    About 4 weeks ago I fell off my horse and on landing my knee buckled inward and I heard a pop/crack, I felt no pain until I tried to walk on it and when I went to walk my knee collapsed inwards again and it there was already swelling. I went to the doctors and 3 days later I had key hole surgery to remove the debris from the knee, the doctors say that I detached the ACL but there was still some holding onto the bone. I was told there is a 50/50 chance of my leg healing itself without the reconstruction surgery and that I could have a fully functioning leg and that it would just be weak/unstable, they said if I build up the strength in the other muscles around the knee, that may compensate for the weak ACL, they also said that if it gives me problems later on I may need the surgery. I work with horses as a profession and I am aspiring to become a young apprentice jockey so my legs are important to me. I would really appreciate some advice on the surgery, if I am given the chance to say no to the surgery as the doctors say I don't need it but can have it anyway, should I just say no? I understand that the surgery may be the best option, but the healing process is long, I've been told it can take from 6 months to a year and that length of time off isn't ideal and I wouldn't be using my leg for running and turning or pivoting motions. I would very much appreciate advice and feedback on what the best option would be.
    Thank you.

    it moves to the outside and sometimes all over the knee to the point where I can't walk on it for a day. I miss running and playing softball now. I had to quit because of the pains and afraid that my knee was going to give out bad. Help me please?

    IF you had a direct hit to the knee cap you could have subluxed it. MRI kind of rules this out but it still maybee the probelm. A good knee specialist should be able to figure this out. If not revisit the lumbopelvicfemoral complex. I would revisit there anyways, probably start there. I hope this helps. Look forward to hearing any updates.

    what if you had an operation and 3 months after you then put your foot down while having force pushing at it and felt more like a twisting sensation which then slightly swelled around your knee ? Because i was skating put my foot down while riding awkwardly and felt not a pop not a rip but a twist.

    Okay I hit my knee right at the pressure point playing catcher for softball by hitting the corner of home plate because it wasn't level with the ground. Went to physical therapy. Then I slipped and fell and hit the same place. Got an MRI said everything was normal but I didn't feel normal. I get clicking, creaking, rubbing and pain in my knee. I went to physical therapy again but didn't help AGAIN! Is this an ACL or a Meniscus tear? I tend to get pain on the insides but it moves to the outside

    I hyperextended my knee and heard a crack. My knee can't bend too far forward or back right now. Around a 30 degree angle is the best position for my knee right now. I don't have a ton of swelling, but it is definitely more than just puffy. Could I have torn my ACL when I hyperextended my knee?? Please help

    Please Help Me What should I do?
    Right Knee Joint MRI:
    Medial and lateral menisci have normal shape and signal intensities.
    There is subtle increased T2W & TRIM SI of ACL suspicious for sprain.
    PCL , MCL , LCL and patellar tendon appear normal.
    Visualized bones and muscles have normal signal intensities.
    There is extra-articular edema and moderate knee joint effusion

    If you haven't already I would start looking in other parts of the chain, primarily the lumbopelvicfemoral complex.
    The knee pain is usually caused by a rotational torque and originates from the most rotational joint not the least. Unfortunately the least rotational joint is typically most effected in terms of torques and pressure when movement is abnormal.
    I would also have someone further examine for patellofemoral instability. This is often missed.

    you are the only person i seen mentioning about the quadriceps muscle, i think its my only sign. mri scan shows fully torn acl but personally knee feels stable with limitation of fully straightening. anyways going for op soon

      +Performance Physical Therapist hi there, I did the op despite feeling stable on my part. and it is confirmed acl fully torn. now is 2-3 months post op, been only to physio for the first month. Hamstring feels tight and uncomfortable to straighten my leg. have been visiting traditional chinese sinseh to losen those muscles and it works for 1-2 weeks and after my leg will feel tight again.

    I twisted my knee playing football, there's never any kind of swelling but sometimes (when force applied) a popping sound is produced...... need sugestions?

    wow, great information, while playing basketball after jumping for a rebound I came down on someone's foot and my left knee buckled inward. I heard a popping sound simultaneously after. it was painful. I tried to walk it off but I couldn't. shortly then after it started to swell quickly and I couldn't put any weight on it. I couldn't walk for months. I never got it diagnosed but i had my suspicions that I damaged my ACL its been almost 2 years since it happened and whenever i would use stairs or walk sometimes it would feel wobbly. I would really appreciate your take on what you think it is.

    • @ArmadaRanger
      @ArmadaRanger 10 лет назад

      If it has been two years, you tore your acl without a doubt.

    • @th3_kragen214
      @th3_kragen214 10 лет назад

      That's what I feared thank you for the feed back, it makes a lot of sense. There were on a couple of occasions where that happens that same knee feels wobbly like it's going to give out, and I've fallen on my butt wondering why

    • @ArmadaRanger
      @ArmadaRanger 10 лет назад

      Dave Garcia Yes, definitely. Any injury that lasts more than a year is without a doubt a completely torn ligament, or a dislocated/broken tissue, bone, or cartilage. If it hasn't healed by now, you probably need surgery. It is nothing serious and you can take your time, but if you wish to keep doing sports, or running, or having a normal life, then you will need surgery. If you just want to walk normally for the rest of your life, then you don't need surgery, lol. Good luck, I also hurt my knee about a month ago.

      I've tried to look up the symptoms on my own but the symptoms between a complete tear, and having just a sprain are similar in a lot of ways, and I was hoping it wasn't a tear, but after I keep experiencing that wobbling feeling in that knee. And remember how long it took me to finally walk under my own power (6 months) I kind of knew already.

    Hey Sandy, I have been seeing these types of symptoms quite often lately. Clicking, creeping and rubbing are all mechanical terms. Means something is not moving correctly. It's difficult to diagnose a movement problem when we are trained to diagnose structural problems. These pain syndromes are real and they put immense pressure on our tissues and cause many different types of symtpoms with most of them resulting in pain.

    i think i may have torn my acl and i workout alot and when i do stuff like jogging and running and i do a sharp turn i get pain in my knee but when i do something like deadlifts i get no pain at all and i can still deadlift the same amount and the pain while running has decreased over time (Its been a few weeks) should i get it checked out or just let it heal whatever happend.

    • @bh1759
      @bh1759 9 лет назад +1

      If your ACL is torn and not repaired it may do more damage to your knee over the long term. Check it out with an orthopedic surgeon. They will do a drawer test and possibly an MRI to diagnose.
