- Classic WoW has been the backbone of World of Warcraft, it seems, since its release back in 2019. With massive successes, from original Classic, to TBC, Wrath of the Lich King, and even Hardcore - it would appear to many that most of the enthusiasm for World of Warcraft lies on the Classic side of the equation. But one thing people have been asking for for years is Classic PLUS: A sort of updated version of Classic WoW, with new content to enjoy and a new way to enjoy the 2004 version of the game.
And Blizzard has answered with Season of Discovery - a Classic WoW experience unlike anything anyone has seen before. Them being able to summon the Big bosses like old AV is an awesome idea I love that.
I think the biggest thing I do like is the level cutoffs. It's like a patch every time. I think it's going to give time for blizzard to figure out where something is working or not. I absolutely love that there is no beta testing even though we have people data mining stuff. My main is a warlock but I will say I have no intention of being a tank. Great concept though. I did tank for mimiron in original wotlk. I'm actually hoping that they do more with crafting, and make drops or patterns much more rare. I remember in original tbc and see a Rouge with the off hand glaive and thought he was a god.

Very hyped to be a shaman tank in Season of Discovery. I had always wished that the idea of a shaman tank had gotten more love. The talents and abilities were always kinda there, but now they’re really going for it and I’m here for it!
I kind of wish they had gone the Turtle WoW approach with Classic +, expanding on Warcraft 3 lore, but this is a good start.
Tbf, if they decide that SoD servers never reset/shutdown, but keep getting content, it would be very good.
The rune thing sounds interesting, and I recall Tabula Rasa had the same thing as the way your character would learn new abilities, and I used to love being out in the world and finding one of them. I am always here for anything Classic, because it just has a charm that always brings me back over and over.
New sets: TOTALLY agree! Reinforce some of those runes with new levelling sets. Plus: in classic, it's always disappointing when you out-level a low-level set before you even get the whole thing
I'm not sure about all the new abilities. The great thing about classic is the speciality that your class has. If we go the route of 10 healers, 10 tanks, and 20 DPS, then that dilutes your choice greatly.
I agree. Let's go play Classic so Blizzard can cook this new product that is not Classic and will not affect Classic.
Not everyone is gonna tank and heal. Some classes get to tank, some get to heal, but not all of them. And they can modify and tweak them, too. But if you think about it, right now the only tanks that seriously get used are Warriors, so giving anyone else a fighting chance is good.
Nixxiom I agree. A big boss we could summon and new armor sets, either from raid or from the ashenvale pvp would be good additions
Diablo II, and to a lesser extent D3, were full of leveling sets. These are awesome and I would love to see them in the game!

Yo Nixxiom, you may have missed Ascension, they did runes a few years ago and have now improved on it.
Though Ascension is WAY more in depth and crazy blizz has kept it simple and true to class identity with abilities you get. Yes mage heal and lock tank is a bit wild but look at Ascension and it's not that crazy :)
Agreed, Ascension is insane with their systems. Now how / if they balance that, then for sure Blizzard can balance one season

For me it is a fun experiment I have played a few times for about a month then put it away, it takes a long time to wrap your head around but for me it's not sustainable for a long time. SOD is a perfect blend of what private servers have done with Blizzard special sauce, can't wait :)

They removed 35 levels of gameplay, 15 dungeons, and 4 raids, hundreds of quests. How is this a "plus"? They removed classic stuff, and filled it with retail stuff.

There are no healing rogues or tanking mages. Go through the runes again, it’s rogue and warlock tanks. Mage healers. There’s no “everyone can do every role”
You forgot the profession crafted stuff which is also pretty nice too.
Very happy with what Season of Mastery is looking like, and I have no doubt that they'll do more if its successful. This is definitely them testing the waters of what will work and what players like. If this goes well, I can definitely see them exploring more and more of the unfinished content that was intended for the game. I can also see them adding new races and quests, maybe even a new class?? Not right away obviously, but down the road.
I hope it goes well for them because I imagine they had some fun building it and I would like them to continue to do so.
This does feel like blizzard is experimenting with the idea of a classic+ and depending on how it’s received by the players they might be able to add more resources to it
I’m so excited for this. I’ve always Classic + and this is a huge step! So happy to have content!
1- The runes are a cool idea, love it. An example I saw was feral Druids bringing a wind fury type buff for alliance is awesome! For those with balance concerns.. the level cap will help them balance them far quicker.
2- New sets, I’ve always thought this should’ve been a thing since before original TBC came along. The defias set, SM set.. but they could go another route in this “discovery” mindset.. give every zone a set that you collect as you do quests/dungeons in those zones that culminates into a complete set by the end of the quest line for that zone. Give sets different abilities that only function in that zone, or help get you through that zone a little better.
3- Ashenvale AV? Yes please! And I love the idea of bringing back the Uber-boss summons. Link this with the zone set acquisition… a set that is your intro gear to the BFD raid. However all of this should also be copied over to…
4- An eastern kingdoms AV zone and raid as well. Giving only a single focus area like this is going to neglect other lvl 25 zones. Give an equivalent experience on the “other side” of the map will help keep population density spread out.
Otherwise I completely agree with everything you’ve said. I would only add my only pet peeve of the “classic” series… update the graphics and models to current models.

