- Yashica Lynx 14e 35mm Rangefinder Review and Results - aka “The Angry Cyclops” , "The Low Light King"
The fastest fixed lens rangefinder ever made with a fantastic and breathtaking f1.4 lens.
This is a fantastic camera with a really fast lens and is built like a tank to make a package that really packs as much punch as cage fighter. The lens has been compared by some to a 50mm Leica Summilux , so it must be good ?
This is my best episode of Shutterjam yet (well at least I think so) , a lot of love , sweat and tears have gone into this production and you enjoy and like.
Please show some love if you did , by subscribing , sharing and liking the video. Much like a puppy dog I need constant attention and praise.
Thanks Dirk

That was my first camera back in 1975. It was awesome and I loved it. I can remember every little detail.
Glad I found your channel, this is a refreshing way to showcase cameras, good on you for doing it, all the best.
Way to go! You really showed us its low light capability.
Thanks for the great show..... very cool camera!
I lived in Australia as a kid........ beautiful country.
The accent and script im crying this is great
+Martin Lopez that's for watching you're far too kind.
Oh man. You are so goofy and I love it. The camera looks awesome as well.
I blame Top Gear for this.
But thanks for the information about the camera, mate.
+Tommy Chivers lol , I was aiming for Top Gear for cameras, but perhaps I'll dial it back slightly.
@@ShutterJam No no no never dial it back at all, your delivery is simply fantastic.
@@EnidAgnusDei thanks you're far too kind!
@@ShutterJam No just honest! too many boring old farts like me on here, never a good thing I can bore for Britain! Your approach, however, is frankly, unique. I do not understand why you don't have more subs, but glad I am one and found you! Keep up the very good work.
love the content and your way of presenting it.
Thanks for posting this!
I found my Grandpa's when he was stationed in Korea during Vietnam. How can I tell if it would still work. (I don't think it is in good condition)
Good stuff man. Subscribed.
358 subscribers now including me. :) Keep up the good stuff!
Awesome thanks for being #358!
i took great night shots by just sitting it down on a bench and with a slow shutter speed + self-timer
Just got one at an Estate sale for $5 seems to be fully functioning and clean.
Wow, that's a fantastic find! Happy shooting with it.
Idont understand you said you didnt test the camera....so what about the photos at the end?
Apologies I was probably mumbling. I didn't test the light meter on the camera as I didn't have a suitable battery so I used a handheld light meter instead.
Really nice review!!! which one would you choose between this one and a Konica auto s2 in terms of lens sharpness? Thanks in advance!
I've never shot with a Konica S2 but it does have a reputation as being a camera with a really sharp lens. When I compare images on flickr between the two then it's really splitting hairs so I would say it's rather subjective as to which one is sharper. To me, the Lynx is better overall because it offers something unique in having the faster f1.4 lens and perhaps I'm just a bit biased because I own one.
is it possible to find those batteries nowadays? i have that yashica, but i am not sure it works without batteries.. i think i should try, or read the manual first..
+galazhar camera works without batteries. It's only for the light meter. You can't buy the exact battery's but you can buy alternative batteries that may work. Do a quick Google and there's a few forum posts that discuss it.
okayyyy.. so, i have to work hard with the light meter.. hehhe thanks
1.5 V batteries are fine, the camera uses a Wheatstone Bridge circuit [I think] PX640A
Mine will not wrap the film at all. The guy at the thrift shop told me it was because it didnt have batteries. From my understanding, the batteries are for the exposure, right? So is he lying to me or not? I dont know anything about vintage cameras.
No batteries needed to load film. If you've not loaded a manual film camera before then check out the manual(www.butkus.org/chinon/yashica/yashica_lynx-14e/yashica_lynx-14e.htm) or do a search on youtube as it's the same as pretty much all film cameras.
If your camera is in working order then the take-up spool and sprocket should move when you wind the camera on; you can easily check this with the back open. You should be able to wind the camera on and then fire the shutter.
Great pics! How did you scan the negatives -- they look awesome!
In the past I've tried lots of different things but I've never found anything that I've been happy with to be honest. I also found scanning negatives is very time consuming so I bit the bullet and got them scanned by the developer. Now I'm finally happy with the results.
@@ShutterJam -- I have my film developed by The Darkroom (California, US -- I live on the other coast of the US, so I do spend time waiting for the film to get to the developer through the mail) and use their highest-res scans (4492×6774) and I am usually satisfied -- but sometimes there are marks in the scans (but not on the negatives) and sometimes when i zoom way in on the scans they definitely look lower res than I am paying for. So I pay close attention to folks (like you) where the scans look great -- and yours really do.
What kind of battery do u use for this camera?
A battery is only required for the light meter. I don't think I've ever used the light meter so didn't bother testing it.. The original battery was a mercury PX640A. You can find alkaline version of this battery on Amazon. The new version of the battery has a higher voltage and as result your light readings might be slightly off.
@@ShutterJam Hi, how are you? Will you have a link where to buy the battery?, thanks for the vid :)
@@checoyamanaka7273 On Amazon however I expect you'll be able to find elsewhere. You'll need 2 batteries if I recall correctly. www.amazon.com/dp/B0054LIIM2/
