How is he a fencesitter when he literally said he would pay it back for his parents? Do people expect him to visit Emily’s family home and do a Dr. Phil stream?
Big rt
These streamers dont understsnd theyre NOOOOT in a normal position like paying back 180k is a fraction of ehat she has...
im assuming ppl didn't watch the clip the whole way through
@@psycholol4855She doesn't want to. It's that simple
Tbh the main issue was just her attitude towards it. “They stopped asking about it, so I assumed it was good” “I gave them 10k and was over it” “I don’t wanna pay it back”. It just sounds really bad especially if you’re someone who’s in a really good financial position saying it. A lot of people DREAM of paying their parents back. We don’t really need to know her and her parents personally to feel a type of way about what was said.
Fanfan inadvertently making it worse and now so many more people are going to talk about it. Lmaooo
maybe, maybe not. IMO, it's a whole lot of nothing burger. Ppl that are hating would never watch/support her anyways. Ppl that have supported i doubt this will move the needle much. And she will prob pay it back even if her parents dont care if she does or not. Jason said it best at the end, she should pay it back but if she doesn't, it won't change his opinion about her.
@@Asdfasdf-k8v seems dumb cuz her parents also pay 30k a year for private school she went to ..why just college they want back
@@Asdfasdf-k8v It does change people's opinions, because in between the extreme haters and die-hard supporters, there's the casual watchers that only know Extra Emily at face value for what she puts out there, and this bitterness between herself and her parents over who forced who to go to an expensive college and who needs who to bear the bill is an arguably negative (but genuine) facet to her human labrador retreiver act on stream. She's a multimillionaire that's holding $170k back from her family on personal principle.
In some ways it's like the internet finding out that Marques Brownlee enjoys speeding on public roads. And that he does it quite often. Legality aside, knowing this makes him 'more real' than the squeaky clean persona that he put out there, and it changes how people see him overall, for better or for worse.
@@wobblegong I’ve watched enough of her streams w/ her parents to not sense the “bitterness” that you speak of in the one clip that is going viral. She’s only been w/ OTK for 2 years (just started streaming due covid) so I’d be surprised if she’s a multi millionaire. For the record, I do think she should pay them back but just like jason said, I could care less if she does or not. I watch for the content & entertainment, nothing else.
@Asdfasdf-k8v Her mom told her to her face on stream that her parents sacrificed a lot to pay her $170k tuition back in the day, and that she should pay back her tuition because she makes so much more money now and Emily said 'No, I don't want to'. Emily even explained it out to Nick. Even though she makes more than enough to pay them back, she won't, because of 'the principle'. There's obviously sourness over her parents making her go to college and discouraging her from streaming and now that she's making lots of money streaming she doesn't want to pay back the college degree that she never used.
Even if you personally think this changes nothing about her, for a casual viewer that only knows her as a goofy social wrecking ball, this type of backstory does change the perception of her as well as what's going on in her family, despite all the 'haha laugh together for the camera' moments with her parents.
idk how to feel about this tbh. i would never ask my kid to pay me back for their education. that’s like asking them to pay you back for feeding and housing them. most people in their 20s and 30s aren’t better off than their parents… but in this case she’s a millionaire and just “doesn’t want to” vs not being able to bc she isn’t financially secure enough
I mean yeah as a parent you shouldn’t ask but as the child, if you parents paid for everything, you should at least feel obligated to pay something back, because they went above and beyond in that case, because they aren’t legally obligated to pay for you but they still did.
@@nellyc3669 the issue with this and the clips is there is so much context missing from it all with context its just normal family issues. her family pressured her into doing insane work in high school and then pressured her to go to a big school. she started streaming while at college her parents hated that she was streaming and wanted her to stop. she graduated got a normal job and kept streaming. her parents still hated she was streaming. she kept her job even as she was gaining viewers part time streaming.
she got fired from her job and went full time streaming. it was at this point her parents started asking for money back. then she exploded on twitch and started making a lot of money but her parents still to this day dont like that she is streaming and would rather her go back to school for her masters.
so with all this context she just doesnt want to call her parents bad people on stream but its not black and white. so in her minds her parents want to benefit off her stream but they hate that she is streaming.
You're not in her shoes or grew up like she did. Everyone is just on the outside looking in.
multi-millionaires should
It depends a lot on the family dynamics, in her case it seems that there is more information behind that we do not know because when she has mentioned the subject in the past, she has said that she did not want to study university and implied that it was by her parents' choice. She also mention pressure and stress.
He's turning into tarik, GG's
wait why
yea cuz he should go to their house and do a whole q&a
What’s this mean? What did Tarik do? I don’t watch Tarik at all cause Valo but just curious.
