  • Today's amplifier is a prime example of the venerable Fender Vibrolux Reverb from one of the best eras in Fender amp history, this one specifically an early 1965 model! These amps are 35w in a compact 2x10 combo, with the Oxford speaker option, driven by 6L6 tubes. This particular amp has incredible vibrato and reverb, all around leading to one of the best Vibrolux Reverb sounds we've heard! The amp is in great physical condition and all original, right down to the footswitch. Today Trevor has his custom Pin-up strat built by Eric Daw, to touch on the wonderful cleans these amps can create.
This amp just landed in the shop, so give us a call for more details!

If you ever wished your Deluxe Reverb had more wattage, this is where you go. In spite of the prejudice against Silver Face Fenders, my '78 sounds lush and fat. When I bought it, the first stop was my amp tech (El Roy). We opened it up and found a completely original amp. My first impulse was to have him mod it to Black Face specs, but it sounded so good that he stopped me. He had me take it home and to a few gigs. I'm glad he did, there's no sense in modding a fat, luscious sounding amp. Thank you, El Roy!!

The amp sounds truly amazing and he's a great salesman. That's the best way of saying this thing smells like a dirty cigarette, I've ever heard lol. But in all seriousness, sounds so good.

As much as I hate cigarettes, I have to say that sometime I think those are what makes the difference in those better sounding guitars and amps from the past ...

I have a 1966, last of the Blackface, second owner, have owned it since January of 1969. I have the original cover, it IS plain, no logo. The original buyer played both an Oxford and Jensen equipped Vibrolux at the store, Beaverton Music, in Beaverton Oregon USA and had them blend drivers.. so from the store it has one Oxford and one Jensen. Mine is physically cleaner than then the example you show, though for 30 years it sat on casters, now back on the original button feet, so there are tell-tale witness marks of the 4 small screws used on each
caster. My grill cloth is not browned out, still sparkly and blue-ish. Its is still dead stock as built with the exception of one thing, the RCA plugs and the co-axial wires on the foot pedal were upgraded. The original actually sound bad and degrade the amp clarity when plugged in. I prefer Telefunkin long plate 12AX7 and 12AT7 tubes, but in recent years these have gone nuts in price... The JJ replica of the 12AX7 is not bad. Power tubes, I prefer genuine NOS vintage Gold Lion from the UK. They too have gone stupid in price, but for gigging, as in just using them up, use a modern currently made set of tubes. Save the rare high dollar outputs for the most important sessions.

Run the reverb return from the tank, into the NORMAL channel. Roll off most of the bass, run the treble up to 8/9, maybe even hit the "BRIGHT" switch. You will be loving life. You will need some obvious connector cables/plugs to make it happen, but no biggie ... Sounds wonderful. You will be hearing more guitar and less of the "mechanical" function of the reverb tank.

however, almost no-one professional or otherwise, plays songs using that tone today. if someone has a 1950s-60s retro surf band, you have the amp. that has 6L6 tubes, the original 1956 Vibrolux had 6v6.

@@jacobm7421 6L6 vs 6V6. output transformer that is smaller in proportion compared to the Deluxe reverb and the twin. What ever the values of the resistors and caps have veered off to that make it sound magical! Great sounding amp! Sorry to say but this amp isn't going to stick around for 10 years
