- Ascending the snowy mountain at the center of the Sinnoh region, you trip on a large, oblong object buried in the snow. Bending down to examine the object, your eyes widen as you realize what you've come across as you turn to your friend and say "is that.... an EWI (electric wind instrument)?"

I am so happy to be presenting you guys with this video today. Like, unbelievably happy! My original arrangement of the Mt. Coronet theme was completed nearly 5 years ago, uploaded on August 1st 2015. I was originally challenged by Sab Irene to arrange this song, and I took her up on it, finishing the original video in just a couple of days! This song was one of the most challenging I songs I had ever arranged, and to this day, it’s grown to be one of my favorite arrangements I’ve ever produced! I’ve wanted to play it with a live band for so long, and putting it together with the Sinnoh Fusion Ensemble was a bit difficult, but so rewarding!
This song isn’t easy at all. There are quite a few time signature changes, and a lot of really intricate and specific parts for each instrument. It took quite a few rehearsals to nail everything down quite how I liked it, but we got there in the end! The “chorus” that comes in at right around 1:15 is one of my favorite things I’ve ever arranged! The Dbma7 | Gmi7/D | Eb6 | C7/E chord progression there is one of my favorite chord progressions, as it’s very nicely voice-led, and it’s come to represent Sinnoh as a whole to me! I ended up using this chord progression in other tunes as an allusion to the Mt. Coronet theme (you’ll see these “other tunes” later!)
One of my biggest victories while arranging this song was figuring out that I could use the EWI to replace the synth bass part in the original at the 1:34 mark. I knew that EWI would be a great fit for the opening melody lines unison with the piano, so I planned to use it, going back and forth between it and the sax throughout the tune, but I hadn’t considered how effective the low range of the EWI would be at getting that sick synth bass sound. It’s also just quite surprising seeing a relatively small instrument generating such a deep low and big sound like that, but it makes sense! In the end, it’s a synthesizer. There’s also an added piano cadenza at about 3:17 to match the rubato piano arpeggio section in the original song, which I always felt a little bit bad about skipping over, very happy with the texture created by the violin harmonics and the wind chimes in the background!
Of course, I’ve got to mention the Lingus bit at 3:36. People at the live shows laugh every time they hear that, haha, I sort of meant it as a joke originally! The song / arrangement is definitely inspired quite a bit by Lingus (horn soli at the end of the song, half time dubstep beat in the drums, etc), so I thought it’d be funny to reference that one specific bit as a more specific jab!
I really hope you enjoy this remastering of my old arrangement of this tune!

Yeah it's lingus lol
Snarky puppy?
Edit: hell yeah
At 3:35? Lol
can we please get a spear pillar jazz arrangement
between the Vulf vibes on Green Hill Zone and the Snarky Puppy references here, you are combining all my favorite music with a Pokemon cherry on top
I could already see you making the soundtrack for the remakes ^^
I’d say this is gold, but in truth... it’s *Platinum*
@Tadhg Ferris Wayne the original pearls in comparison
lol
Who would have thought that a diamond and pearl necklace with platinum finish would be so valuable, huh?
@Tadhg Ferris Wayne Either that or a hidden gem? ;)

Carlos: ITS JUMPING TIME!

I made a mistake. I apologize. I didn't even play B&W, so I don't know how I made it. Regardless, I recognize my failings, and promise to improve my performance in the future.

That piano solo gives me more life than a revival herb
Jules Appel And unlike a revival herb it isn't bitter, it's sweet.
I LOVE this. I didn’t remember what Mt. Coronet’s theme was. But then this began and it hit me like I was a boulder in the way of a trainer using strength.
You never forget the song because of how effing long you spend in that damn mountain. Half the game is spent doing strength puzzles

I was gonna say the same, gives me snarky puppy vibes
does it make me edgy that I thought that (see list of elements below) BEFORE the signature groove were the Lingus reference? Then the groove kicked in and I was like "oh" that's why:

- Pocket horn soli to...
- duo bass + drum motifs into horns into
- full arrangement with semi-full horns, with occasional solo drum fills into...
- 4 on the floor into syncopated drums, bass, horns
i love this new studio and the help youre getting but sometimes i miss the 9 carloses performing at the same time
Whoever is training this team of pokèpeople learned that using the same pokèperson isn't very effective.
Sir Boring Name lmao
It was pretty amusing but his arrangements have gotten so fucking fantastic now that he doesn't have to limit himself to stuff he can play
@@Josbird It looked like he could play almost any instrument, though
@@martjankoedam2204 brass and violin are the big ones he can't from what I understand, and even if he could it's better to have a specialist of an instrument do a part imo, not to take anything away form my guy bcuz he's so amazing at what he does. But it's better imo to have specialists
Yes... more Pokéjazz... let it flow into my soul...
The YT algorithm literally recommended your original cover of this from 4 years ago 30 minutes before you uploaded this...
so I see you've cracked the code...

I personally believe the Year of Sinnoh is going to bring the remakes. Honestly, it makes me wish these covers could be in the remakes.... they’re so good!

