- Today we have an incredibly special guitar to share with you, a vibey hardtail 1959 Fender Stratocaster that spent time as a house-guitar in Antone's Nightclub down in Austin, Texas! It has been in the hands of quite a few major players, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and has now found its way into our shop! Jay is here to tell you all about this incredible instrument, before handing things off to Aaron Hiebert for a demo through the trusty 1978 Fender Vibrolux Reverb we have here right now as well!

Stand by me, Strat brother ... One of the greatest songs/recordings of all time, with perhaps the world's greatest musical interlude every recorded. Good catch!
That wasn’t a demonstration that was a mini concert of Stratocaster mastery! One the best sounding my old ears have heard on RUclips. I don’t want to own it I’d just like to play it and walk away satisfied. I hope the next owner plays it and doesn’t make it a museum piece!

WOW! This is my favourite Haron’s demo so far. I always feel like he don’t really seem impressed about the gear, like if it was just a good guitar, especially in the ‘58 korina V demo. But for this one, Haron look like he can feel the mojo out of this strat. Thanks ECG for your awesome upload everyday. It make my life better.

As lovely as this guitar is, I think the credit for the tone in this video should go to the amp. I have a suped up 79 Vibrolux and it sounds like this. The small transformers and the 10” speakers, plus tube rectifier, are a magical combination - it is sweet but really screams when you push it. I suppose if I had a million, I’d buy the guitar and keep it locked in a safe. The better buy is in the amp. Someone should go and get it.
Some of the finest playing I’ve personally ever heard, unbelievable! And yeah, that guitar with that Vibrolux sounds killer!
Funny how of all the people that played that guitar, nobody was "blown away" enough to buy it...lol
If SRV wanted it bad enough, I'm sure he would've acquired it...

That is THE Strat tone IMHO. Sounds like a dream guitar to me. The weight plus the balance from neck to bridge pickup Is amazing. Cool history as well of course 🙂

Now that's a real demo of a fantastic guitar with tons of character. Played on a beautiful amp. And played by someone whom is the cat's PJ's!!!!!!
Trust me. I love Stratocasters. My first guitar was a 1954. My second guitar was a 1964. Been playing them for 57 years. But I sure would love to see some early '60s SG Standards and Specials ... even some really good Custom Shop reissues ... Surely, you get one in now and then?

I've played and collected Stratocasters over 33 years, even heard and played some really amazing vintage ones with my family owning a pawn shop in the mid 90s, and I can't think of lusting after another one much more than this.

Great sounding Strat!? Wow 😳 Hardtail...honestly, most of the Strat’s that you make you go WOW 🤩 are hard tails? Great History.
While it’s arguably theoretical, that was one of my absolute faves from Aaron. Thanks for laying that down, so my ears could pick it up and enjoy it.

Holy smokes!!! Talk about a sales pitch. That's how you do it! Fantastic playing,superb. The strat and the lux sound incredible. Sweetest combo's I have ever heard have always been fender valve amps and fender guitars. Nothing sounds like them.

I would guestimate that those bridge saddles have been replaced along the way as they are right clean! And this Vibrolux sounds quite wonderful ... wooh!

The guy you are calling Kenny Wayne Shepherd is actually a guitarist named Wes Jeans. He was/is a common player in the Dallas blues scene. And that is what the "WJ" on his strap is referring to.
I think my brother plays with Wes all the time.

I wonder what dates this as a 59 rather than a 60. I have a hardtail not too far from this one - mines 46103 (this one is is 43190)

My first good strat was a hardtail partcaster with a brazilian board... in white pretty much like this one. Mine had an very light ash body.
3 minutes in we see the original tuners/bushings, nut, and frets. What are those brown circular items to the top right?
This is my dream set up. 59 strat is THE strat and what better to play it throughout the than a princeton.

The oldest vintage hardtail Strat I've ever seen was from the 70s. I had no idea they made hardtails before the CBS period.
What an amazing piece. All the great blues guys that have played this. Antone's was legendary. Shame no price was listed.

Question: Do all 59 strats have whiter pickup covers (compared to the knobs) or is the colour variation due to ageing?
My 58 had very white plastic but knobs were a bit different cause hands touch them and not pu covers
