Omg everything looked so good. We use to eat at a place called Morrisons cafeteria and it was similar to S & S. Thanks for the great review Dawn and Will.
Loved Morrison's! They used to be everywhere, especially in Florida. They then became Picadilly, and now, I don't think there are even any left. So sad.
What a cool review! I haven’t been to an S&S in ages…. Wow, I love the old school feel and the FOOD! Everything looked amazing, they always put the desserts first which I always loved. Awesome vlog👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh my ,, what a variety,, lots of food to choose from, it all looked so scrumptious.. your pie looked like a "melt in your mouth" pie 🥧. 🤗,, Thank you for sharing with us again..
I'm originally from Knoxville Tn, living in Chattanooga now. I can remember taking my mother there for lunch and the food was delicious. Everything was fresh and homemade and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Mama and I really loved breaking bread together at the S&S Cafeteria..what a memory! RIP Mama
Great video, my ind of place to dine. True cooking and service there. Will have to go there next vacation down to the smokey mountains. Thank you for sharing this Will and Dawn. William
This is awesome. I'd ate at the one in New Orleans many years ago. Of course it no longer exists. My Mom had to have her vegetables and I found S&S and on many vacations we would always eat here. Not many Cafeterias left on the road. I'll store this in my memory back. Thanks
Morrison's cafeteria came to mind when you walk along that long hallway with the windows looking into the restaurant. LOL! Just like a very beloved memories of the with way it use to be.. I miss that very much and some of the best food in the world.. You put on a tray. It's so much fun. Also brings back memories of school cafeteria. How they had some of the best food in school lunch rooms back in the 60's and 70's. We would get lunch just as good. They served hot lunches with a meat, vegetables and bread and dessert and milk. But get this we were given home made rolls everyday. One thing you would never see back then would be pizza for lunch. Every Friday we had fish...anyway. lol... and yes it is a treasures .
Awesome! Don’t see many cafeterias anymore! I used to goto a few in Florida back in the day. Wish I could have gone to an Automat but they were before my time. Really enjoyed this episode!
For anyone out of region that might be confused. Knoxville is only about 25 miles away from the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge area. Everyone locks in on the Smokey's, which to be fair makes sense. But it's all one greater metropolitan area. Knoxville is always right there, and has many things you may like to see. Or places to eat if you want to range a bit farther out.
Will & Dawn, your food looked so good! That brings back memories of when my Mom was the cook at Fillmore Elementary School and when I graduated High School I helped her serve. She was the cook for 20 or 30 some years until someone burned down the school on Aug 12,1990. Mom's cooking was the best and still is to this day. Really enjoyed your video.
Some good southern cookin’.. it all looked delicious! Growing up my sister (who currently lives in Maynardsville) and family lived in Knoxville in the Bearden area. As a kid I remember visiting Kaye’s Ice Cream, Orange Julius.. which had the best coneys and orange, and pineapple drinks, Blue Circle, Krystal Hamburger, Atlantic Mills Department Store, Cas Walkers Grocery store. Oh and the Smoky Mountain Market in the Maynardsville area.. which had the best hoagies! So many good childhood and adult memories! Thank you for sharing your videos visiting different establishments in the South! I have been to some of the places you all go to but I didn’t know about S&S Cafeteria.
I would love that place. It's just like the old MCL Cafateria that was in Richmond,Indiana. It's been closed for awhile...miss eating there. Thank you for showing the S&S.
Another good video guy’s 👍 thank you 🙏 I look forward to trying that place out the next time I’m in town. I look forward to seeing y’all’s next video! God Bless!
I haven't done a cafeteria in forever. I used to love going to K&W at Myrtle Beach after a few days of partying. It was the best recovery kick-starter.
S&S is wonderful brings back sooo many memories. Yum. Cranberry salad a must at family holidays . apple salad too with marshmallows and nuts. There chicken and dressing is great too. Ive never gotten anything at S&S i wasn't happy with. Here in Atlanta area.. Thanks for filming this wonderful restaurant.
Same my hometown Asheville has J&S Cafeteria. My family always all times go eat lunch and supper for holidays. My favorite best foods of country fried steak with mashed potatoes on gravy, Mac & cheese, green beans, cornbread and pie very delicious 🤤 😋 ❤ Very sad another J&S Cafeteria two places gone. Now left one J&S Cafeteria running business stay place. 🫶🏻
We stopped at S&S Cafeteria yesterday, on our way to Pigeon Forge. The food was all very good! If not for seeing your video, we would not have ever thought to stop here.
Wow, An old school cafeteria 🥰 You brought back my childhood 👍 I miss the A&G Cafeteria in New Orleans 😥 I shall try this place.😋 Thanks for making me young again for awhile ❤️
Ty very much..Will & Dawn.. We Really Appreciate & Love this video.. Our K&W & picadally..All shut down.. We were very 😢.. Now we have a Place to go Now...🙏💞😋
The Food looks delicious! If I went there, I would probably get the fried chicken, the Mac & Cheese and the Pecan Pie. I like the feeling this restaurant gives you as it brings about that childhood comfort, brings back a lot of memories!
We just lost a fantastic restaurant in Kingsport recently. Momas House buffet.Had been open for years.Sadly closed down. Great Southern cooking. S and S looks like a must do. Thanks guys.
Funny thing. I'm sitting here watching your review. I said to my husband I've never heard of an S&S. He then tells me that we have one right here in town. I've lived here for 5 years and didn't know I have one here until I watched your review. Go figure. Lol. Great review you guys. Have a good day.
