When Michael posts you stop what you're doing and like the video. Seriously the best content for beginners out there.
Damn straight!
Thank you 🙏🏻 always appreciate the comments
So much to offer hobbyists at any level. Best boost for out of practice or jaded veterans, too.
This is probably the best video I've seen on how to start, paint and begin playing. Very comprehensive. Michael is the top of his craft. All of his videos are top notch and have really high production value. You guys need to watch and learn from this guy!
Thanks Michael!
This is what I would’ve been thankful for back in 2011 when I was just getting started with the hobby. Nice job
Me too. Ha that’s why I made it, so no one else has to struggle 😂
*Hobby Tip 101: 2 Thin Coats -* Thin down your paints with water or flow improver! Not only will your paint flow better off the brush and provide better coverage, but it will also help not clog up all of those tiny details with thick paint.
great hobby tip
This is handy because I have those exact models! 🎉😄
thats great, now you can get started on them :D I'll have more detailed painting tutorials for them coming soon
Thanks for making an easily intimidating hobby feel accessible. I'm almost finished with my first squad of Dark Angels thanks to you!
thats great. Glad I can help with your hobby :D I recon its gonna be a big year for Dark Angels :P
@@TableTopReadyRUclips I hope so! I'm waiting to get into the game until 10th edition, but it seems like Lion El'Jonson could return with some new models, maybe? My wishlist of regular space marines is long already, though, but here's hoping 🤞
Excellent tutorial Michael! My nephew (12 years old) and I just had a 40K build and paint day, today. He worked on his Space Marines and Dreadnaught/Knight, and I worked on the Command Edition expansion terrain set. We had our first patrol detachment game last weekend and had a blast. Your videos help us out a lot and provide great inspiration to put our best efforts forward at our entry level skills. Thanks!
wow that's so nice of you, making great memories
That’s amazing. I’m hoping my nephew will get into the hobby one day 🤷🏼♂️ who knows. You get to be the cool uncle 😃 that sounds great. I’m glad your both having lots of fun and And creating these great memories. That’s what this hobby is really about. Hanging out and enjoying it together. Make sure to be great examples for others in the hobby 😁 and I’ll keep the videos coming along 💪🏻
Exactly
A bit late to this, but I just want you to know that you do some of the best beginner tutorials for Warhammer out there. You have a real understanding of not only teaching, but that most people aren’t going to be dropping hundreds of £ on this game to collect lots of points, tools and terrain, etc. Awesome stuff.
Thank you and this isn’t too late at all 😁 I know what it’s like to get started and you definitely don’t need to spend tons of money. Not straight away atleast ha 😋
Michael, I’ve run out of superlatives, I can only imagine the work put in to record and edit this mate, seriously impressive as ever, the clarity of explanation is awesome.
Can see myself referring to this on more than one occasion!
This video is the best tutorial for the starter sets in RUclips I have watched even better than the official one.
Your other tutorial helped me paint up the recruit edition to with out problem.
Awsome. I wanted to have a go at teaching people how to play. Not just about painting all the time 😋 I’m glad I’ve helped you with your own hobby. It’s why I love making these videos
@@TableTopReadyRUclips this video cleared up bits in the shooting phase, cover and moral phase for me.
It is literally the best play guide.
Hope to see more like this , being dyslexic I struggle with reading rules so miss out a lot so videos like this really help , thank you great job 👍
I get yah. I understand people learn and take in information very differently. I have ADHD and so having multiple inputs help. That’s why I chose to put text on the screen as well. I hope I’ve been able to help 🖖🏻
THANK YOU SR! im totally new on Warhammer and THIS what i need to start! thank you again!
Don't also forget there is Age of Sigmar, and while it does have different rules it is still liuke 40k but in a fantasy universe. It also has a very good starter set like this one
That’s why I make these videos. I know there is a lack of videos like this out there.
this same set is the one i ordered last night perfect timing, mans a wizard
I more of a warlock 🤔
@@TableTopReadyRUclips dang it i was close
Perfect timing, was just painting some intercessors.
You always help out with your videos😊
I knew 😋 I’m glad my videos help. It’s why I do them
I feel so lucky to be getting back into WH40K around now. 10th edition has been announced and the consensus is that its a great time for new players, starter boxes like this are available and are great value for money, and we have amazing guides and channels like this to learn from.
