I remember the first time I heard this song, I was just struggling with life and everything was hitting me... And this unexpectedly came on, I'm already a fan of Celine so I turned it up and listened. Boy oh boy, that was the best drive home. I cried so hard and I knew that Jesus had heard me. There's something about when she hits that last note, that it's like her voice reaches the heavens. I can't explain it, but it touches my soul. Merry Christmas everyone, we will make it through the rest of this year together.

I generally feel nothing on earth really expresses well the amazing grace and significance of the Lord Jesus coming to earth when He came as a baby, but surely this must come as close as possible.

Driving home one dark night after a long hard day, Christmas music on the radio but I wasn't really paying attention, mind preoccupied with trivial concerns. Then this song came on.
Oh my goodness. All the day's hassles and distractions dissolved from mind, replaced by this pure clear voice that filled and overspilled my heart.
Had to pull off the road, because I couldn't see through the tears. There was no traffic, no light, just a sliver of moon above, and I rolled down the window and breathed the cold night air as the song ended. And it was a holy night. Amen.

The angel voices were commanding the shepards to fall on their knees and prostrate themselves before the newborn baby who was born so they may live, that they were in the prescence of their lord and savior, the son of Man. It is just the most beautiful attestation of who and what this baby was born for. The beauty and simplicity is so powerful. The arrangement, diction, timing of every note and the emotion is something I have not heard anywhere else and I have listened to over 20 versions. Celine bodied this song and captured its full essence.

There are many excellent renditions of this classic hymn, but this is the best hands down. Her faith shines through and elevates it to something far more spiritual than a mere song.
I don't like most of Ms. Dion's material very much, but she truly is a once in a generation vocalist. Power, control, feeling, phrasing, articulation, intonation......she is as good a vocalist as anyone can be.

Celine has that blessing of singing to the Beloved René and to Jesus at the same time, and to stay living while doing it. Some Rock'n'Rollers tried that, and they died. It's an interesting exercise to count how many artist up to ten died turning Christian passion into secular songs, because at some point, it becomes apparent who each song-writer / singer is focusing on when singing and the list adds up quickly. Sad.
