    Planning for a winter trek is exciting. In this video, Neha shares our top 6 winter treks in India that we recommend you choose from. Few of these winter treks are good for beginners. While five of these winter treks are in Uttarakhand, we also have one very special winter trek in West Bengal, on the India-Nepal border.
    Many trekkers wouldn't know this but apart from Kedarkantha and Chadar trek, there are some very exciting treks in winter.
    In this video, we are discussing some of the easy-moderate winter treks like Brahmatal, Dayara Bugyal, Kuari Pass, and Ali Bedni Bugyal and sharing why you should do it.

    I have been to Sandakphu trek two times( once upto Sandakphu and second time I treked to Phalut). Seeing the Sleeping Buddha infront of us is like blessings. It's a must have experience for you at least once in your life. Meadows, deep pyne forest, four tallest peaks, dancing of the clouds beneath, what else do you need?

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  Год назад +2

      Rightly said Nilu.
      Sandakphu is very close to our hearts as well. Tall mountains, Singhalila forest, sunrises and sunsets, local culture are few of the highlights, to do this trek for.
      We have tried to capture these essence in a video.
      To relive your Sandakphu moments you can watch the video here

    Hi Neha.. Hope you are well
    We are two first timers but considerably fit individuals and considering our first Himalayan Winter Trek. We are confused in between Dayara Bugyal and Kedarkantha. I admit Kedarkantha will offer that summitting sense of accomplishment while Dayara is like an amphitheatre with 270 degrees of the ranges while you walk in the meadows. Please let us know which will be more rewarding in terms of the scenery, vistas and the overall experience.

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  2 года назад

      Hi Shatwik,
      Kedarkantha is one of our most popular winter treks and it is perfect for beginners. It has a beautiful snow-covered landscape and an adventurous summit climb.
      indiahikes.com/kedarkantha-trek
      Kuari Pass is another great winter trek to experience snow and the mighty views. However, snow raises the difficulty of the trek by a notch. So, prepare well if you are going in winter.
      indiahikes.com/kuari-pass
      Deoriatal Chandrashila is the Best Winter Trek For Summit Views.
      indiahikes.com/deoriatal-chandrashila-trek
      All of these treks will have winter snow only from mid-December onwards. October and November are still autumn months, where winter snow has not yet set in.

    • @Indiahikes

      Hi Sukriti
      If you are doing it on your own, I would ask you to start from Manebhanjan. You will have the resources you need including forest permissions.
      With Dhotrey, you have the advantage that you avoid the motorable road to Tumling because you are walking through a forest. Rest of the trek is same.

    Lovely! Now I am confused between Dayara Bugyal, Deoriatal and Sandakphu. Does Sandakphu have snow?? In March?

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  3 года назад +1

      In March, it is almost the end of winter, so there will be little snow/snowfall on Sandakphu.
      For March, I would recommend Deoriatal Chandrashila. In March, you are in the winter-spring transition. So you will have a little bit of everything: snow, flowers and maybe green shoots. This kinda depends on your luck. Usually, the first winter snow is expected by this time of the year.. But there are times it comes a little later, in the third or fourth week. If you want a sure shot experience of snow, go in the third or fourth week of December.

    • @Indiahikes

      Yes, Nov first week is a good time to Sandakhphu trek. In the eastern Himalayas, snowfall happens in late January and February. So chances of snow in November is close to nil. But at the time it will be very cold and windy so make sure to carry enough warm layers.

      Hi Varun, most of these treks are beginner level treks but that doesn’t mean they aren’t adventurous. All of these treks go above 12,000 ft and that in itself is an adventure. That too when you trek during winter, navigating through thick layers of snow adds to it. Now, which is the best trek depends on what you are looking for in a trek. On a high adventure end, you can either go for Kuari Pass (Easy - Moderate | Level 3 ) or Sandakphu ( Moderate | Level 3). To understand what these levels mean, go through this article - indiahikes.com/difficulty-ratings-mean

      Both these treks cannot be done in winter. There is heavy snowfall in the region and the routes will be closed.
      You will not be able to trek on soft snow. The snow needs to pack and become firm to be able to trek. Another thing is that water freezes and there is no available source on trek.
      We do not run Darma Valey but we will run Pangarchulla next year. April is the only short window of time you can do Pangarchulla. Stay tuned for our dates here: indiahikes.com/pangarchulla/
