What is that off-beat, almost kick like sample? I've never been able to locate it on the Linn samples/EProms available online
@@FrankNFurter1000 I've always wondered too. Most people play it as a hi hat but it sounds like a pitched down kick with the low end taken out?
@@ttookkyyoo Yeah I went with the same when I covered it - pitch shift kick and EQ. I also created a similar sound using white noise, but if it is all Linn percussion then I think you are correct!

Thanks a lot, one of the most famous and beautiful Synthpop hits of my favorite period, 1983-1984. "Take On Me" was released in 1984, but the original version came from 1983. Almost 1:1 instrumental copy, thanks a lot, Mr. Million.
@Freline I am talking about another things. A-ha was started to perform "Take On Me" on their rehearsal, in autumn 1982. It was almost completely another song, with another title, lyrics and different music, in that time. Then they was perform this song in autumn 1983, for a public. As far as I understand, this was the version of this song, that we all know now, but may be a little bit different. But that time it wasn't a big hit. Later they perform this song in 1984 for a public again and it was a blast.

Авторов надо поддерживать, благодарить, за контент и их усилия, время, по его созданию. Отличный ребилд, чуть-чуть по иному звучит, но может лишь из-за отсутствия каких то эффектов, в целом это тот самый Take On Me. Мало кто делает подобное, да ещё на том, винтажном, реальном оборудовании.

I read somewhere that the melody was a stack of two or three synths, the juno being one of them. The original has something special about its sound that I've never heard a perfect copy of. Great cover as usual!
When MIDI was new I’m sure a lot of bands played multiple synths through one channel to get some crazy 9 oscillator sounds. It seems like people have forgotten about that aspect and only use MIDI now for timing and DAW sequencer control.
I guess they used a PPG Wave, a Juno and a DX7.
Juno 60 was main part of melody - but the other synths used on main melody have NEVER been 100% confirmed - although Yamaha DX7 and PPG wave were in the studio at time of recording.

In the music video you can clearly see they're using a Prophet 5 to play the synth lead. Why not use that synth to recreate the sound?
80s bands often used different gear in film clips. Pretty sure it was a Juno recorded in the studio.
