Seeing a lot of “WHAT THE???” in the comments. I’m a chef and thought I could add some insight: The Monte Cristo is a variant of a French “grilled ham and cheese”. People are freaking out about about the ingredients, so some framing would be helpful: In cooking, these are complimentary flavors (much like complimentary colors in art). Sweet and savory are two flavor profiles that go together very well. In a Monte Cristo, you essentially have a French toast for bread, ham for saltiness, cheese for the savory (Swiss is normally used, but sharp cheddar is a great choice), and something sweet (most common is maple syrup, but jams work very well too). Often this sandwich is served with powdered sugar. The way the Monte Cristo is presented in the United States is as a breakfast food...like a stuffed French toast. These flavors work perfectly together, there’s nothing “shocking” about the taste, and it’s a great Sunday breakfast. The way the video presented the sandwich is more in the traditional “bar food” way...a portable sandwich you can eat with your hands instead of a knife and fork (and was very well done btw!). More examples of this type of flavor pallet: cheese and grapes, salt and pepper on fresh apples, lingonberry jam with meatballs, applesauce and pork chops, cheddar and baked apples...
That is all COMPLETELY TRUE. DOES NOT detract from the fact that the swine had the audacity to cut the crusts off! If you’re too much of a spoilt bitch to eat the crusts on a sandwich you don’t fucking deserve a sandwich.

Never tried strawberry jam in my Monte Cristos... And I am not sure I wanna risk ruining a perfectly good viable Monte Cristo for the sake of experimentation. It should work with American-style ham, tho. Less so with dry-cured hams like prosciutto or jamon. Also, it feels a bit unnecessary to cover the bread in bread crumbs.
I’ve only tried the sandwich with one layer of bread, jam, cheese, and ham (didn’t add the breading or extra layers though). It was really good and 10/10 would recommend
I had a variation of it from a Irish pub using Irish cheddar, black Forrest ham, blackberry preserves, and battered/fried with powdered sugar on top. Oooh man that was sooo good
I was very sad the video started by wasting all the crust of the bread slices ... And then so happy at the end to see that they were NOT wasted ! :D It's the best feeling when you thought you were disappointed but you end up satisfied :D
In Thanksgiving dinners you guys add sweet and savory to your dish. Like turkey slices with cherry jam of Ham with cherry and ham slices. Otherwise is too salty.
Never thought of jam as a sweetener in that way. Sure we all had syrup glazing on meat at one point in our lives (you should do this immediately of you haven't) but jam gives me whole new ideas. I will recreate this
Paik Jon Won has a similar recipe on RUclips but yours is so much more professionally made. Your recipe is also better coz by adding bread crumbs to the bread I believe it will add additional crispy texture to the sandwich. And lastly, you don't overload the pan with oil unlike Paik's; his sandwich was swimming in a pool of oil! Thanks for sharing recipe.

Ruthless- Ryu it sounds it but it’s soo good , toast bread first, spread the jam, then grate cheese on top, back under grill to melt the cheese Mmmmmmm
Monte Cristo is a variation of the original French sandwich named Croque Monsieur. Your variation of the American sandwich Monte Cristo needs to be given another name. Thanks for sharing.
Ham and cheese, heck yeah! Jam? I'm actually interested in that combo...hmmm...looks good together. Will try it next time I can. Update: Tried it out. Not bad. Added a nice flavor for my taste.

