Judah Thaddeus, son of Judah of Galilee. Called Theudas by Josephus. Died by the Jordan River (that’s pretty damn close to Qumran) when he tried to lead an uprising. But there was no way he was trying to lead an uprising from Qumran, it’s the middle of the desert, so he was obviously hunted down by a certain someone…

Something that never made sense to me about the Dead Sea Scrolls, was the Teacher of Righteousness, etc. It is like this person and others existed but then didn't exist and didn't get replaced. So, if this was a movement that was in existence a couple centuries BCE, what kept it going if strategic members were no longer there? It makes sense that the action was a lot closer to the Jewish revolt against Rome.

Robert Eisenman's book 'James the brother of Jesus' and its follow up 'The new testament code' are both very good books for those interested in early christianity and its connection to the dead sea scrolls. 'James' was one of the most famous people in the Jesus period who had more written about him than almost every other prson during that period of time and it goes through it all to bring james back to life as a historical person and is a book that believers and non believers alike will enjoy if they like that period of time, history and religious life of the early church. It also can answer questions that christians and jews both have about their faiths. I read it and as soon as I finished I read it all again straight away, both books are a thousand pages long and were written by someone who obviously loves the subject of early christianity during the period mentioned in the Book of Acts
I urge everyone to read James ... At least.

Eisenmann is onto something. He shows that the leader of the Nazarenes (Jesus' sect.) in Jerusalem was James, the brother of Jesus and not Paul. Paul came along later and was highly suspect among the Nazarenes and Jews generally. Paul operated more in the Greco Roman world rather than Israel.

Because when Jesus was alive, he said Peter was the rock upon which he would build his church. James was not a believer until after the death and resurrection of Jesus (Paul says that Jesus appeared to James after his resurrection.) James was leader of the movement in Jerusalem but Peter and Paul seem to have travelled more internationally and tradition has it that they took the message of Jesus to Rome. Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 69 CE so the church had to grow elsewhere.

Of all your guests, this guy is most on task for understanding the story. He detached himself from the Christian myths before conducting his study.
When you understand what is being said here in this video, then you can go back to IO and prederism and see the glimmer of truth in those theologies.
This is why I say you must first understand the old before looking at the new, meaning see the story as a Netzarim (Jew) instead of a Christian (Off shoot or spin off religion).
The Christian vain is full of false turns and confusing pitfalls that lead to the current, modern FUBAR situation.
I say it often... In the first century, all Christians were Netzarim while very few Netzarim were Christians. If you want to get any truth about the historisity of Y’shua, you'll need to study the Netzarim... the Christians, admittedly, changed too much to be a valuable resource.

11Q13, also 11QMelch or the Melchizedek document, is a fragmentary manuscript among the Dead Sea Scrolls (from Cave 11) which mentions Melchi zedek as leader, King and High priest of Salem.
In the fragmentary passage the term "Elohim" appears a dozen times, mainly referring to the God of Israel, but in commentary on "who says to Zion "Your Elohim reigns" (Isa. 52;7) 11Q13 states that Zion is the congregation of all the sons of righteousness, while Melchizedek is "Your Elohim" who will deliver the sons of righteousness from Belial.
11QMelch II... And concerning that which He said, In [this] year of Jubilee [each of you shall return to his property (Lev. xxv, 13); and likewise, And this is the manner of release:] every creditor shall release that which he has lent [to his neighbour. He shall not exact it of his neighbour and his brother], for Yah's release [has been proclaimed] (Deut. xv, 2). [And it will be proclaimed at] the end of days concerning the captives as [He said, To proclaim liberty to the captives (Isa. lxi, 1). Its interpretation is that He] will assign them to the Sons of Heaven and to the inheritance of Melchizedek; [for He will cast] their [lot] amid the [portions of Melchizedek], who will return them there and will proclaim to them liberty, forgiving them [the wrong-doings] of all their iniquities. And this thing will [occur] in the first week of the Jubilee that follows the nine Jubilees. And the Day of Atonement is the [end of the] tenth [Jubilee], when all the Sons of [Light] (Zedek) and the men of the lot of Melchi[zedek] will be atoned for. [And] a statute concerns them [to provide] them with their rewards. For this is the moment of the Year of Grace for Melchizedek. [And he] will, by his strength, judge the holy ones of Yah, executing judgement as it is written concerning him in the Songs of David, who said, ELOH has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the Elohim, he holds judgement (Psalms lxxxii, 1). And it was concerning him that he said, (Let the assembly of the peoples) return to the height above them; ELOH (Yah) will judge the peoples (Psalms vii, 7-8). As for that which he [said, Howlong will you] judge unjustly and showpartiality to the wicked (Belial(Ba'al))? Selah(forever)(Psalms lxxxii, 2), its interpretation concerns Belial (Ba'al King of Tyre) and the spirits of his lot [who] rebelled by turning away from the precepts of Yah to ... And Melchizedek will avenge the vengeance of the judgements of Yah... and he will drag [them from the hand of] Belial and from the hand of all the [spirits of] his [lot].And all the Elohim [of Justice'] will come to his aid [to] attend to the [destruction] of Belial. And the height is ... all the sons of Yah... this ... This is the day of [Peace/Salvation] concerning which [Yah] spoke [through Isaiah] the prophet, who said, [How] beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who proclaims peace, who brings good news, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion: Your ELOHIM [reigns] (Isa. lii, 7). Its interpretation; the mountains are the prophets... and the messenger is the Anointed one of the spirit, concerning whom [Daniel] said, [Until an anointed one, a prince (Dan. ix, 25)] ... [And he who brings] good [news] , who proclaims [salvation]: it is concerning him that it is written... [To comfort all who mourn, to grant to those who mourn in Zion] (Isa. lxi, 2-3). To comfort [those who mourn: its interpretation], to make them understand all the ages of [time] ... In truth ... will turn away from Belial... by the judgement[s] of Yah, as it is written concerning him, [who says to Zion] ; your ELOHIM reigns. Zion is ..., those who uphold the Covenant, who turn from walking [in] the way of the people. And your ELOHIM is [Melchizedek, who will save them from] the hand of Belial. As for that which He said, Then you shall send abroad the [trumpet in] all the land (Lev. xxv, 9) ...