Making a 2nd post here since I wanna help out Nixxiom, such a great guy. We did get some things we've asked for. Shaman/Pala tanks. We did NOT ask for rogue/lock tanks, mage healers.
There are many reasons many (myself incl) left Retail for Classic. We did not leave that to play some Retail light game (Season of Disaster). All they had to do was to make under the hood changes and maybe some class tweaks. Give Shadow Priest and Boomkins some kind of mana regen etc things like that, not overtune ofc.
The entire point of Classic+ was to *expand* on Vanilla content, not just reuse it. Retailers replying "don't play it then". Classic+ was not about to make a "Retail Classic" or such.

I'm really happy with the level increments. It actually gives a reason to level professions while you level because you can't go straight to 60 and grind your profession out to max. I think I might try LW or tailoring on my boomie this time around. Alchemy was nice, but having relevant gear that scales with me would also be nice.
I want classic with the retail character models.
one thing i feel bad for blizzard about is that they will NEVER please everyone ever lol, they have the worst fanbase that is always gonna be split and hate anything they do.
They need to please me.

Thats funny, since pleasing most people is rather easy.
For the vaaast majority the game doesnt need to be anywhere near perfect to them.
Simply choosing good design decisions checks of if the game is "good" to begin with.
Classic was very close to that but the small loud community that is progress players wanted more content quicket back then and blizzard complied and that was the beginning of the end.
Classic + if done correctly can easy kill world of warcraft, that said, only retail.
There will always be a very very small core which simply wants to play nostalgia classic, i though like playing classic because its simply closer to a good mmotpg then any other game, the rpg is still intact....
No they just need to stop being a bad company and put the game first not money. It's not difficult. It's a community that's been let down time and time again. You must be young and new here. It's ok.
So the season of discovery happens in the wow classic vanilla, or in the Wrath of the lich king classic?
I hope that if they do classic + they won't do + levels. The point of classic is that every raid, every content is meaningful. The moment U increase the lvl cap all the previous raids become irrelevant.
I would love to se them ad good things from other expansions like arenas, rated bg, mythic dungeons, class challenges like in legion(?) Where you got a cool looking weapon and also a new BG = battle royal, last man standing. Some new dungeons and raids. And maybe some jumping puzzles like in gw2. Would also love to see professions becoming more fun with solo missions etc. Professions nowdays are just too boring. IMO.
Sadly I don't think Mages can be tanks. The new roles are not THAT flexible. They have them listed on wowhead I think.
I still remember when classic came every streamer scream NO CHANGES! it did not take long for a few voices start to say a few changes. Now its classic+! I dont play it but i think its hilarious 😂

Of course. When Blizzard rereleased Classic WoW, people wanted no changes. They wanted to reexperience the game that they grew up with and loved. Now that time has come and that time has gone. And where it might've been expected for Classic WoW to simply die off after its run in 2019, instead it just grew larger. Even the original game, vanilla, still has a booming population, on top of Hardcore. So people began to wonder and lean into the possibility of a Classic Plus someday, now that Classic WoW had been enjoyed all over again. Would Blizzard do it though? Probably not. Which is why Classic Plus was such a big surprise at Blizzcon for so many. It isn't that people are going back on their word, it's just that we got the OG Classic WoW dream fulfilled and now people are dreaming for something new, fresh and exciting. Regardless, original WoW (Vanilla) will always remain the greatest MMO experience in gaming history; the game that changed the world.
There is a difference between what you think you’re talking about and what you’re actually talking about. Classic wow in essence is nothing more than the idea of a stripped down version of the game it doesn’t mean a museum. You can take a fantastic platform in this case the original version of world of Warcraft and build of that platform not change it. Adding raids, stories, dungeons, and class “adjustments” doesn’t ruin vanilla if it focuses on the classic experience. It’s fleshing out the original vision not changing it.