10th is going to be a game changer. If it delivers what we think it is then I’m super excited. I got plenty of stuff plans for it
Lool
Is this starter set manual and rulebook obsolete because of the new 10th edition? sorry I'm pretty new
@@cenncenn9765 sadly pretty much everything will be obsolete, i dont know about the starter manual but the Rulebook and every armies' Codex for sure. It's an entirely new rulebook which is aiming to streamline the game rules a bit. And lots of stats for units are changing too. There's not a huge amount specific changes revealed yet, but from what GW have said you can expect unit stats to change a bit particularly toughness on vehicles, leadership and AP.
i like how you paint the models not TOO perfectto not frustrate beginners like me. Noone was born as a perfect painter. good work, thanks alot for this video
Exactly. I wanted to do something that was very achievable for new hobbyists 😁
Using the box insert as a work/storage space is a great idea 👍
its handy to have a dedicated space to work in
Just bought this set. Painted and played when I was younger. Can't wait to paint and play again. Forgot how in depth it is. Thanks for the tutorial
your very welcome. Warhammer is really taking off now and I have a feeling its gonna become more popular very soon with the new edition and Henry making a series :D may as well get involved now
Thank you for the shout out! Excited to view this even as someone who's a bit further into the hobby!
Your very welcome. It’s the least I can do to show my appreciation for your donation ☺️
GW owes you $$ I upgraded from Recruit to Command Edition because of this video. Gonna see if I like the hobby.
Mate, hold off. There is a new edition coming out very soon. If you like the marines and necrons carry on. New rules and faction rules are free on day of release. The basics of the game won’t change too much. Just know that things are changing though. I will be making new edition content as well
@@TableTopReadyRUclips just getting it to see if I enjoy the mini crafting and get a rough idea for how the game is played. I’m mostly wanting to practice painting before I open the Grey Knights I got into Warhammer 40k for. Ty for the honest response. I’m hoping this will help me be more confident painting, know the basic rules , and maybe have a mini version of the game to show my like minded friends.
My next tutorial is grey knights and I gotta say it’s looking to be my best yet 🤭
Great Video. Really pulls it all together! Looking forward to any follow on videos you put out 👍👍👍👍👍
thank you. they're coming very soon :D
Big thanks from France. This video is fantastic for a beginner like me.
Thank you. I’m glad I’m able to help. I seem to have a lot of subscribers in France which is very cool 😁
I am so glad that I found your videos. I just came back from about a 11 year hiatus from the hobby. I bought this command edition because I love Necrons and it looks like they are getting way more viable in the 10th edition. By just adding the Doomstalker you instantly have the Necron Combat Patrol for 10th edition. I used this video and the how to paint your Necrons video #10 on this playlist to know exactly what I needed to buy paint-wise. This American appreciates your videos immensely! I did, however, find my brushes and palette paper for way cheaper at a store in the States called Hobby Lobby back in the acrylic painting section. I also need to add that I was totally using the scraping tool incorrectly until I watched this video. Looking forward to more videos in the future.
Welcome back to the hobby. I didn't think about the doom stalker. I've been intrested in doing a necron vehiecle so maybe that would be a good a choice for a tutorial in the future. I only include all those products in the video as a showcase. the scraping tool does take time to get use to but is a great tool once you are.
This is very useful! Thank you for lowering the barrier of entry for new players.
I'm glad this has helped. I make these videos because it's important to help new hobbyists. I remember how daunting it was to get started
Just felt like echoing what others have said. You've done an excellent job in not only breaking down everything a beginner needs to know, but portraying your enthusiasm and love for this hobby. It has given me the encouragement to begin my own adventure! Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. My aim is to make tutorials that anyone can follow along with and that can actually be used. I’ve had to teach myself how to paint and never really knew anyone else who was into painting, only gaming. So I just want to provide the information I wish I had 😃 I want everyone to be able to paint their miniatures
@@TableTopReadyRUclips Well you are one step ahead of me, I know no one who paints or plays the game. But I love the lore and having read some of the books, I thought I should try my hand at the game.
I'm prepared for a large gap between what my painted models look like and the beautiful ones you do - but am motivated to just enjoy the process, and with the help of your videos, slowly improve over time!