This has been an incredibly weird controversy. It reads like people think her parents are actually about to go broke, they’re not. I have no idea what Emily would do in that situation, as I don’t know her. However; I don’t think for a second she’d let them suffer.
@@NotJayMaybeJ You don't know the level many Asian parents will go to get their kids an education. Remember, she grew up in the middle of no where Nebraska. Jobs of that level for the parents to afford an additional $40k/yr aren't common. Additionally, if your parents had 3 mortgages on the house to pay for your college, you think they would tell you? It's the absolute ignorance of Emily of anything in the situation that's so dumb. Parents bring up the money and their dissatisfaction with her streaming every time she goes home. Her parents get Emily to sign a repayment agreement with payment schedule. It's not a joke and it's only the most foolish and least accountable would think that. In turn Emily turns their house, private life and 'jokes' into content. Then, of course, says she doesn't respect her parents enough to follow through on her agreement. Thinks buying them a few dinners and paying for an annual vacation is good enough, never realizing it'll take decades to pay back $170k that way...
Even in her (pending) payment she still doesn't get it. Still thinks it's just some family joke because she never got punished for it. She doesn't get it is the passive aggressive way to remind you of her responsibilities and it's ALWAYS on the surface hence why it's always brought up. This is just an endless line of disrespect for her parents even now with the peer pressure getting to her.
Emily is ungrateful & a 30 year old who talks like an anime character, shes a grown woman & needs to pay her back
@@NotJayMaybeJ You have no idea how much any parent sacrificed to get their kids into college. You need to remember Emily grew up in the middle of no where Nebraska. The ability for a job to support an extra $40k/yr out there is rare. If they got a second mortgage on their home to put her though college... No one, including Emily, would know the level of stress and sacrifice done. She's far too ignorant to understand what her parents do as (I believe) a sheltered only child.
You two need to go outside and meet real people. You’re parasocial as shit and you both need some mental help if you’re this angry over hypothetical’s. Like, genuinely. I hope when you argue with a wall about it you, you realize you’re talking to yourself.
"It reads like people think her parents are actually about to go broke, they’re not" literally her mom say they almost broke because her decision to the "expensive collage"
Even though she didnt use her degree, if I was in her position, a position in which paying 170k is not that big of a problem, the first thing I would've done is tried to pay them back. Just to show that I'm grateful and that I appreciate the lenghts they went to.
Do you know her personally and her family dynamics? Or have you at least watched all her streams involving her family?
@@larrytheloner7964 are you lacking in basic reading comprehension? I said "If I was in her position".
@@michealhyperion3023 ..but you don't know her and her family relationship..
@@michealhyperion3023 if you are "in her position", you'd have to know what her family dynamics are
@@larrytheloner7964 If you seen her clips then you would know shes kool with her family, there's no bad blood between them. Shes obviously greedy and selfish as hell.
This is a case of Asian parents.
I really hate the logic of "You don't know this person so shut up" When they're the one who made the information public, framed it badly and had a bad take all at the same time. If you didn't want people to be mean, don't share the personal details of your life with the fucking Internet. Its like spitting out the window and the population of the world in standing under it. She's doing it for attention, getting attention. There's nothing to defend.
I mean people could mine their business the logic is everyone hates streamers but all up their butt at the same time. It’s weird this spark this much drama. I watched the clip and went about my day and forgot about it. This must be a westerner thing
@@toukie2705 Its just the difference of being very public about the intimate details of your life instead of keeping things private. When you share so easily, you invite just about everyone to care or have an opinion. The Internet has the unique phenomena of making people feel less inhibited to filter themselves so they might be needlessly more harsh in sentiment.
Its not really something that is unique to the west, its just something that is unique to the Internet.
Idk how it is in america, but in India, parents never ask for money back from their kids. That is because the kid is not in any way indebted to their parents, the parents would rather feel disrespected if a kid tried to pay off for everything they’ve done for him.
I don’t think parents raise kids considering money at all. If they’re paying for your shit today, you’ll just be doing the same for them tomorrow. Instead of paying everything back and saying goodbye.
It should be similar for all asians I’m guessing
They instead want us to adhere to other expectations (career, marriage, societal, caregiving) at the cost of individual freedom often times. There are upsides and downsides to both cultures. Perfect/selfless parenting, or even love for that matter, does not exist. Maybe its a survival necessity or we're conditioned to such dynamics and need to evolve.
"It should be similar for all asians I’m guessing" y do indians always try associating themselves with east asains 😂😂😂😂 u guys have way diff cultures and also look way diff, plz stop
"It should be similar for all asians I’m guessing" y do indians always try associating themselves with east asains, they have way diff cultures and look way diff, plz stop 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah no, I don't think you understand what your parents expect from you. They'll never say "pay me back, help me etc.", but they expect you to. I have exactly the same parents: my father never asks me to help him build something or do him a favor, but I know very well that if I do he'll be happy, as if he expected me to. It's a kind of education test: "Will my child help me even if I don't ask for it? If yes, that means I've raised him well and can be proud of him”. It's exactly the same for all Asian families.