I think this might just be the best arrangement you've ever done, and that's out of so many amazing tracks already. I know the games are Diamond and Pearl but the Year of Sinnoh has been nothing but Gold
Second time around? I’m getting some season 3 nostalgia...
1:34 Made me wanna cry out with laughter at 3:30 AM. There is just something about it that is just... amazing. You have the EWI itself, your jumping like a madman, and everyone else’s reactions and head bobs. All in all, great work!
Mah goodness, the drummer deserves way more attention, he kills it throughout the whole song!
That one guy that asked for this one in a comment earlier is happy now
Yes! This sounds great! I got the notification just as I beat Cynthia!
These remakes 😫❤️❤️❤️ Can we also talk about Carlos jamming out on the ewi
I had no idea that instrument was a thing, it's awesome!

This shizzle is chill. Gives me a playstation home feel
This is the first time I’ve heard someone mention PSHome in a positive memory
tbh those violins fit in real good lmao
I listened to your first cover so many times and the amount of improvement in your arranging is staggering.
This is shining like a pearl, the composition is brilliant like a Diamond and this legend should go platinum
Im going to have to cue up your sinnoh playlist with headphones whenever I play Gen 4 now
Erik Eastland I don’t care if it’s extra work but I want to play Carlos’ versions of the areas he’s done and replay Diamond with just his music
What a wild ride, this one is. That low EWI came and punched all the breath from my chest. And that piano solo, my god. The drummer really went all in on this one, such incredible rhythmic diversity. You lot are like a waterfall in slow motion, you can’t look away.
Carlos is just flexing the EWI
Ah, yes, this is how increasing madness in this never ending cave sounds like.
Who’s the girl on keys??? She was giving me some Glasper vibes, damn 🎹😎