Aos: Dominion box & Tools and paints set is also a good choice for collecting/painting with great value.
Yes it is. Expect some videos on those later this year as well 😁
I would love to see you do an issue-by-issue video on the stormbringer series. Your content is the best
I’ve thought about it and looked at that series. The problem for me is, the miniatures you get are so random, I would have preferred working towards a complete army. Maybe I’ll do my own series doing a build and paint along to complete and army 🤷🏼♂️ it’s an idea I have
Thank you for the guide, you're my favourite Warhammer youtuber! Leaving a comment to boost the algorithm!
I like quality over quantity but would like to see Michael tackle Age of Sigmar Skaven or maybe nurgle demons
Ah shucks, thank you very much. That really doesn’t help more than people know 😊
Dear Michael. Your videos gave me hope and motivation on finally starting the Warhammer 40k hobby. I've nearly painted all the miniatures and the terrain in my "command" box all with your help. Thank you for making this possible for me. Might be joining your patreon. Kind regards from Switzerland.
That’s amazing. Well done. I hope you’ve been enjoying your hobby journey so far. Supporting the channel through patreon would be greatly appreciated but know, just liking and commenting and sharing really massively helps 😃 I hope you continue to join me on my own journey as I’m still learning to be a better hobbyist myself 😋
Really great video. I can’t overstate it. Thanks again
thank you, always appreciate the comments and support :D
I made a video about this set 4months ago, and at the end stated I’d be doing a beginner series based on the command manual inside.. which I had still planned on doing but guess you beat me to it 😂😂😂❤
I hope your still going to make it? We need more beginner friendly content out there. I can’t do this on my own. We need to reach as many people as possible 💪🏻
@@TableTopReadyRUclips
Oh 100% 🙌 I sent the set to a commission painter so it looks nice for the series, should have it back next week so I can get started 😁 but yes I’m planning on a multi part series of bite size videos to gradually bring people into the game and to cover all the little things I’ve found as a beginner myself ☺️🙌❤️
Just got this box set as I'm a brand new starter and wanted to say your tutorials are brilliant and will be extremely valuable to me starting my journey. I do have a favour to ask at some point could you do a primaris chaplain tutorial I haven't seen many and like I said your style is very easy to follow and digest. Thanks again
Thank you. Welcome to the hobby. I am eager to do a chaplain, librarian and apothecary. I’ll be doing them in between the bigger projects, when I can fit them in 🖖🏻
@@TableTopReadyRUclips legend thank you 👍🏻
Great video for all newcomers!
I’m glad you think so ☺️
Great video
Thank you ☺️
This looks intense but I'm excited to try it out. I enjoy building Gundams so this seems like a fun thing to also get into.
Haha its very rewarding. Very different from gundams but still as fun. I hope you give it a go. Check out my painting your first miniature video 😁
YAAAAY a new upload, great video as always. On question Michael, have you ever thought about doing a painting video on Age of Sigmar?
Yes and there will be AOS content this year 😃 I actually paint and play more AOS for myself
@@TableTopReadyRUclips ohhh very nice to hear, which race/faction do you play most? I love Skaven most since I played Vermintide 2 a lot
I have kruleboyz, ironjawz, moonclan, stomcast, kharadron, soon to do bonesplitters and lizard men. I use to have shaven many years ago and will probably do them again once the range is updated again 😁
This channel has been so helpful esspecially for painting❤❤
I’m glad my content has helped. Thanks for letting me me know 😁 it makes creating these tutorials absolutely worth all the effort. Keep going 💪🏻
@@TableTopReadyRUclips would you carw to spill any future ideas for your channel or create a video for what's next for your channel. P.S. Maybe a future how to play 10th edition?
