  • Take a sonic guided tour of the newest member of Fender’s ’68 Custom amp lineup, the ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb.
    With its dual 10” Celestion® speakers, silver-and-turquoise control panel and sparkling silver grille cloth, the 35-watt ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender’s late-’60s “silverface” amps. In a special design mod, both channels (“vintage” and “custom”) now have reverb and tremolo, and the custom channel has modified Bassman® tone circuitry that delivers more low end, earlier breakup and greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity.

    I think this amp is definitely loud enough to play with a drummer and stay clean, which is what a lot of people seem to wonder about. I just bought one and it starts to break up around 5ish in the vintage channel. It's not as loud as a twin but when I had one of those I rarely had it above 3! Great sounding, portable amp.

    I think this is the best sounding Fender amp I ever heard. I turned it up to 6, 7, 8 and was blown away. Perfect in every way. Could have jammed with it all night.

    I played the 68 SFDR this weekend, took it thru its paces from low to soaring blowout and hardly any hiss at all.

    Shared reverb and trem is worth the price of admission. I used a deluxe reverb for a long time but like this one a bit better. I put creambacks in it and it rocks very nicely. Nice job fender.

    Damn, I thought I was set on the '68 Deluxe Reverb but this also has my interest too. Would this 35 watt amp be a significant difference compared to the 22 watt DR? I would want to try and control it for apartment levels though, it's possible but I'd want to know if the Vibro would still be doable.

    • @BranoBoda
      @BranoBoda 8 лет назад

      my friend has an original one from 70s and its horribly loud. significant volume difference to 22w? no... 100w amp is not 10 times louder than 10w (more like two times)

    • @ebookpioneers
      @ebookpioneers 7 лет назад +4

      ANY amp is "doable" anywhere by either using a speaker attenuator or simply running a clean boost into it. (Sounds big at low volumes.) 30 to 40 watts is the perfect gig size amp. A 22-watt Deluxe may cut it for smaller stuff, but unless you're playing little coffee houses and small bars I think you're going to feel under-powered in many situations. Better to have too much amplification than too little. Also, with many Fender 2-speaker amps you can simply yank the cord going to one of the speakers and cut the volume nearly in half. Owners of Vibrolux, Pro Reverb, and Twin Reverb amps are famous for doing this. In the case of the Twin, you can also pull two of the power tubes to cut power in half. As far as I'm concerned, this '68 Vibrolux is probably the 2nd most versatile good sounding amp Fender is currently making at a fair price. The HR Deville ML (this is different from other HD models) is probably a little better but 60-watts is a bit much. Having said that, you may be able to run JJ 6V6's in it to cut the power in half.

    I had the oportunity of trying one of 68 custom deluxe...sound great, but its true..the crunch comes too soon, just with the level on n.3-4, the thing is that those amps have celestion speakers, that's great if you are looking for that sound, but itsnot a fender sound with jensen speaker. On the other hand, we must know they are mexican built, and thats can be great too. the think is what kind of sound are you looking for. I was thinking of buying one of this (twin or deluxe) but finally i'll try 65 deluxe reverb almost for sure!

    • @MrToniRoll
      @MrToniRoll 9 лет назад +1

      you are lucky of having one original, my DR65 doesnt break so soon, but I love both sounds, this DR sweet clean and the other breaking...

    • @L3ONARDO07
      @L3ONARDO07 8 лет назад

      That doesn't even make sense because it's not even a reissue. I have a 1975, which has the same circuit as a real 1968 Vibrolux. It sounds nothing like the new custom models, they are totally different amps.
      The vintage amps have more clean headroom. More sag, different circuit, different speakers.
      Like they said in the video, it's called a "68 custom because it shares the "drip edge" cosmetics. That's it.

  • @jeffvogelsong62
    @jeffvogelsong62 9 лет назад

    I thought the speakers would have been to crunchy or too this or that. Played clean to a little breakup the most beautiful sounding speakers. Above that they get a little crunchier but still nice. The amp sounds great. I bought it sight unseen or heard. I thought this amp would suck. Total opposite its the best amp I've ever played or heard, period. A gretch hollow body threw this amp is awesome, multiply layers of harmonics!

    Fender combo amps are cool, as long as someone else is carrying them for me. I wish Fender would modernize and make small stack amp heads, and 1x12 or 2x12 extension cabs...Instead of making anchor weighted combos. The older I get, the less I am inclined to want to throw my back moving one of these amps.

    Hi, I have this amp. I recieved it along with a Jaguar(block inlay) for my 13th. birthday. In 1966. I wiil be 63 in a few weeks, so they are now turning 50 yrs. old. Both are in very good condition. Is there a way to tell the manufacture date of the amp? Thanks

    • @L3ONARDO07
      @L3ONARDO07 8 лет назад

      There should be serial number stamped on the back, on the chassis. Also you can date the transformer. There are charts available on the internet that help you date fender amps.

    • @dustinwilliams3689
      @dustinwilliams3689 9 лет назад

      I'd say with wanting lots of clean headroom and not needing the PA, you'd best look elsewhere. This is 35W and decided for earlier breakup. Twin Reverb is likely what you're looking for.

      Played one a couple weeks ago. Ch. 1 only a tiny bit of hiss at idle 1/2 volume; nothing that couldn't be fixed in a recording situation with a couple mouse clicks and certainly nothing that would impact live performance at all. Ch.2 pretty quiet.

    • @KRUSTYskates
      @KRUSTYskates 8 лет назад

      +bandawhat33 why the 68 over the 65? ive only ever had the chance to play the 65

    • @bandawhat33
      @bandawhat33 8 лет назад

      KRUSTYskates because the 68 custom has more definition in the sound. Almost all strats sound the same on the 65 it has this weird tinny sound. also the 68 takes pedals and distortion better especially on that custom channel which is a bassman voiced channel. in my opinion it's the better and more consistant amp.

    • @bandawhat33
      @bandawhat33 8 лет назад

      ***** i like the hot rod deluxe better than these amps actually. so i would stick with that. it's cheaper and in my opinion sounds better. but i like the older hot rod deluxes, not the new ones called iii. or hot rod deluxe 3. I'm talking about the ones with the silver pannel.

    • @sempercompellis
      @sempercompellis 8 лет назад

      they are basically the same amp at this point. the speakers are really the only difference which is a factor for some (some prefer the 12s some prefer the 10s/ Note: you can put 2 12s in the vibrolux which sounds killer as well) also there is 15 more watts of headroom on the Vibrolux