that was a haha funny! :)
This is my favorite Pokemon track ever and everybody seem to always skip it. You guys are freaking amazing and thanks for the performance. Subscribing!
This is the absolute best thing I've ever heard. I didn't think you could top the original, but here we are.
At first, I was thinking: "I absolutely LOVE his original of this. It's one of my favorites. Why is he doing this?!" But now, I'm kicking myself for thinking that. THAT WAS AWESOME, DUDE. *WAY* better than the original (even though I still love that one.)
Hot DAMN that piano solo!
Edit: also the drums 6:25 and onward were so good
I've started making my own Multi-Track arrangements for myself and I've become to appreciate this channel WAAAAYYY more. SO. HARD. MAN.
Thanks for your hard work.
God this came out amazingly. Having a live band perform this intricate masterpiece gave me chills all around. Using the EWI really got me into the bass and it felt so good. I’m so excited to see what the rest of the year brings, keep it up!
aaaaaa Carlos my guy Mt. Coronet was one of my favourite tracks all the way back when I first played Gen 4. I actually first found your channel through your original Mt. Coronet cover if I'm remembering correctly, and it's probably my single favourite cover of yours. At least, it was until now because you definitely nailed it even harder this time! I'm generally a big fan of all your arrangements that you use your EWI in (Forward and Studiopolis Zone being prime examples), and I really feel like it adds a lot to this arrangement as well. Also, thanks for keeping the Lingus bit in this arrangement too, heh.
When I was a kid this theme creeped me out. Now it reminds me of mystery and wonder.
If I can call out something that’s specifically well done, the stereo audio panning in this video is just superb. Every instrument is it sitting in its own stereo space and feels like it’s in a very natural spot. In general, this whole thing is very well mixed, but the panning in particular stood out to me. As an audio engineer, kudos!
Also, this pulled my childhood out of the Center of my brain, slapped me across the face with it and then put it back, so... talk about nostalgia
Rearrangement after rearrangement, you're making me a happier person. Your channel is special, you are special!
For every new video you release, I say to myself, 'There is no way he can top the last video", and you continue to prove me wrong and I love it! :D
Diamond and Pearl is my favorite soundtrack of any game. I largely credit Sinnoh's soundtrack with shaping my musical taste. It is no understatement to say that each and every track you remix makes me incredibly happy.
This track is one of my favorites from the original. When I think of Mt. Coronet's theme, I see in my mind's eye a determined young Pokémon Trainer running up a mountain in a race against time. I can feel that energy from the original track shine through clearly; to me, that is the sign of a good arrangement. Excellent job, as always.
I look forward to what you have in store for the rest of the Year of Sinnoh. Personally, I'm really hoping to see another arrangement of Sunyshore City, but I'll be happy with anything in this soundtrack, honestly. Thanks again for all the work you put into these, for it does not go unappreciated by any means.
It gives me a snarky puppy vibe (Lingus especially ) , Love It!!
Broke: "It references Lingus!"
Woke: this whole arrangement is basically just Lingus
cant believe its already been two years since this masterpiece aired, still loving the old and new cover. ty again for all the covers carlos
You should honestly just have this group collab with you all the time! And I love this studio! This is amazing! Always love this group! Has some much flair and different individuals! Always loving the music! But I miss the Carlos clones...
I love going back and watching all the Sinnoh Fusion Ensamble videos, everyone looks like they're having a fucking blast and it really shows in the sound.
Great arrangement! That drummer absolutely kills it.
It’s just such a tight arrangement oh my gawd
I love how at the end Carlos is like "you should of seen the faces of us we were like ah and oh" and I was like me too man because that was awesome😂
This is so damn sick!
4:32 nearly killed me. Keep it up
that piano is incredible
I can’t get over the bass EWI, it works so well in the context!
im so mindblown by finding out that lofty pursuits used the older version of your jazz coronet for their pokeball candy video! the video started and i went "waaaait, i know this sax from somewhere...." and then they mentioned you and i had to come back here to listen to it again!
YES! Mt. Coronet more like Mt. Jazzynet
BTW gotta love that piano breakdown and spot on that drummer!
Whoa, Zame is here
I adore this ensemble so much. This whole project seems like an incredibly endearing experience to everyone involved, and it didn’t truly hit me till this cover.
Yoko's solo is out of this world
1:03 that sound reminds me of Aaron Parks and Mike Moreno, amazing
carlos help i can't stop listening :((( this is NUTS!!! so many clever variations! what a dynamic arrangement with INSANE talent, no pun intended hehe
can't believe how carlos arrangements are new excitements every COMPASS every time you hear it
Loved this at MagFest! Thank you so much for coming!!
I waited patiently till today to listen to this, both because I am off of work and it's my birthday.
Bravo. The piano solo is mesmerizing and the trumpets throughout are incredibly hype. I'm going to have to pour through the original OST now and guess what track may be coming next!
So inspiring to see how amazing musicians literally pouring their souls to make this.
I think your original cover of this was one of your first covers I remember hearing, and I still love it to this day. Now this... and it's incredible! So happy to be following you during the year of Sinnoh!
Also the subconscious expectation subversion while listening to this and being so used to the old version only for things to go differently was really fun haha
The game had so many good tracks, and you make them even better. Love your videos.
DID YOU SEE HOW HYPE CARLOS GOT HOLY SHIT THAT MAN JUMPED
YOU KEPT 1:34 MY FAVORITE PART THANK YOU :D
In all seriousness though, I'm so glad you kept the new arrangement closely to your original. If it ain't broken, no need to fix it! 👏🏻💯
The ewi suits the opening melody SO well, and ewi + violin is such a wonderful sound im really in love with how they were blending
It's incredible I have no words man
Played this to my magneton, now it's a magnezone! Great arrangement as usual, loving the new studio.
I could only imagine the satisfaction of revisiting something from 5 years ago to make it even greater! I've been listening to the original arrangement you did quite a bit, so listening to this one was very interesting. First the beginning has a lot more texture with the piano, violin, and EWI playing the melody in octaves. The muted trumpets also add a great touch to that part. Next, I would've never expected to hear the EWI playing the bass synth part, but it did not disappoint at all! I was here jumping in my chair like you while you were playing! I'm also really glad you added in that piano cadenza part because I feel like it adds a much smoother transition into the Lingus portion. We all can agree that the piano solo was amazing! And lastly the extended shout chorus at the end really opened up space for more expressiveness and shaping with the drums, and I'm sure the last chorus was especially good for the live performances to get the audience going. Great work, and can't wait to see what you do with Spear Pillar! (that first part of the description made my day)
Oh man, I really, really loved your original cover, can't believe it came out over 4 years ago... good job again!
Can't believe they decided to play this theme. Truly a madlad
Ahhhhhhh I fucking love it. Had me madly grinning ear to ear with that “1, 2, 3, 4!”
We very rarely get to hear the EWI used as the absolute phat bass beast it can be, so that breakdown was nice :)
Omg this is so smooth and delicious I am screaming! You guys absolutely rocked it!!
Okay, this might sound weird but I tried playing both this and the older version of Mt Coronet on this channel, on top of each other. And for the first minute...oh mi God; its pure gold...until they stop syncing up.
dawg. this is my favorite song from the game. and you nailed it
if heavy metal exists, this is heavy jazz
omg i’m actually super early!! carlos your vids make me insanely (lol) happy and inspire me to pursue music. keep up the amazing work dude, you’re killing it!
*that synth bassline on the middle, iconic*
1:40 Carlos having too much fun on that EWI
Love the subtle nod to snarky puppy
I love the intro to this tune, it’s probably one of my favorites :)
OH MY GOD I WAS LITERALLY THINKING ABOUT HOW BAD I WANTED THIS COVER JUST YESTERDAY
Can someone make a one hour version of this
This concept of a studio is working amazingly well keep going!
These people better get offered to help with the soundtrack in the Sinnoh remakes, which BETTER be coming eventually.
i really like the drummer, he has such a cool and stylish vibe, and you can see how much dedication and fun he has :)
SIMPLY AMAZING - every upload takes my breath away. I love the heavenly piano and how nice and together the horns and all that sound in the stabs!!! Also bruh everyone was jiiiiiiiving in this recording
Honestly, I think we need to give that drummer more recognition! That was great!
This is the perfect birthday present! Thank you Carlos!
Easily one of the most epic sessions in jazz in a long while