The way Josephus and the book of John separate themselves as being apart from the Jews probably had something to do with their status as probable Hellenistic Greek speaking Jews. There is room for some probability that the Christian movement was more of an Egyptian Syrian project of literature written in the void of a now destroyed temple. Im willing to bet that there was a rather uncomfortable divide and resentment between Real Torah Jews in Jerusalem and the less observant assimilated Jews in Egypt , Asia Minor and other parts of the Empire. Jews slowly becoming philosophical and looking for a position of legitimacy outside of keeping the Laws of Moses that they were no doubt criticized for by practicing Jews. No doubt the crushing of Jerusalem prompted the enthusiasm of replacement theology that may have been based upon the actual Esus of Edessa . The gospels are chalked full of symbols that may be representing actual historical elements. For example the crown of thorns. That was in fact the design of the crown of a King of Edessa. And the falsehood of the slaughter of the innocents based upon stories of Herod's murderous behavior towards his own family members. Were these distortions deliberate or simply a matter of what is referred to as broken telephone? Unreliable accounts passed on to foreign writers. However if it was deliberate distortion of facts this begs the question. Why? Secrecy , Artistry, or fear of persecution ? Jesus seems in so many ways to be some sort of foreign recreation or paint over of actual Jewish history. And in an atmosphere of severe persecution traitor Jews who went on to survive were probably more than willing to invent a new belief system that was pointing out to non Jews that they were not of the Jews that were declared enemies by Rome. Ohhhhh nooooo. Not us. lol. Will we ever get to the bottom of this slight of hand shape shifting nonsense?

What we often overlook is that the whole eastern mediterrean had been conquered by Alexander the Great and that for 300 years they had been hellenized. So we have a lot of people in Palestine that were polytheist as well as their temples, philosophy. So we had a smaller and smaller group of people who were traditional jews.

    • @frankandstern8803

@@TorianTammasAbsolutely Agree. I have pressed this overlooked point for years. Then I went on to find fragments contained in Alexandria History that seem like a salad of components found in the Gospels. Like Robert Eisenman I would have to agree that these writings were not created in Judea or Israel at all but on distant shores of intellectual safety. To place it in proper perspective although many Jews were Hellenized from the onset of Seleucid reign and percolated in that fashion across the Eastern portion of the Empire, Alexandria and Jerusalem still represented two different poles of a political spectrum among the Jewish people. Today is no different in some regards. Secular and Religious . But there are outside examples of the same dynamic that can be observed too. A comparitive would be that of Munich vrs Berlin at the turn of the last century. There was a tremendous difference according to Germans of that period as well as their grandchildren today. One fragmenting as it rushed towards modernization tinted with Bolshevism and sexual deviance, while Munich was more conservative and was holding firm to traditional identity and National pride. This vibe apparently can according to some ,including Austrians, be felt today although not as openly expressed in mixed company. An important point is although many Jews were attracted to the various literary material, cultures and belief systems, each of the three major Empires that they dwelled under transmitted, the very presence of a Jerusalem with a Temple complex and Priesthood would remain a symbol of adherence to Jewish Law rather than assimilation that like it or not, led to disintegration and resentments on both sides of the coin. I still wonder if people today fully realize or question the disastrous consequences predecessors of Philo may have had on secular Jewish thought that were later seeking spirituality without Law and OUTSIDE of the fold. I see this as the seeds of replacement theology and later conflicts held in place with lies and the dependence upon a power base of sentiment and/or emotions with no real education concerning the Judaism either they or their father's fathers were or had lost sight of. In the conflicts today I have witnessed ignorance on both sides of the arguments. It gets ridiculous.

