Thank you for the wonderful ideas. We unfortunately had to put Mom in a home. I took some of her favorite flowers and a vase. She sat and arranged them all the while telling me about the various parties she prepared centerpieces for over the years. Your suggestion made for a wonderful productive visit. Also, dominoes!! I had forgotten family loved playing those during family outings. As soon as I pulled those out her eyes brightened up and she said “how much we playing for?” LOL Amazing!! THANK YOU so much!
When I visit my mother in her care home, I bring a little project to do. Watercolor paints and canvas. Pictures to color. Items to make a holiday collage wall hanging. Blank greeting cards to decorate. Etc. We usually have focused time together and she doesn't spend our time together complaining about everything at the care home.
Thanks Teepa! You just gave me a few more ideas to use w/ my clients. They enjoy the 25 piece jigsaw puzzles for sure, and playing a simple game together, but I really like those ones of making simple flower bouquets and doing a journal of the past.
I bought different coloured tissue paper and we’ve made flower bouquets, I’ve also bought a memory chess game. It’s made of wood with different coloured pegs and a dice. We have to choose the right peg to match the dice. I use different size and coloured bears with matching cups, where they put the right colour in the right cup. I also have many senior games on my iPad that we play, they totally love those. I am a Personal Support Worker for my local Alzheimers Society and do in home care. It makes the time go by faster with lots of laughing. Thank you Teepa, you are my mentor 👍
Thank you so much for the ideas! I just started as an activities aide in a memory care unit and I'm trying to come up with ideas and this just gave me so many!
I’ve bought six, 16 piece puzzle sets. We can finish one in a half hour then put it away. My lady loves them and feels like we accomplished something and she feels the surface. She was an artist but not interested in coloring or drawing.

Well done Teepa. Your videos are very informative and by far, much better than any other training care students receive. Thank you very much.

Where can that ball with the hula hoop be found? :O
Fabulous
What happens when the group you're trying to engage just wants to put everything in their mouth?? I'm having the hardest time with my unit...
Do things that include reading a good short book or music, which includes active instructions.
I'm telling my friend about Teepa. She claims she was on a soap opera and knew who she was. Is that true just curious. Doesn't to be accurate
All of this is wonderful but my Mom is legally blind, extremely hard of hearing (she keeps losing her hearing aids) and has Alzheimers.