I’m currently working on a grey knights tutorial. Then I’ll do sisters of battle. I will be getting the leviathan box and I will do a tutorial for the terminators and swarm lord first. When they release starter boxes for the new edition I will make beginner content. Painting first miniature, how to play and a beginner guide to painting both factions in the new starter boxes. 🤔 after that I’m not sure. I would like to paint the Lion and start doing some AOS content as well. 😋 now you know
@@TableTopReadyRUclips wow, I will definetely be waiting for that how to play video. If it is written down by the gods of chaos gods then they might want me to slay their minions with a grey knights force that might be besides your force. I will keep an eye on the channel and will be using alot of you how to paint tutorials thank you so much for all your helpful tips, advice and tutorials they really help out shiny new players and even seasoned scar boys.🤗🤗🤗❤❤
I’ve been waiting for this! But at the moment I’m knee deep in DG and painting at the pace of the army! Slow! Thanks for the content, I have no doubt learned so many things from all the vids. My minis looks parade ready and I’m really proud of them.
thats fantastic, well done. better to take your time. hopefully you'll have them finished for 10th :D
This was an excellent introduction to 40K!
I’m glad you think so 😊
Awesome , fantastic !
Wonderful 😁 great comment
gotta love that the man goes full on God Emporer on us to explain the lore.
its the will of the emperor
Another way to make push fit models fit together easier is to snip a very small part of the pegs off, best to glue it though
This is the way
Thanks for this video
your very welcome :D
Thanks for another great video!
your welcome :D glad you liked it
Solid tutorial, great video
Thank you so much 😁
Amazing, that's the most complete tutorial ever! That's a really fantastic idea! Thank you. I've never played (I just paint), but I didn't expect it to be so complicated! So many things to think about... Is Kill Team easier to learn and play?
Honestly it seems complicated but just like everything, you get use to it with practice and you can always look things up. Your not expected to memorise everything 😋 kill team can be just as complicated, it’s just a smaller and quicker version on the main game
The best way to get started is to go drop $500 on a bunch of random cool minis you like. Then drop $500 on an actual army you're gonna play. Then never paint them and be ashamed at the mountain of grey plastic. I guess Michaels way is ok too.
Haha 😂 it’s a right of passage. I too have done this
Love the video I wanna do something similar for aos but no clue what I'm doing with youtube lol
thank you. you can be as prepared as you want to be but you don't really start learning and figuring stuff out until you actually start making the content. Make a list of the things you need to get started and what you need to know, as well decide what your content is going to look like. it's a process, but you gotta actually start doing it :)
Great video! My brother and I have started collecting Warhammer 40k like a few months ago and were planning to play the game in a near future for sure and just because of your tips and tricks videos, I feel more confident into playing the game and even painting my armies. Just recently I've assemble lots of miniatures from my different armies and I just hope that I'll be able to do a decent job with the painting cause I've almost finished to prime most of my miniatures. I did do a good job in my opinion with the painting set of the space marines even if I was anxious at 1st but in overall I did a great painting job. I do want to do some touch up just for the highlights just to make sure that I'll be able to do an okai highlights or just for painting the small details of a miniature.
That awesome. Good job getting this far with it. Remember there is no rush, it’s always better to take your time and enjoy it. I’m really hope you get into playing as well and you get a lot of fun out the hobby 😃
@@TableTopReadyRUclips I'm not in a rush for sure but during the weekends I try to assemble at least a box that I have in my shelf plus I'll try to buy some boxes during this summer or even after the summer just to make my armies wish list. Recently I've bought some citadel paints just to make sure that I have everything I need to paint my armies and my brother bought me a set of paintbrush cause I only had 3 paintbrush. Thanks for your support!
Great job again, Micheal!
Thank you 😊
Thanks
Thank you So so much for the donation. I'll put this towards the next project which is going to be the Cadian Combat Patrol box hopefully :)
I’m new to war hammer watched so many videos on it and this has given me the most understanding of the game as we did it in chunks and was so much easier to follow I still think I need to play a game or 2 but I don’t feel like I know nothing now thank you!
Thanks for checking out my content 😁 this was a massive project and I’m glad it’s helped you out. Honestly I would wait until 10th is out in a couple of months now. I’ll be doing a whole new series of videos and it’s should be a lot more straight forward to pick up 😃 until then just plenty of miniatures to get painted 💪🏻
do the undercoat + same color as base obligatory or just the undercoat is enough ? for exemple red undercoat for khorn berkzerkers?
It’s really upto you. Your miniatures will look better if you take the time to paint a proper base colour. The sprays don’t match the pot colours
Four Millenia.