You can't beat Good old southern cooking. The Mac and cheese really looked good. I saw pinto beans and black eyed peas, i would have gotten some of those, they are my favorite. . The pecan pie looked very good. Red Velvet cake is my favorite kind of cake. Are the prices marked on everything so you know how much each thing costs as you go through the line? We have eaten at a place like this called Morrisons Cafateria. Thanks for another great review.
There was 3 places where I grew up in Florida one of them being S&S and also Morrison’s and Piccadilly cafeteria all just about the same and pretty much same menu items but S&S was the best
S & S looks great! I would have never guessed that that was inside such a humble looking building. Can't always judge a book by it's cover...Next time we are in Knoxville, we will give it a shot!
I love places like this! We use to have a Piccadilly Cafeteria here in Chattanooga at Northgate Mall....but sadly it is gone now. Wish they would bring these places back! 🤔
The cafeteria resembles Piccadilly cafeteria in S. Louisiana. The food looks so delicious. I'm surprised Dawn didn't get green beans. Yes on the red velvet cake!
So glad y’all had a GREAT meal at the S&S cafeteria!!! I’ve eaten there many times on my way to Gatlinburg waay back in the 1960’s!!! It was really great then. Seems liked y’all “REALLY “ like it!!! So glad you did. There are so many places y’all go that just don’t work out for y’all! Y’all totally seemed to enjoy the place! For “OLD SCHOOL “ it is awesome! Maybe y’all should lean more towards these type of restaurants, y’all seemed very pleased with your experience…..and as we all know, y’all don’t fare well with some of the new trendy establishments. Jus sayn, to choose S&S over Greenbrier(which you didn’t say but, you did have complaints) speaks volumes!! Everything did look appetizing and fresh! @Ladynthboro hopefully you are having a wonderful day! First off, we didn't compare any of these restaurants second, we gave the Peddler and the Greenbrier a great reviews and we were very pleased with those restaurants. You must have got us confused with other vloggers lol. I know you've commented before that you do not like Dawn making faces when she tries food, and you don't like Will waring his hats Sorry we are going to disappoint you but that's not going to change. We think your family should take you out more often for dinner life's too short thanks so much Ladynthboro
I would need a bigger tray! Everything looked delicious. What a great place. I enjoy when you show us local places that are not chain restaurants. Great review. Cheers
The long hallways are typical of most older cafeteria's. We still have a few Picadilly's in the Baton Rouge area and a brand new one a few miles away in Denham Springs. No S&S, Morrison's or Luby's though. Bring on the fried catfish, mac & cheese, coleslaw, a large plate of Crawfish Etoufee' and strawberry pie😋. Use to cost $5, now, at least $25.😂 Bon Appetit!
I miss cafeterias - we do not have any around here in our part of Florida. Years ago we did have and S & S and we had a Morrison's cafeteria. Both were good.
Food looked really good. Haven't been to a cafeteria restaurant in a long time. Don't see many anymore. Would love to try it. Pecan pie is my favorite!
Wow I haven't been to one in about a year Went to One in Roanoke Va I think it's closed now but alot of great memories eating with family. That's looks so wonderful
So afraid these cafeterias will eventually disappear. If it were up to me they'd be on every street corner USA. Growing up, our lives centered around eating at Morrisons and Piccadilly (Florida). Long live the cafeteria !!
Well I’m from the younger generation so I would have been a bit lost on what I was supposed to do when I first walked in lol Definitely didn’t expect things to be priced individually; I thought it would be like a single buffet price. I like old school places though so this is interesting.
The first time we ever came here I was like a fish out of water I thought it was like an all you can eat it was a different experience altogether not too many of these places left it also reminds me of the old Kmart cafeterias
@@yankeeinthesouth Oh yeah you’re right, it is like the old Kmart cafeterias. I remember going to one when I was really young. Sure do miss nostalgic places like that
I haven’t been to an S&S cafeteria since I was 8 years old thanks for sharing this 👍 they don’t have them in Florida that I know of anymore but I remember the chicken pot pie was my favorite as a kid
It would be hard to pick out what to get, everything looked so good and I like everything they were serving. It looked like they gave decent portions also.
Thank ya’ll. Everything looked delicious! Love a good apple salad and some hot okra! We had a Morrisons Cafeteria it was okay. It’s been closed a long timex. Then we had Daisy’s, it was good for breakfast on the weekends or lunch/supper anytime. Their chicken was the best. Sadly Covid closed Daisys last year.
S&S cafeteria!! Yes we have 2 of them here in Macon Ga.S&S has been in Macon since before I was born in 1956.My mom worked at one downtown in the 40's!! My husband's favorite Southern cooking restaurant to go to!! This one yall went to looks like the one on Riverside Dr!!
We've got a similar place like that here called MCL Cafeteria, they have pretty good food there also and it's priced individually also. It all looked pretty good
Going on vacation in the South there used to be cafeterias in most towns. The thought was it would be cheaper than ordering dinner from a menu. After ordering individual food items the cost always was more. Still delicious.
Here in Columbia,S C we ate at S&S very often and took the grandsons too, it was always good and fresh. It has since closed. Your food looked really good.
Mmm looks so good. With exceptional of Pecan Pie. My mom used to bake many Pies and I never was a fan of PP Have you ever had the Choc Pie? I love CHOCOLATE. I was wondering if things were Ala carte
We had a cafeteria in our local mall where we enjoyed eating. Sadly, it closed down about 2 years ago. The macaroni and cheese at our local cafeteria looked just like what you had there. All of your food looked really good. I was usually too full for dessert so I would get a dessert then ask for a to go box when we were ready to leave.
I go there every so often. It’s a dying breed. Love it. Reminds me of the old cafeterias I grew up with.
So sad.
Yes not too many of these cafeteria styles left just a few scattered around the South
Yes! Morrison's ans S&S were very simular. I think S&S is based in Ashville,NC