@@7azeFPS You're really daft then or only think it's about college if you think that. EVERY parent raises their kids with some expectation when the parent gets old, the kids will help take care of them. Additionally the really dumb thing about the whole situation is, she's paying it to the bank of mom and dad. She will inherit it later or they will catch her with it when/if she gets cancelled. Either way it's the parents taking care of her since she surrounds herself with people who don't make good financial decisions.
Thanks for letting me know, I won't be fn with her anymore
Ppl fall for bait so easily man it’s ExtraEmily
I didn’t know how to feel until I heard $170k. And her reason is “I don’t want to”. Yikes, at least say u wanna be set for life or sum
I mean, she's literally a millionaire. She thinks she's not obligated to pay her parents back, i mean sure. But you're a millionaire though.
So first this "contract" she signed wasn't actually a real contract, it was written on some notebook paper so she thought it was a joke, what it said was if she chooses to become a streamer she has to pay them back but if she goes into finance and actually uses her degree she doesn't have to pay them back.
I'm sure Emily is a little resentful of her parents though, because they really didnt want her to become a streamer. She's much happier streaming and making more money, but its not a convential career so her parents weren't to pleased about it. I'm sure part of it's because they are not sure how sustainable/stable it is comapred to just a regular job.
I did notice that Emily was fishing for compliments when she was streaming with her dad once, I think she wants her parents to be proud of what she's acheived but they either don't know how to express it or they still very much don't like her being a streamer.
For people that think I don't know what I'm talking about, I watched a 4 min video of Emily and her dad talking about the topic and read the course description of a Psych 101 class, so I'm pretty much an expert on both ExtraEmily and the human psyche.
Her parents aren't mad at her for being a streamer. They're upset because they spent 170k so that Emily could go to her favorite college, only for her to flush her degree down the toilet and as a result her parents are in massive debt right now. If Emily had skipped college and just got an entry level job, then they wouldn't care at all if she wanted to become a streamer because there would be no debt in that scenario.
Where did you hear her parents are in massive debt? Why would she take her parents on vacation instead of helping them pay off the debt? That makes no sense. Most of the money Emily makes she invests, if her parents are actually struggling financially, why on earth wouldn't she help them out?
She said on other clips that they stoped bothering her about it, and it stayed for months, meaning she knows they are serious about it.
@@Brandon-vj6zz how she wasted her degree? she is making more money than if she was working in wall street. this is a case of Asian parents.
@betty4774 because that degree was fucking pointless Are you that dumb to not understand. Shes fucking rich, 150k is nothing to her.
We all know her bubbly side is a facade for streams now.
FanFans statement is hypocritical. Just like the outside viewers fan fan also doesn’t really personally know how ExtraEms parents REALLY feel about that topic. I could put money on it fanfan never sat down, heart to heart and had a conversation with Emily’s parents on how they feel about Emily not paying them back. Just my opinion though 🤷🏽♂️
I just find it funny how the same people that hate streamers or what they do be in comment sections or on Twitter interacting with shit about them. I really think like 80% of those people are just hate watchers 😅y'all care so much about these streamer lives and I bet you her parents honestly don't care if she pays them back fully or not.
Drama andy's. That's how internet is nowadays especially on Twitter 😂
I bet they do but won’t be mad if she doesn’t, just passive aggressive.
Get off your knees
i thought it was alright then she said it was 170k
She just doesnt seem very close to her parents at all, very standoffish, i remember she said once before that she didnt care about visiting them for holidays etc
Birds of a feather flock together
In this new episode of "Streamers: the fear of accountability"
“I pay for other things instead..” bro just pay them back bro
She should pay for BOTH. The money owed, AND give them other things.
Give them the World, any one would dream of doing that towards their parents
Do you know her personally and her family relationship? Or have you at least watched all her streams involving her family?
It's her choice.
Just like it was her choice to give her parents crippling debt and then abandon them when they needed her the most.
@@Brandon-vj6zz how do you know this? Did they actually say this?
Dudes annoying
To be fair.... Emily isn't paying her parents' retirement. 😂 IDC because it's not my life, but it's a silly defense to use
her parents are already rich af..her mum clearly joking
Emily is very irresponsible with money, but I guess that's what happens when you're a trust-fund baby.
Jason is right, she Should pay it back, especially if she can afford it.
lmao Emily is a single child, look at the house she grew up in, its a nice house and her family is well off and had more than enough money to pay for her tuition. Everything they own is Emily's anyways. Emily's situation is just misunderstood and blown out of proportion the same way people were calling Jason's aunt bad when she was genuinely sad Jason left to work on his streaming career and he wasn't there to spend time with her and others like he used to.