@@AndreasTabuMuntu I meant a jam with Stevia maybe 😅 just in case they don't want too many calories, but this recipe the way is it, it perfect :3
The audio in this video is impeccable. Also, I've put jelly on my breakfast sandwiches since I was a child. It's very common to pair sweet with salty.
Your kitchen looks so pure
Gracias por los subtítulos en español 💖💖💖 adoro este canal
Finding out that you’re not the only one that puts cheese and jam together on bread makes you so happy *wipes tear *
Oh looks soooo Good😍😍😋
One more good thing to see is that you didn't waste the bread corners, you fried those too👍👍
okay this literally tastes so good. jam, cheese, and ham go well together. fight me
It is pretty much the pizza I have had since I was a child
I was very sad the video started by wasting all the crust of the bread slices ... And then so happy at the end to see that they were NOT wasted ! :D It's the best feeling when you thought you were disappointed but you end up satisfied :D
I bet Gabriel is one of those people that complained about the jam
Gabriel Yea I think your d### needs to grow up to-
In Thanksgiving dinners you guys add sweet and savory to your dish. Like turkey slices with cherry jam of Ham with cherry and ham slices. Otherwise is too salty.
몬테크리스토 하니까 햇님 생각나요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Oh man I make these all the time, except i prefer to use apple chutney instead of strawberry jam
Your videos are so satisfying 🥰🥰🤗
와...햄치즈토스트 정말좋아하는데 이런영상 너무 좋아여!!!캬캬 주말아침은 너로정했다!!!ㅋㅋㅋ너무맛있어보입니다!
ooohhh never thought of strawberry jam on a ham and cheese sandwich...it must be sooo good!
So obsessed with watching how to make monte cristo sandwich videos 😍😍😍
Never thought of jam as a sweetener in that way. Sure we all had syrup glazing on meat at one point in our lives (you should do this immediately of you haven't) but jam gives me whole new ideas. I will recreate this
Eating peach jam and cheddar on French baguette is the best thing ever
Never seen a monte cristo made with jam, only dunked mine! Interesting!
Made this for both me and my son during breakfast and we're both in heaven! Thank you for sharing this recipe! 💜👏🤗
This seems like a really weird combo of fillings, but I'm intrigued enough to try it. Might have to swap the cheese for a proper cheese though.
Wdym by proper cheese?
Use swiss
@@EXOEXISTCREAMSODA I weep for your soul
Gruyere is the CORRECT cheese. Very common in grocery stores
@@tyronebarone Thanks for the tip... Gruyere it is!
good stuff to share.
i made monte cristo's back in 2002 with friends. only difference was i used raspberry jam, with a beer batter and deep fry. So good to be Stuffed
What does the strawberry jam do? Does it help to enhance flavor?
Just curious, it looks really tasty
Bread, Jam, cheese then ham!! Why is this so Rachel's Trifle!!
So a croque-monsieur with no cream nor emmental and with some jam. Looks delicious
"And its pretty appetizing"
Me: *watching this at midnight*
Me: welp, time for a midnight snack, surely no one would mind if the ham and cheese slices went missing in the morning
I’ve been having cheese n jam on toast since I was a child and everyone tells me it’s disgusting lol now it’s cooking art 🤷🏼♂️ I’m doing this 😋
TRULY!!
Nigel Gregory nah fam that’s gross
Ruthless- Ryu it sounds it but it’s soo good , toast bread first, spread the jam, then grate cheese on top, back under grill to melt the cheese Mmmmmmm
Nigel Gregory I’ll try it if you try chocolate spread and ketchup
Monte Cristo is a variation of the original French sandwich named
Croque Monsieur.
Your variation of the American
sandwich Monte Cristo needs to
be given another name.
Thanks for sharing.
So my version would be turkey and ham and Havarti cheese and a raspberry sauce on the side to dip, haven't had one in ages may be time to make some 😋
No that is the correct way, this, I don't know what it is not even remotely a Monte Cristo
@@justinharris3976 its propably because its hard to fetch the right ingredients in korea.
I liked how you didn't throw the crust away
Salivating..looks yummy😋
Thanks for making this! Im trying this recipe with my wife today ;-)
This looks great! I think I’d use fig jam, though- good with the salty flavours :)
Nice one. The kids loved it. Thanks!
Ham and cheese, heck yeah!
Jam?
I'm actually interested in that combo...hmmm...looks good together. Will try it next time I can.
Update: Tried it out. Not bad. Added a nice flavor for my taste.
I would use real cheese , and a jalepeno Strawberry jam , js, but I love this video ♥️
