Truly shocking how the Russians are struggling without even the bare essentials! Meanwhile, here in sunny California, we’re living in a land of abundance-everything your heart desires is freely available. Just politely ask the shopkeeper to unlock the steel bars, and voilà, paradise is yours! Sure, most of the food only racks up a modest 30% interest on my credit card, but hey, I don’t have to pay in cash like those poor Russians. Sure, their groceries might cost a mere 20% of what I shell out at Walmart, but at least I have the privilege of stretching my payments out for months. After all, someone has to keep the bankers on Wall Street thriving, right? Priorities!

It's funny, but one-sided. Most likely, if you compare electricity, or heating, or a visit to the hairdresser using the same method in minutes of work, then an employee in Austria will work longer. Each country has its own consumption structure and comparing individual prices gives little.

Russell I think an idea for a video would be to compare the driving culture in Russia compared to the West. I have been going through quite the process to get my drivers license in Siberia. They are very strict on the rules here.
My wife is also going through the process right now. Taking lessons and doing the class work with a teacher. It would be a very hard video to make really. For expats there are programs where you can apply for a Russia license based on your visa type. Swapping it like for like.
@@TravellingwithRussell Maybe not focused on the the driving lessons, but I would love to see your perspective about what driving around in Russia is like in general. From what cars people drive, the cost of petrol, speed limits, etc. Things like that would be quite interesting.
Hi. Love the vids. I'm noticing a "trend" toward convenience, luxury, and "comfort". While there is nothing inherently wrong with those things, they should be limited to a small percentage of daily life. Russian society shouldn't live like people do here in the USA. Also, Russians shouldn't lose that "toughness, surviving, and making the most use of what is on hand" way that they are known for. It's virtue. Don't trade it for western "luxury".
I always believed that in America, convenience is synonymous with laziness. Did you know that in America, the younger generation gets about 25% of their meals delivered through apps from take out fast dinning restaurants, and that the prices for delivery are about twice the in restaurant price and triple to quadruple what it would cost to buy the food from the grocery store and prepare yourself. Pure laziness, and poor financial behaviours.
We have self service checkouts for everything at morrison's & tesco in the UK... and both those stores have the costa coffe machines (I'm not a big costa coffee fan myself)
@pavlamiddleton3574 In supermarkets have wall scanner like that would be great to confirm a price. I was trying to think If I had seen the magnifiers before. Thanks for confirming it.
Russell, 20 large eggs at my local butchers cost Euro. 5.00. They are even more expensive in the large supermarkets. approx Euro 1.40 more expensive than my local butcher. Thats the price of eggs in Ireland.
@@jerrylee4485 It is not necessary to compare wages and prices, but the amount of free money that remains after paying all taxes, insurance, housing fees and other mandatory payments
@riffraff6506 So, someone would open multiple stores all over the place, pay the rent, running costs, labour, etc., stock them up with lots of goods, including perishables, tying up working capital when no one is buying? Curious logic...
@TravellingwithRussell If our local stores were like this here the 15 minute city would just happen, no arguments. The variety of sausages and breads is staggering. The pricing to ensure that basics are affordable is, in my opinion, a good use of governmental control.
I really want to go to red square and to the GUM skating rink, but it's such a distance to travel there from Novosibirsk. I've been in Russia for about 4 months now, and Moscow seems so far away, but a place I am dying to visit. I work for S7 airlines too, so you would think I could easily have it arranged, but no time.
20:47 In German grocery stores there is maybe a coffee vendor after the check out, with cardboard cup, also drinkable soup and hot chocolate and creamy hot chocolate made from low fat milk.
Keeping staple food items at a low cost is a much better system than handing out money for people to use on food as the USA does. The people on government food aid end up eating junk or expensive stuff. I worked at Walmart in the USA, and the people on food aid took away large amounts of the most expensive food as they had other people paying for it through taxes, so they didn't care. The other problem is they trade food aid for cash or drugs.