You are saying this but her mother QUITE LITERALLY said that she needs the money back and paying for tuition caused her to go broke.
So you some random online is saying you know more about her mother’s finances than her own mother
bruh are u dumb? u dont make any sense gang
@@cooldes4593 lmao her mom said that on stream and it was clearly a humor but at the same time shes expressing that shes unhappy with her daughter being a streamer instead of having a regular/normal career. Asian parents can't brag about their children being a streamer when their friends are probably bragging about their kids being lawyers, doctors, SWE and etc. When her mom says shes going broke, she doesn't mean it literally lol they still have a big house and other assets. Once again, you guys are blowing it out of proportion. Like I said, Emily is a single child and shes unmarried so basically everything she owns is theirs and everything they own is hers.
@ aahh my bad, i did not realize you could read minds
@@cooldes4593 ahh my bad, i didn't realize we should take every thing that happens on streams at face value
whats so special about the same members and friends defending each other? none of this twitter/x stuff matters
Eh tuition is not the same as a loan. Tuition is you paying for your kid to have a better life. Its not a fucking loan. That's crazy.
What if they took a loan to pay the tuition?
@@amirulhakim7196then the loan would've been under the name of the person going to college, not the parents. If the parents are taking out a loan themselves, then they're not expecting to be paid back for it.

Emily was the one who wanted to go an Ivy League school, her parents didn't want her to go there because it was way too expensive. She was the one who begged them to pay for her tuition so she could attend that university. The real reason why her parents are upset is because they wasted so money (almost going broke) so that Emily could have a future, but she decided to flush her degree down the toilet instead. If she had just skipped uni and became a streamer, then they wouldn't care.
Right. If she wanted a loan, she would have gotten a loan
Nobody should be defending Emily. After she brought it up she wanted to end stream, because she knew how bad it sounded. Emily knows shes in the wrong
she said the same joke on stream for months
That’s crazy you know the full dynamics of her and her parents?
That's literally how her relationship is with her parents, it's not serious. But as usual strangers online knows more abouth their relationship right 😂
Why are y’all so weird?
Oh look, it's the thought police trying to tell people how to feel about something.
ungrateful ass people tbh. "instead of giving them a big sum of money"... DID YOU NOT GET A BIG SUM OF MONEY FROM THEM? entitled ass streamers. joke or not. why would you not want to pay back your parents and more??? these are not good people.

Nah, she pretty clearly wants the money. I’m going to have to disagree with FanFan on this one lol.
In case anyone don't know, Fanfan did not speak to one of her parents until "he left this world" unfortunately.
the cheater?
@betty4774 Yes. The cheating is between her mother and her father. She clearly regrets what she did with her father and had trauma for this. She should have tried to keep relationship with both. But oh well life continues. Need to advance
oh shut the fuck up u don’t know anything ab the relationship between her and her family. ur so weird
She’s so cooked, get your parents to pay for an expensive degree just to get passed around in college and then not paying them out of spite just because they asked for the money, modern women 101 yall. If the parents were that bad, she wouldn’t brought them to the stream but she did so clearly they have somewhat a good relationships still. Imagine being a millionaire and being this petty to your own parent and we have this fence sitter Jason, nobody like a fencesitter and a fake person Jason, have a stance or something for once
Fighting words here
It’s what I always say, women think with feelings and not logic. I dealt with my gf enough to realize women really are dumb. extraEmily needs to pay her parents back, literally I can tell just from this clip her parents looked sad as hell and feels like they have been scammed, and it’s almost a quarter million of dollars which it seems they aren’t getting back. Or any big checks from emily even though she’s a millionaire. She should have work to retire her parents if they aren’t already.
aint no way ur serious... youve gotta be rage baiting
So being equal is a fence sitter. Too much bias in the world and u helping it the fact he seeing both sides is good.
did you not watch the full video? Jason literally said he would pay it back to his parents
I genuinly dont get how the context of her family could save her from this ignorant behavior. Genuinly
Devil's advocate but if the parents didn't say anything about paying it back at the time they were pressuring her to go to the best school and just have a hand out now because she's famous it's a little weird.
Pay attention. They wanted her to go to a good school, Emily chose Columbia. They paid but it lead to them going almost broke. She at the time signed a deal to pay tnem back 14k a year to pay back the 170k. She paid 10 then stopped.
Despite she makes 170 after 2 or 3 sponsored videos/streams she could've been paid it shes just a dick.
Her true character shown. She thought everyone would find it funny & cute we didn't. So she cried to manipulate people especially mods & simps to defend her which they did including nick deleting shit & fanfan the fool trying to do the same.
