the owner to make way for future construction on the property.
    Audio is from an unrelated incident in May at a nearby house fire. Audio Provided by Broadcastify.

    Rookie school, 1986, Texas. 105 degrees. We had a training fire like this one, with occupied homes on either side. I was scared to death! Lol. Please please please don't let this get away from us. And if it does, please please please don't let it be my fault!
    Went off without a hitch!
    Texas retired, 29 years.

    It will be interesting to see how many more dumb comments will be made about why this fire wasn't attacked differently. It is right there in the description. It was a learn and burn, or for training purposes and not one that should be expected to be attacked in the form of "get it out". The attack to bushes and trees, among neighboring houses was to be sure they kept the training fire from spreading and damaging other things nearby, not because they cared about a tree more than a house. The house was meant to burn here.

      Well maybe, just maybe it shouldn't say "structure fire" and "Flashover" in the video description... Maybe it should say "training fire" instead of being misleading.

    • @kadenm661
      @kadenm661 8 лет назад +2

      I can agree with that, but at the same time, too many people click and watch without reading the description with details. So, yeah, the title could've been a bit different.

      Yeah as far as I know we do not conduct training house fires in Australia. Even training car fires are not allowed in my urban area because of the pollutants. So it does surprise me that they have these types of events in the first place.

    Buena la toma !! Flojo el trabajo de los bomberos ya se se limitan a impedir que el fuego se propague pero hacen muy poco por apagar el foco del fuego. Más son los que miran que los que tiran agua !!

    yes I understand I was a firefighter for 15 years but I was trained to put the biggest problem out first then deal with the small problems later so that's why I don't understand why they are going for the small fires first but whatever I'm not putting out this fire so..

    • @greyman686
      @greyman686 7 лет назад +2

      They don't want to put the fire out, that's the whole point of it. They're burning it down so the owner can eventually clear the lot and build a new house.

      Fire Videos really? Little risk? What if something goes wrong. I’m assuming your a fire buff of some kind by your name . You know as well as any firefighter, fire is uncontrollable. If the house flares up just enough to ignite the house next to it, then what? Oops? I agree, shouldn’t have been done in a rural area, too many IF’s involved

    I don’t know, I wouldn’t have done a training burn this close to other houses. What if something went wrong, they lost control? Not to mention the smoke from the fire going into other homes? Not a well thought plan if oh ask me. And the fact they were given permission is even more questionable.

    • @jerseybigblue2111
      @jerseybigblue2111 8 лет назад

      A priority is always to protect exposures, but the hand line should have been able to handle that, including the bushes which could have flashed over. Not clear why the tower ladder focused on the same area instead of moving to the end of the fire building itself.

    • @hazard6812
      @hazard6812 8 лет назад +1

      it was a controlled burn, even if it wasn't the structure was obviously abandoned and already destroyed. there's nothing to salvage in that house so it's better to just let it burn and make sure the fire doesn't spread and catch the rest of the neighborhood on fire because then they'll have a big problem

      fyi i did read the description and i stand by what i said, it only took someone 2 weeks to respond to what i said and if its a training fire shouldnt they be learning to put it out rather than standing there watching it watering the trees, must be nice to have houses to just burn to the ground rather than do them up and let some homeless people have them. P.s love the name is that what you drive cause that explains a lot

    • @greyman686
      @greyman686 7 лет назад +4

      They did train with the building and the next step is burning it to the ground. Help the homeless? Why is it the property owners job to do that? They want the house gone to build a new one and they donated that house to the FD to get rid of it. Win, win for everyone.
