  • By placing Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove under federal protection in 1864, Abraham Lincoln paved the way for what would later become California's Yosemite National Park. See the tallest waterfall in North America, massive sequoia trees in Mariposa Grove, and endless wildlife throughout the park. From mountainous vistas to valleys of wildflowers, it is clear why this sprawling wilderness has awed and inspired the likes of John Muir and Ansel Adams.

@@fighterdow The "creature" in the last image in the film (at 3:23, before the credits roll) is of an American pika, Ochotona daurica. The "pi" in pika is pronounced the same as the number pi (3.14.159 . . . .) and the "ka" is pronounced as in the last syllable of "America." How are trees involved?

SoberRS Check out Yosemite Valley. There are a lot of trails and they have free shuttle buses there for you to see areas far away from each other. Late May and early June is a nice time to go because it is not hot and the waterfalls are flowing. Also bring lots of food and water because the restaurant there is quite expensive. You can do many other activities like bike riding, water rafting, Rock climbing and horseback riding.

Not to be a deuce but it be nice to limit the foreigners. You can't have a relaxing getaway without having crowds destroy the enjoyment of what's left of the U.S. Treasures.