I was curious, I'd like to ask him why Paul talks about the man of sin, what does he think about that little prophecy? and I had another good question for him that slips my mind, I'll have to get back on that. But this is fantastic stuff and it still fits the IO cause it's all political and directed to Israel and their future. I love your shows and Thank You Christopher! Derek...Luther, where-ever you be get that book out.

His work later in life (like Sacred Mushroom ...) was delusional, but genius delusional. His later work got him such discredit that many ignore his brilliant and first rate scroll research. That is the real tragedy.

Actually Paul and jospehus had a different intention why they befriend Rome. Paul was a Herodian who wanted to maintain Roman and Herodian power over the Jews. Paul want to pretend a Nazarene to destroy their Messianic teaching. Whereas Jospehus was anti Roman and anti Herodian by hearth but he want to pretend as pro Roman so that he can able to write books that unlock the Nazarene/Zealot interpretation of the prophecies of Daniel predicting what year the Romans will be removed from Judea and Syria.

10:35 Lawson may find what Solomon Zeitlin had to say about the Dead Sea Scrolls back in the day during the hype quite interesting. Research that and you will find out why they kept him on the outside . Paleography you say? Zeitland suggested the truth was much more disturbing concerning dating of the writing. He believed it was Medieval at best. I s##t you not. There is something fishy about the stories of the find. It cant really be on the level. Especially concerning cave four. For all we know , once it was clear there were buyers ready to pay for old manuscripts the cave was stock piled for a so called discovery. We will never know the whole truth Im afraid. I think there is a possibility some really shady rock lizards were being cooperated with in obtaining the scrolls. As for Zeitlin, An interview with the good Professor would have been interesting to us today but alas he has passed away. I was lucky enough to find 1st editions of his 3 volume set ' The Rise And Fall of the Judaean State about 17 yrs ago in a used book store .

Baaaah , there was no Nazareth. I have a feeling the word Nazareth was more derived from Netzer as in the end of the name of the king of Babylon in 586 B.C. I suspect it has some sort of reference to something Chaldean in origin. A mixed lineage considering itself fully Jewish like converted Idumeans . The gospels sound like an exaggeration of an enthusiastic Bal Chuvah who ran into a brick wall . One who found out about his mothers disgrace later on in life and did a bit of a kamakazi act towards 3 authorities. He thought he would go to Jerusalem and tell them how it is. Naive perhaps. Ahhhhh who knows? Whatever we search or whatever we find repentance is still a good thing. What we do may still matter.

Nebuchad NEZZER . Nezzer ET . It's about as real as the James Osuary. People want it to be real and presto MY TV TELLS ME IT IS SO. Hey buddy did you hear they found Atlantas too? Just ribbing. @@a.t.6322 They found one house in the area - hardly a village. There is no attestation for Nazareth in any kind of historical record: NO document, letter, pottery shard, coin, legal record, foreign reference, map, inscription, stele, tomb, sales receipt, seal or ossuary. It matters not anyway. The name "Nazorene" ("Nazoraios" in the Greek of Acts 3:6; 4:10; 6:14, etc.) came from the Hebrew sectarian name "nazorim ha brit" ("Keepers/Guardians of the Covenant"). The collective plural was "nazorim" (pronounced, "Nazoreem") is the source of the sectarian name Nazorene. ALL sectarian names had a meaning. NO sectarian name related to any location or place. Nazorene was a sectarian name, not a place name. THE SECT NAME, NAZORENE, HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NAZARETH. The Nazarene sect opposed Rome. The New Testament went to great pains to disassociate Jesus with this historical connection. The New Testament writers used the sound-alike name of this village (which did exist when the New Testament was written later) as their excuse for why Jesus was called the Nazarene. Non-Hebrew speaking readers of the New Testament bought into this misrepresentation. In this way, Jesus' connections to the revolt were covered up.

