Corn harvest is always so fun to watch. I can't get over each year how they harvest corn that is still so green looking compared to up here where it is completely brown when they take it off in late Oct to mid Nov.
We actually started corn yesterday here in southern Michigan. We planted corn early for our area starting april 12th when normally we dont start corn until may . Our 102 day corn is testing 22 percent moisture at 180 to 200 bushels . We planted alot of 102 day corn this spring . For us it was great to plant early and harvest early even though it is wet because we can dry it faster when its 80 degrees out instead of 35 or 40 degrees out . now we can do tillage and then plant more winter wheat. We normally dont start corn until oct 20th but this year we might be done by then . Our soybeans are about 2 weeks away as well . We have 2000 acres of corn and 5000 acres of soybeans including double crops which aren't that far off as well because they are setting pods already. We are the second farm to start this early and alot of the neighbors are driving by slowly with shook and awe .great video keep up the good work and stay safe !
Wheat planting is the objective here as well corn harvest starts in mid August here. I had to film the Half Century of Progress Show and Farm Progress Show. And get some of those videos out so I am just getting back to the seasonal videos. Wheat seeding will start October 10 after the fly threat is gone. All the wheat acres are double cropped into beans behind the combines.

Hi Jason, LOVE your channel and videos. I grew up in North Central Illinois and loved watching the farmers work around our house. Would you consider doing a comparison video showing the largest combines available from ALL the brands in the US? I would love to see side by side comparison with horsepower, capacity, total price with both heads etc. I hope you will consider this and I'll keep watching. Thanks
I don't know much about anything, especially farming stuff, but it sure seems like they're in some pretty high yield corn there. Those 400 bushel bins seemed to be getting filled up awfully fast considering a 40' corn head harvests 1 acre of corn every 1089 feet. Love these videos though, fascinating.
@@bigtractorpower I love the Case IH Combines and I love those videos that you have where your like going for a ride inside those Case IH Combines so I’m asking… will you get in touch with those farmers that have those huge Case IH Combines and make a very long or reasonably long video of you being in the cab going for a long Case IH Combine ride that’s harvesting corn and specifically corn…?

Where we farm is right at the limit of combining corn, it used to be at the North Dakota/Manitoba border but now it's up to just past the No.1 highway, just in the past 20yrs has corn started to be combined north of that, it's mostly used for silage up here
We have fields that have been corn on corn for almost 15 years here in Hanover MB...or 18 out of 20 years...the yields just keep going up. Our corn was hailed to spaghetti in late June...but that 2 inches of rain kept us growing right thru the drought in July. We have 9 foot corn...
@@tf7274 oh yeah you guys over there are warmer earlier than we are up here towards Hamiota, our silage corn is at 10ft but i know guys down at Glenboro with stuff as tall as the chopper's cab roof
I am not sure. They do it each time so they must have a reason. Best guess to turn around and drive back behind the other combine as the grain cart pulls in.
That is an odd move, since that notch was soon obliterated by the rear combine. It was never used by the cart tractor or anything like that. Maybe it’s just an incredibly visible marker, like “hey, switch lanes and take the lead HERE.” Dunno.
What is this corn going to be used for since you are taking it down to the kernel rather than on the cob to go to a processor. I know a lot of corn is used for making alcohol and many other products. It would help to let us know if the corn is used for retail market or industry.

They no till wheat in after the corn harvest. Then the wheat is cut in June and soybeans are planted directly behind the combines as a second crop. The beans are harvested in October and the field is strip tilled. Corn is planted again the following March.
Just the leaves are. The grain is at 20% and the temps are around 80 degrees. Pretty easy drying conditions. With no frost and the fungicide applied in July the leaves stay green. Less trash build up on the combine this way. They plant winter wheat on the ground so it has to come off for the next crop.
@@bigtractorpower I see you replied to another about winter wheat followed by soybeans after this corn. Sounds like they get three crops off the same ground every two years huh, really working the soil hard.
I will let you in on a secret. The GoPro that was mounted on the combines for this filming session failed to record so I had to use footage of a John Deere S790 opening a field and unloading to insert the sound for the drone view. I was afraid some one like your self with a good ear for machine sound might catch on it was a Deere combine sound rather than an Axial-Flow.
I do not know. Farms in my area typically keep combines 1,2 or three seasons and then trade. They cover wheat, corn and soybeans each year and rack up the hours.
@@bigtractorpower I wouldn’t imagine they’d pay one off if they would just trade it in that fast. So I guess they probably just make constant payments almost like leasing one.