FOURTY THOUSAND
Hi great content really helping me begin my Warhammer journey, how should I paint the spines of the necrons? I can’t find any examples online
For me the spines were left after the first initial dry brush. If you wanted to make more of a feature of them, you could paint them leadbelcher, shade them with nuln oil and then a light dry brush
I'm new to 40k; brand spanking new. I appreciate your work here. Is there a forum somewhere I can ask really basic questions ( not just painting but more basic) and not be roasted for my ignorance? One of my first questions is when I see squads of marines for sale, can that be for any chapter? There are usually, maybe always, ultra marines on the box. I know I want to build an army of loyalist marines but not ultras (maybe imperial fists) If those boxed sets of marine squads are for any loyalist faction, what is the best 10 marine squad to start with?
So most of the marine kits you’ll see are universally used by all chapters. There are chapter specific kits but they will be obvious which chapter. There are no silly questions 😁
I really love youre videos m8, the best WH channel imho. No bla bla and look how awesome I am, no just good content for a newb like myself. Keep it up bro 👍👍🤖🖌
Thanks for the high praise. I’ll do my best 😁 💪🏻 I ain’t stopping anytime soon

Good luck 💪🏻 I hope you have lots of fun. Take your and have fun with it
@@TableTopReadyRUclips 100%should be here by the weekend
, until then I'll be binge watching your entire compendium, I especially like your methods on the Space Wolves.
8:45 or maybe cut the peg diagonally/45 degree
That’s a good idea 💪🏻
This video was quite educational, however you didn't go into too much detail about units and how that works. Is it considered an advanced mechanic or something because it almost seems rather vital for the gameplay.
Basically everything is considered a unit. I don’t specifically go into what a unit is as I describe everything as units pretty much through out the video. Mission 2 does go into unit coherency if a unit is made up of multiple bases.
@@TableTopReadyRUclips yea thats the part that was confusing. I'm not sure if I understand it or not but I got the impression that while everything is a unit that groups of figures that have certain matching criteria can move as though they are a single unit. I'm sure it's more complex than that though.
As soon as i saw the video I stopped what I was doing and started watching
It’s a long watch 😋 thank you
this is amazing with the gameplay at the end. awesome!
thank you, I apreciate the comment :D
Is this starter set manual and rulebook obsolete because of the new 10th edition? sorry I'm pretty new
Yes, but all the new rules for 10th will be free and available on day of release. I will be doing beginner content when starter sets are released. Personally I would wait. Perhaps start with a smaller kit of marines or something to get painting 😁
Where can we get a ruler like yours?
its a very basic 30cm ruler that costs about 80p, nothing special. doesn't;t even have to be a ruler. anything similar will do :)
When can we get shirts? 👀
When I find the quality is good enough for people to spend money on 😊 I am working on it though
Thanks!
Thank you so much 😃 I really appreciate he donation. I’ll put this towards the new edition box 😁
He has the best smile 😊
Ah shucks ☺️ thanks
I believe there are better and cheaper options for some tools
1. Brushes. You can get better and cheaper NYLON brushes from any arts and crafts store. You`ll need #0, #1, #2 brushes for most infantry minis and #4 and #6 for the terrain and shades. You can get "texture tool" there too. Ask for sculpting tools.
2. Pallet is probably the most outrageously EXPENSIVE and UNNECESSARY thing here.
You`ll need a plate, a paper towel or a big napkin, and some baking paper aka parchment.
Fold the towel to fit on the plate, cut a piece of the parchment to fit the folded towel.
Put a paper towel on the plate and soak it with water, put the parchment on top of the towel and let it soak too.
Otherwise very good guide.
Michael always uses GW's paints and always links them in his description so I'm not suprised he didn't give the most budget friendly options but I think anyone who wants to start painting will figure thos 2 things out themselves but it's nice you pointed them out
I’m glad you think this is a good guide. This took me WEEKS to put together. I don’t see how this is a trick or why I would need to trick any one 🤷🏼♂️ I say in the video many times that I’m showcasing the different products and people can use what ever they want. I think the products are designed well and do a great job for they are used for. Let people decide for themselves about the products and Please don’t comment saying I’m tricking people because I’m not
@@TableTopReadyRUclips I am sorry you feel offended, I had no intention to. You have done amazing work going through the starter edition contents. I`ll redact the comment.
Once again, I am sorry.
