Hi Abbe, I read something about "cheat streak days", but I don't understand how they work. I know it's not a good idea to cheat, but could you please explain in a few words how I can "take advantage" of those "cheat days"? By the way my experience after half a year practicing french is: Sometimes taking a little break is not that bad.
If that's not what you had in mind... I'm not sure I've heard of "cheat streak" days, but I do know about "cheat" days (mostly in the context of diets, but I guess it can work for any kind of habit). My best advice would be: 1. Instead of "cheating" and not practicing at all, switch up the type of activity you do so it feels like you're cheating but you're still getting important practice in. For example, if you're used to studying your flashcards every day, but you feel like you want a day off, watch a movie or TV show or read a magazine in your target language instead. It'll feel less like work, but still have a positive effect on your overall progress. 2. I agree, sometimes a little break isn't all bad, especially if you feel like you've hit a wall or aren't enjoying yourself anymore. That said, try not to "cheat" until you have at least a 30-day streak going (meaning that you've practiced for 30 days straight). That's about how long it takes to form a habit, so even if you take a day off, it'll be easier to make yourself get back to it after your short break than it would be if you took a day off after just 5 days. Hope this helps! ABBE
Actually I hoped the number of days you can set up in the Admin-Settings (from 1 to 7 days) would determine how long the accumulation of flashcards is beeing blocked. But that's just a guess.
