A no nonsense tutorial, thumbs up. Another video recommended using a universal shallow 10mm socket to get those back pan bolts out. Gonna give it a shot in our '19 C7.
That was great - very straight forward. My local dealer just did a flush, and while I've never had a shudder issue, I did request the new fluid. They used the old fluid anyway...No harm done I presume. It was less expensive, but at $300+, still a good choice for the DIY.
Thank you for sharing and saving me and probably many other people hours of research.. Also appreciated the quality of the video and the fact you kept it within a timely manner.
OMG wow!!!! So I did things a bit different than I was planning. I bought two pumps from harbor freight for $8 each. Never pulled the pan (only 39k miles), pulled out 6 quarts of DIRTY fluid, I was surprised how dirty it was, nearly black. Then filled 6 clean quarts, then drained again after running the car 10 mins through gears, etc. I drained 4 different times and filled 4 times. Even on the last attempt the fluid was still far from new looking. But I decided to give it a drive, INSTANTLY the trans shifted smooth through all gears and the shudder was gone! I have been losing sleep over this for weeks. It wasn’t that hard to do at all even on a corvette where it’s much tighter working space. Not going to lie I was skeptical on this working. Before I had a hard shift into 5/6/7 gears and then a shudder after it was in those gears. Not it’s smooth shifting and shudder is gone. I pulled out 23 quarts total and put 23 clean quarts in. I estimate that the fluid is still only 75% fresh. My backup plan was if this didn’t fix it, I will drop the pan and change the filter and fill it once more. But I am feeling blessed that this did the trick! WOW thank god! The guy sold me the car knowing it had this problem, but clearly didn’t inform me. What a prick!
Thanks for a very informative video. Have to do that on my 2015 corvette before I start getting shudders. Will probably do it 3 times with Mobile 1 blue label to dilute the old fluid. GM sure is making owning their car very difficult. At least leave the dip stick. Nope, too easy for us. Leave room to remove the pan. Nope, too easy. Need to loosen the mount and push up the transmission. Oh well...
I’ve read others say that the dealer can reprogram the TC with some update? And then a garage relearn whatever that means? Have you any info on this TC update? My 16 A8 has a shudder on light throttle. 39k miles
Excellent DIY - I don't know about the size of the "catch" pan if you are doing this process in the "normal" dudes garage - what would the process be if you were asked to do it in your garage with jack stands - I'm sure there are many of us that would benefit from you doing this from that perspective. Thanks again, this was very informative!!! PAPA PERRY - RETIRED - 2016 Z06 with 13K miles - THANKS AGAIN!!!
Believe me Ive done my share of that. Ideally ramps in the front with a good wheel chock behind the front tires so it wont roll off. Jack up the rear from the subframe. Use a block of wood against the grain lift up and put 2 jack stands under the rear subframe to make the vehicle level. I use plywood pucks I made for lifting. Soft enough to not gouge the aluminum or even frame rail paint.
Recently my check engine light came on and the diagnosis was the code P0711 and P0700.I was wondering changing the transmission fluid will fix the issue. What is your recommendation. Thanks.
@@kRochi-bv2ue Yeah, I changed the lower harness that has the TFT sensor which means the transmission fluid and the filter would be changed in the process. Thats the only way to fix it. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Great well done tutorial. Thank you for this important info. Question..do you mind stating the mileage & how much metal on the magnets and your opinion of what you saw? My car has just over 11k and has had a shutter in third gear ever since the day I drove it home. My good friend is a GM Vet mechanic and says the torque converter needs replacing, of course GM declines. Your comment would be appreciated.
Thanks Same to you! Yes GM has a bulletin about switching fluids to this M1 stuff for the issue. I cant vouch for a "fluid fix" because we changed out the torque converter in this car after he blew up the torque tube. (345 toyo R888's and hard launches got to the rubber couplers) I dont recall the miles on this one I would say around 50-60k were on it. Some collection of fine metallic fuzz is normal as the metal parts inevitably wear. Maybe the size of a BB on the magnet.
Why is my 17 grand sport acting like its bumping back in gear when I come to a stop and hit the gas then bumps back in gear? It only does it if I hit the gas before coming to a complete stop.
I Would also like to know this, my SS A8 Camaro does the same thing. Did you ever find out why by chance? I plan to change the fluid on my car now to see if it helps. I've never had the shudder while I've owned the car though.@@jeffreyblanchard8151
Have you had any issues since you changed the fluid? I was getting ready to do this, I reached out to Mobile 1 to make sure I can do a partial drain and change filter. Replace old OEM ATF with the new Mobile 1 GM recommends. Hers what the engineer from Mobile 1 said: Since the Mobil 1 synthetic LV ATF HP and Corvette fluid are not tested for compatibility, we are not sure about the same. So its better not to mix both the oils, and a complete drain before refilling with fresh Mobil 1 is good. Regards, V. Raja Contractor Lubricants Technical Support Engineer
The only way to not mix any fluid types is to disassemble the trans, and clean every square inch of it as well as the lines with a solvent. If your unsure of this take it to the dealer and have them address the original issue for liability concerns. Ive not had any issues but theres no cheap way to test it. M1 doesnt want any liability. You could drain and fill 2 or more times to make sure you get 95% out of the system if you are a diy kinda fellow. Most of the dealer trans flush machines dilute more then they flush (via the pan fill port) but at least if you develop or continue to have issues its not on you. Good luck. This car drove pretty nice before and after this so I cant say its a miracle cure like some claim tbh. If you want to do the best proper flush make sure the trans flush machine plugs direct between the transmission lines. It can take 100% of the return fluid and inject 100% of the new fluid but it still mixes with the old in the pan / torque converter and the cycle repeats till you run out of fluid in the machine. Then it gets manually topped off to gm spec.
Great video! Thank you. How did you get the fill plug back in without burning your hands on the exhaust pipe? It seems to me that if you wait until the car cools the fluid will come out the fill hole since it was suspended while the engine was running.
Just gotta go for it carefully, It goes in easy with the plastic pin pulled up, the hard part is pressing the plastic pin back in. It pays to have a skilled hand its stupid I agree. Yes it would overflow when you turn it off. Ive also used a small curved pry tool to press the pin back down.

as many as you like, just run through the shifter positions and recheck as you go with a final at temp maybe start at 3 to 5. Some variations may vary on the total. This one in particular was a z51. I believe it took about 8.5 quarts in all
I built my c5 on jackstands in my garage, heads/cam/clutch etc. and thought it was easy. Kinda nervous about getting a c7 cause I'm a little out of the loop as far as gen5 LT goes. How much easier/harder is it to work on a c7 compared to a c5?
Very similar in construction but with a lot more components like coolers, lines, electronic boxes... they are nice tho. Some things are easier some harder
