    Day 3 on this program and already the instrument sounds louder, fuller, more resonant and feels more responsive. Even the dreaded low C on a German style F tuba is responding better and sounding better.

    I have made a commitment to do this program on the F tuba over the remainder of the COVID shutdown. I am a very good amateur, but am an engineering professor for my day job. What I am finding is that the first week of exercises is NO JOKE. I thought I was a more advanced player. WRONG. Doing this program has shown me how weak my facial muscles actually are and how dependent I am on the mouthpiece (AND POOR PLACEMENT!). I’m definitely taking this on as a challenge for May and I will tell you all about it in a month.
    Warren Deck once said that if you cannot play a sustained tone on every note of the horn with a great sound and play that pitch in tune, it could be argued that you cannot play your instrument.
    You are so spot on about all of these points and this program is incredible and systematic. One point I might suggest- tell players to rest as much as they play, at least at the beginning. This is like heavy duty weight training for the embouchure muscles. The stiffness I felt in my chops today was a very interesting feeling.

    Great video. When combined with some of your other videos, my sound and projection have really developed. With this exercise, I found that you can see the aperture in a mirror straight down the shank of a plastic mouthpiece but not metal. Really helps finding the correct mouthpiece position.

    Very good exercises I think lots of students will help to develop their tone quality because of it.
    My question is why do you press with two fingers on one valve, is this a natural thing you always had from the beginning?
    If it doesn't afflict your technic I wouldn't change it.

    Do you believe that this routine could be used as a decent high school student who already has a decent tone as to develop that even more profesional tone. From what it sounds like you don’t really need to have the airy sound to use this routine but anything can happen and it could be worst. Though I’m imagining I could use this even if I’m already halfway on track, would I be correct in that assumption?

    • @Matonizz

      It's not about the exercises, it's about the application and you can never get to strong with your embouchure or too big with your sound, so yes!

    Most of these videos seem to be based on the idea that I want to improve my tone after years of practice. Right now I'm just learning how to play at all.
    "Years of practice" comes later.

      As a highschool euph player, I think it's super important to start with good habits, and many of these exercises can he played, even as a beginner! I'd say go for it as soon as you can :) You'll sound much better down the line

    • @tungsten8290
      @tungsten8290 Год назад

      no, the years of practice start from the beginning. For the best results, starting with good habits is the way to go. Imagine learing how to play with poor mouthpiece placement, and then in five years trying to change that established habit.

      Hey @mrsharpie7899! I typically spend about 5-10minutes on each exercise. However, If you’re just starting I would spend a good 10-15 minutes because of development. I skip some of exercises in exercise 7 to save some time and I’ll practice those on alternating days. Roughly I spend 20-40 minutes on the whole week

      the only big difference is that the trombone doesn't have a gradual increase of tube width like the euphonium until a certain point. This makes the sound more brassy and less sweet toned than the euphonium, but there exercises will certainly help your tone no matter what low brass instrument you play