I quit TBC Classic because I knew when they added the TBC Pack with the boost and mount, that they would add the Wow Token and they did in Wrath and it just kills any feel of achievement or Gear feeling nice when earned when someone else can be more geared just because they have actual money they can spend like crazy.
The set would be cool if the 2 set was faster cast on gathering buy 2% or 10% , then it will be something people keep for the whole game then ppl would farm the raid just for that bonus for gold farming
There is actually a private server who made the discovery a thing, it's called WoW Ascension, on that Server the discovered spells are Scrolls spread across the world and you can use them to obtain spells and passives randomly and not just related to your Class or Race. Just like in Manga and Manhua, just like what an MMO should be, not a single player can be similar to the other in terms of build, you can be unique. feels like playing Solo Leveling but in wow universe xD hopefully blizzard does similar Season in the future
I had always wanted Vanilla with 2.0 Talent Trees, summoning stones and add BE's and Draenei with ZG. Possibly bring in Kara, ZA and SWP with some modifications also.
New dungeon sets would be great! I'd even be okay with token drops and specific loot vendors (gonna suck if they are constantly killed though so maybe a neutral vendor or make it like a quest giver? 🤔)
I picture the next level cap being 40, turning Ulda into a raid maybe? Lots of options for dungeons at that lv and it's a significant milestone for talents, mounts, and gear for many classes.
I'd also enjoy seeing more "world bosses" added at the corresponding "end games" that give rep, ex and loot.
They confirm level caps to be 25,40,50,60. Most likely at 40 will be SM and Gnomer raids, respective for both factions starting area dungeons.

That level cap and BFD as the endgame raid is weird and unexpected but I think this is the best way they could've done it.
Especially since BFD is my favourite WoW dungeon.

Ascension WoW did the runes thing. I recommend checking out that server if you want to have that feeling of playing wow for the first time again
With 25 as max level, I feel the Stockades should be turned into an alliance dungeon that's equivalent to RFC.
They did already say 40/50/60 are the ranges, they are adding new quests and stuff some for the runes, talk from interviews is they are looking at completing old quest chains that didn't get finished, and looking at zones that weren't in classic. I agree with you about you can't do Classic right, never make anyone happy with PLUS due to what they want. I think they aren't going crazy at 25 because they are feeling things out and saving things for later level ranges.
My only problem with Blizzard's take on Classic + is that these are seasons not a full on classic +, I get it that they are just trying out new stuff and seeing the players reactions and collecting feedback but why not just open classic + servers for good and update it and work on them much like OSRS. That would be a dream come true, Blizzard getting the WoW Classic team to work on the classic + in the same way as Jagex does with OSRS. Community polling on stuff and just being open and (mostly) honest about what direction the classic + would go.
Me personally, I'd love to see official take on the Turtle WoW classic, expand the old world map in lore accurate way and finish off quests and unfinished content that was still in vanilla or planned for vanilla, like Gilneas and the elf lands etc.
They want to see what works before they drop Classic+. Voting is never gonna work. It would be a mess. OSRS is also shit, honestly, it looks like shit, y'all have to have some serious nostalgia to play that shit ass looking game. It looks not much better than a Super Nintendo game.
I like the idea of phases from 1 to 60, since vanilla WoW to classic my best and fun memories comes from lvling up, in classic when i got to 60 i don't even remember having fun doing raids doing AQ or Naxx, at 60 you get your high end gear for what? To log on to the next week and do the same thing over and over
Um but now you're going to do that multiple times on your way to 60. You'll be stuck at "endgame" lvl 25 for weeks / months, and once they unlock the next level bracket the gear you farmed in BFD will be useless 3 levels later.

