@@ariesvixen853 long guns are easy to get if you are old enough. Handguns require a special permit and cannot be carried on your person unless you have a conceal carry permit.

If he gifted it to her while alive, they should have handled the transfer legally. Who knows if he had a license. Fact is, NY law was broken, and at least she should be charged and arrested. She admitted having an unlicensed loaded gun during her testimony in court.

Please explain what is meant by an unlicensed gun. Is this a New York thing? A concealed carry is the only registration needed if you want to hide the weapon, but just owning a weapon and open carry in Virginia is lawful. Whatever you have in your home is your business.
Each state has their own laws.
In Ny a handgun license is required to purchase or own a handgun in NY or purchase ammunition for said handgun