Then through documentary, they Dumped it upon the world ,even through Television at the time, and now it triggers comments of confidence like yours concerning the topic. Im aware of WHAT THEY SAY. Thats the point. I didn't buy it. Its fishy. Like the James bone box that suddenly popped up after the works of Robert Eisenman on James his the scholastic discourse on the topic. Well, I don't buy it. Never did, despite their sincerity. Most of the names, (though not all) of the titles and even characters in the New Testament are warped transliterations into Greek forms. People are so willing to just place their faith in ideas, theories and authoritative positions well funded from people who with earned degrees under their various titles of scientific description, including that of ' Archeologist.' It is sooooo bad these days among a dumbed down generation that its worse than blind faith in the other direction of religion. People need to stop that stuff and instead of having thoughts and positions dictated to them in their inferiority complex concerning topics, start questioning, investigating and THINKING A BIT FOR THEMSELVES IF YOU CAN GET THEM OFF THEIR FKN PHONES.

Virgin birth means born in virgo

  • @luciouspyro9524

The Bible recounts that Herod learned of the Messiah’s birth from astronomers who had seen the Star of Bethlehem. He tried to kill the child, so, obviously, the Bible records that Herod was alive at Jesus’ birth. Remember that this mattered to ASTRONOMER Kepler, because historians of his time apparently inferred from Josephus’ history that Herod died in 4 BC . Necessarily, Kepler assumed Christ was born before that date, perhaps 5 BC or earlier. So, those are the years for which he scanned the skies for the Star. Even with the power of his newly discovered laws of planetary motion, he didn’t find the phenomena we will examine here. He searched the skies of the wrong years. There is no astral phenomena as this conjunction your guest is referring to been seen AS A STAR with a naked eye from Judea!!!!
But modern scholarship has deepened our understanding of Josephus’ manuscripts. A recent study was made of the earliest manuscripts of Josephus’ writings held by the British Library in London, and the American Library of Congress. It revealed a surprise that allows us to target our mathematical telescopes better than could Kepler. It turns out that a copying error was a primary cause of the confusion about the date of Herod’s death. A printer typesetting the manuscript of Josephus’ Antiquities messed up in the year 1544. Every single Josephus manuscript in these libraries dating from before 1544 supports the inference that Herod passed in 1 BC!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Strong recent scholarship confirms that date . Knowing this, and since Herod died shortly after Christ’s birth, our investigation turns to the skies of 3 and 2 BC. At 2 BC you have this astral phenom of a star seen by a naked eye from Judea and the explanation of John apocalyptic vision , Jupiter-Regulus . a portion of the Book of Revelation provides clear and compelling guidance for our astronomical investigation. The apostle John wrote the book as an old man while in exile on the island of Patmos. Perhaps the austerity of this exile or a lack of companionship left him time to ponder the night sky. Whatever the reason, Revelation is full of star imagery. In Revelation, Chapter 12, John describes a life and death drama played out in the sky: the birth of a king.
Revelation 12:1 A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. 4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron sceptre…
A woman in labor, a dragon bent on infanticide and a ruler of the nations. We have already seen this ruler in the Book of Genesis, above. This would be the Messiah, in his role as King of Kings. If that interpretation is correct, then according to the gospel story the woman would be Mary, the mother of Jesus. The dragon which waits to kill the child at birth would be Herod, who did that very thing. John says the woman he saw was clothed in the Sun. She had the moon at her feet. What can he be describing? When we continue our study of the sky of September of 3 BC, the mystery of John’s vision is unlocked: he is describing more of the starry dance which began with the Jewish New Year.
As Jupiter was beginning the coronation of Regulus, another startling symbol rose in the sky. The constellation which rises in the east behind Leo is Virgo, The Virgin. When Jupiter and Regulus were first meeting, she rose clothed in the Sun. And as John said, the moon was at her feet. It was a new moon, symbolically birthed at the feet of The Virgin.

Much of this is very informative. However, he does get a few things wrong. The Essenes & early Christians had much in common, but the Qumran sect was more warlike/militant/zealots than most Essenes. His theory about Jesus parentage is idiosyncratic and has little support.

I agree, parentage is probably the least important aspect of the argument though. We know the paternal line is Judah of Galilee, his two sons Jacob and Judah Thaddeus called Theudas by Josephus. And then Judah’s son Simon bar Giora.