I'm really excited. I love the idea of more flavor for the classes, feeling more like the rpg classes. I really hope the professions get more love too. Engineering could have so much more little gadgets.
Progressive levelling means if you cap at 25 it means you will get one shot by mobs in tamari’s for example ? Right ? Or they gona scale ?
What I'm interested in is if there is some official info regarding fate of Wotlk Classic, after Cata Classic is out?

the raid version of BFD is gonna need to be packed full of loot to be worth it. I hear it's only a 3 day lockout which is nice. I know they also said they were adding a whole set of cloth tanking gear for that particular raid, but not sure if that is a set as we know them or just pieces that are mostly unrelated.
Nixxioms right, regardless of whether or not you like it or think it's a good idea, wpvp Ashenvale is here, which means they need to add a pve element to it like farming resources from various means to spawn helpful npcs.
If it's gonna be like alterac valley then it needs to at the very least take the foundational aspects of alterac valley, or change it up and at least do as great, if not better. Haven't heard of different and better, so we're just gonna go ahead and ask for it not to be a messed up gimped AV in Ashenvale.
If implemented correctly i think it will recreate that Wild West feeling from Vanilla. For a (small) period of time nobody will know whats going on and it will be just pure chaos while people try to figure things out. The progressive level cap should help keep things from getting stale as the meta settles in then is hopefully turned on its head. One minute everyone is tank locks never dying in pvp while they nuke you from across the zone. The next moment it's a flood of paladins ripping and tearing with their improved retribution abilities.
Gear sets are definitely something i would like to see more of, especially if they mixed things up to give them more flavor. Perhaps there are some crafted sets that need raid drops for that final set bonus. Hopefully these runes are more secretive than just complete quest X or kill boss Y, imagine unique item interactions on hidden objects in the world. Kind of like that ancient tablet that drops in ZF that tells you about how to get the mallet to summon the secret boss.
I hope they are keeping some of the changes they made in SOM1 to keep the community from destroying itself as well as stepping up their moderation against bots and gold-buying.

They need to do a 1-60 tier set. at lvl 25 in the raid is when you start seeing the tier drops and then at 40-50-60 its the same set but updated ilvl. with same set bonus.

From what little knowledge I know of this new version of wow, there are some problems I see, mainly with class roles. I do t think o a lock or rouge should ever be able to tank, or a mage healer. ( I can understand those rolls in unique circumstances). I understand pallies and shams being able to tank unless both factions get them (Ie TBC). But what I want the most is dual spec. To me it’s the most important change needed.
Can't wait for this, after playing projrct ascension for year this is good move from blizz imagine they add dropping gear as well

I don't think there is really by playing the game. It is all pretty disjointed I think.

The level cap they are doing at 25 and that being a 'low level end game' actually was done before on a server called Revelation WoW which then shut down for one reason or another. They had/have super high ambitions(ORG/SW revamp, zone revamps etc) and the server was in the middle of being worked on and was kind of a mess at the time. It looks like they might be trying to reboot but /shrug. Anyways from the bit i played of it, they capped it at 20 or 25 and had the same idea of 'level banding' that Blizz is using. They had world bosses with custom gear. You could even play as a murloc and tuskarr, which was fun. SoD is going to basically be a beta testing version and people need to go into it realizing that because as they iterate SoD it just gives the higher potential of these iterations being part of a future classic + permanent server... who knows. People poo poo anything these days without trying it because well.. they're idiots. SoD looks fun and worth a try.

Yo nix got some things wrong, its tank rogue and healer mage, not the other way around. Also level 25 is not end game, there are other lvl brackets coming. Also there is no proof of players loving to summon the bosses in AV, most ppl hate it, especially due to having to play the long game for it which fucks u up if u are ranking etc (and I know most ppl prefer other bgs if they are not ranking)

Yeah... they literally lifted the rune concept from the Ascension's 1000+ Mystic Enchants with varied degrees of affect on on your character, ranging all the way up to new class archetypes such as dark ranger and shadowy vampiric healer. They even copied the idea of placing them on gear, which Ascension had until recently when they figured out that people hated that, and now offer a glyph UI for you to slot them into instead. This whole idea just screams Ascension (runes) + Chromiecraft (level locking). Despite what you may think, I desperately wish Blizzard would explore making content like this, and make it even better than private servers do. However, unless they take these ideas and run wild with them, and I mean REALLY give people new exciting ways to play rather than simply importing newer expansion skills, adding healing effects to basic skills to make them a "healer", and tweaking threat values to make a class a "tank", this is nothing more than a half-baked copy and paste with the intention of baiting people into subscribing for a little while. This clearly isn't Classic+, it's them testing the waters for "Seasonal League" game modes like OSRS does.

