I played the X-wing Miniatures Game from day one. Being a "First Generation" fan of STAR WARS, I absolutely loved playing the game. I haven't had a chance to play it for a while now.
Back in 2011, I, along with a group of friends, was happy to be selected to be playtesters for the original game that dropped at Gen Con 2012.
Imagine if they had made a ground-based game compatible with X-Wing they could have lasted for another 12 years. You would have fat tanks. Infantry and used the X-Wing Miniatures as air support to the ground based game. Instead of going bigger with chatterpoint they could have went smaller with a epic Legion.
2.0 was a huge blunder and absolutely killed the game in my area. What a waste.

everyone here just continued on playing 1.0 and the people who still play are still using that.
Maybe there might be a place for it as a 3d printable fame in the future. As a few other games have been doing recently.
It has not been any help when Disney can't do a single Star wars movie that anyone will watch.
Except Rogue One, it was awesome

Disney has made the Star Wars brand toxic with its gross mismanagement of the IP.
Gee, I wonder if Disney absolutely obliterating the popular appeal of the Star Wars brand had anything to do with it....
maybe, but the reboot of the game itself is definitely what killed it. That and the Star Trek version had greatly streamlined rules with much better narrative scenarios and OP play (sadly Wizkids kind of killed off that game as well).
@@Trueflights But the original game they were both based on (Wings of War, a WW1 airplane game) never gained much popularity, despite having fundamentally the same rules as X-Wing. The appeal of tying your game to a popular IP makes a big difference.
@@bronco5334 Certainly it helps, but at the same time, so does innovation. The templates are a lot more interesting than the original card system that was used in Wings of War. I would never have even tried X-Wing or Attack Wing regardless of the franchise if they were still using that original mechanic.
Having played all those games, Wings of War was very much a WW1 feel and felt rather clunky and “forever in beta testing” compared to X-Wing 1.0.
1.0 Really felt like a perfect game when it came out. What killed it was that there was no central database for the expansion rules… they were all in individual products.
What 2.0 should have been was a simple database collection of those hard to find/keep rules and a couple of cardboard sheets with all of goodies so that everyone could be on the same starting level. Updating ship dials was a terrible mistake.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned that this absolutely reeks of AI generated content.
I played and collected a bunch for X-Wing, it was a good game. I'm not sure if I'd call a space dogfighter tabletop game a 'rival' to an infantry based tabletop game. While they're both tabletop games, they are very different genres of games.. Maybe it's just me on that. I've played both, both games are fun.
A lot of people dont know this, but X-wing outsold Warhammer 40k and was ranked the top miniatures game for a number of years, ending around the time of the 8th Edition 40k reboot in 2017.
X-Wing pushed the 'Kitchen table' revolution.
Needing 3'x3' space and about 3 or 4 models (unless you were TIE fighter swarming, of course), it brought the tabletop wargame back to the table.
Fantasy Flight knew what they were doing, they played the games and they also respected the other games.
I played X-Wing, I've played 40k since it began. At no point did I ever consider the two rivals. They are completely different games aimed at different crowd with different fan bases. There are some crossover for sure, but hardly anything I would ever call a rivalry
I’d have to disagree.
X-Wing came at the perfect point where GW’s neglect of the fans allowed for a myriad of other companies to eat at the pie that GW dominated.
So the general malaise of GWs fan base had was easily poached away. This was the time of Malifaux, Warmachine & Hordes, Guild Ball, Dystopian Wars, Firestorm Armada, SW Armada, Drop Fleet/Zone Commander; and many others, each eating away at GW.
Remember while X-Wing was a competitor that, IMO did what GW then didn’t do, provide newer product and a hype machine for the next thing… something modern GW has learned from… perhaps to its own detriment as it continues to move towards FOMO practices.
Asmodee never should have moved the SW mini games from FFG.
AMG never cared for them; and I’m convinced that Legion is only surviving this long due to development done by FFG still.
It will eventually fade just like its fellow games.
All so that AMG can continue to slowly neglect its OG game of MCP and its newer clone of SW shatterpoint.
AMG is a bad games developer which makes it a bad company.