Let's hope Blizzard manages to take ideas from other games (servers in this case) and do it better.
Never heard of Classic Plus until today and I started in Vanilla.
I prefered getting the lvl 60 dungeon sets in vanilla. But having some leveling sets would be great.

I missed the classic launch in 2019 so SoD is the perfect opportunity to experience vanilla WoW with some quality of life changes. Very excited!
I'm excited for Ascension Lite
I always felt that Azeroth felt static, and lacked a dynamic feel of growing with the times. Until Cataclysm, the world was predictably familiar with events to give it some sizzle.
Having a home city that evolves with your contribution, rep grind, loyalty, time spent in said city, etc - would do WONDERS for keeping players in-game. As it stands, you use the home city that the current expansion makes popular for those at end game content.
For me, I’d love to see an expansion updated & modernized version of Thunder Bluff that has more Tauren lore to be learned in Mulgore. Make it a Tauren Ancestry Trait Quest Line that changes based on your class, but do it for every race.
Orcs were spoiled with Cata changing Org. Though one can argue that after this update to Org, many of the familiar towns leading to Durotar felt out dated and more of a museum gallery of old content compared to new content.
If the World Soul Saga is a reset (which I don’t think it will be), and Classic+(Season of Discovery, SoD) is one of many new content styles being introduced to the game - then let them operate separately but tie them in with Lore lessons in SoD that can be watched as cinematic in retail to new players.
I said all of that to circle back to what I like about this version of Classic+ that is coming.
Season of Discovery (SoD) provides an all new look at what Warcraft could be, after 20 years of experience and data analysis on what worked and what didn’t work in the original WoW.
It’s also new to everyone! Nobody but those working on SoD have seen what is coming, besides the Blizzcon bit. Whether you want to play Retail, or enjoy Classic, the game is offering yet ANOTHER way to keep them subscriptions coming back.
If I could have all my transmogs in classic plus season of discovery, count me in if they add playable Ogres.

I'm stoked , another dive into classic with a twist . They didn't reinvent the wheel they just added some tread to it , my favorite parts are the lvl cap delays ( i hope it's at least 2 months , giving us plenty of time to explore our zones and "discover " the goodies And pvp!!
looking forward to the lvl 40-50 lvls because in classic you did the grind hard in those lvls and hardly had time to enjoy the game .. ..
Enjoying a game as you lvl up vrs running to end game and hear people complain about everyone not knowing there class is gonna be great 😂

I think they should have two streams of WoW like Runescape does. One with retail and one if you developed from classic all over again.
the rune carving is like a system a privet server call ascension they had this 4 or 5 years ago it was not a good way to balance stuff so they dropped for a much better one that it 100% look like from that server
They have some cool ideas, but I really miss baseline/talent adjustments.
Mana/low dmg problems on meme specs, half-baked base abilities (wind wall totem) and talents.
Shamans can finally tank but have to take a rune despite having half a talent tree already built for tanking, it should not be required to rune for something you were originally built for.
Lightning Shield (a tanking skill) cannot work with Earth Shield/Water Shield, as a tanking Shaman with less mitigation than other tank classes *AND* mana problems, what's the big idea? If all shaman specs have mana issues, is Shamanistic Rage an option or is it a necessity?
Where's my 2h enhancement shaman going? Is this classic+ or classic-?
Instead of pissing of paladins and shamans by distributing their buffs across faction and making them mandatory runes for hunters, druids and paladins to take, just give horde (forsaken) dark paladins and alliance shamans (dwarves).
Merge crit/spellcrit, hit/spellhit, add general weapon skill on more items/more accessable, and put in a base ap scaling on magical sources of damage, like Serpent Sting, Poisons, Shaman spells etc.
Remove debuff limit.
Remove immunities on bosses
Take a careful look at pvp balance. Rogues are already op in pvp, do they need shadow step, frost shock and a ranged kidney?
Do frost mages need self healing capabilities?
Runes are a nice idea, but they should be optional, not mandatory.
The PVP similar to AV sounds great ! Don't give a FF about gear sets . Looks promising .

I started playing wow in beta and loved vanilla far more than any other expansion, I feel they should add this "plus" as an option on the side like wotlk, or cataclysm, I just recently came back to wow after like 7 years to see they had a classic version, now they are changing it again, vanilla/classic was is and always will be my favorite version, and it sucks now that I just found it, it's being changed again, I loved bc, but vanilla was my thing the game that got me hooked, just my opinion though
