I tried this late last night after viewing your video, and I'm in love with this process! I love the look of it, like the flowers are behind a thin veil. And it was so easy! I mean, I did fumble about a little because the flowers and leaves are so delicate, but all in all, anyone can do this. I tried the tissue paper layer as someone below suggested, but it was very difficult. I do like how it turned out, though, but the deli paper was a lot easier to work with. I have tons of pressed flowers my daughter has done, and now we have a beautiful way to use them. Thank you!
Thank you for your lovely comment. I’m so glad you’ve tried it and had success with this method. Its a wonderful way to preserve delicate flowers and leaves 🌺🌸🍁🍂🌿🍂🍁
I love this! It just gave me the perfect idea for a gift for my dad; his dog passed away about 6 months ago which he struggles with every day, but the vet gave him seeds to plant in her honor. They turned into pretty, blue flowers. He’s a reader (he reads many hours per day) so I’m going to take one of the blue flowers and make a bookmark out of it for him. I used to make him those as a child but this one will be extra special. Thank u so much for sharing because this will definitely be a project that brings my dad some joy again :)
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia he still has the bookmark I made him as a little girl and uses it so this one will be extra special. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
So lovely! I wouldn't have thought to use deli paper. My grandmother taught me how to do this with tissues. Take a tissue (not tissue paper) and make it single ply. Using 1 part Elmers glue and 1 part water, glue the flower between the card and the tissue. The tissue will wrinkle in a lovely manner. I sometimes add extra wrinkles by pouncing the glue gently on the flower side of the tissue. If you tear the tissue instead of cutting it, you can get a nice deckled edge. I've made invitations and thank you notes this way. Sometimes I add irredesent medium to the glue mixture to add some subtle sparkle. I hope you try this. I have friends that have saved the cards I gave them for years.
Dianne Blake, My mother taught me how to do this when I was a child. We would put waxed paper down, place the flowers on top of the waxed paper and place the tissue (dry) over this. Then, we would carefully "paint" on the glue. You can use fine glitter too!
+Janet Harvey Haha! I was so thrilled will how these looked once they’d been covered with the deli paper. They just look so beautiful. I’ve spent hours collecting and drying more to preserve. Love them xxx
I make cards and bookmarks with pressed flowers and just brush Mod Podge over the flowers and card to seal them. You do have to be sure to make all the brush strokes in the same direction because depending on the angle of the light they can be seen, but I like that look. However, I will try this method since it will be a different look. Thanks for your video, the cards are lovely ❤️
Hi Nina, these are lovely. Have you ever tried Flower Pounding? I googled it and here on U-tube there is not much. But I took a class a few Saturdays ago and we pounded fresh flowers on to cotton fabric. Since I am a paper artist I wanted to use paper. So when I got home I did it on water color paper. Turned out beautiful!!!! So here is what you do to get a good print. You use fresh flowers and flat ones work better. Cut the stem off and lay the flower upside down on to your watercolor paper. Lay a piece of deli paper over the top. Take a rubber mallet or hammer and pound the flower into the paper. It takes a bit of pratice to learn how not to pound to hard or to soft to get it right. But you can peek by lifting a corner of the deli paper to see how you are doing. You can layer the flowers and also pound leaves and ferns ect. When you are done seal it with some mat medium.
The mind spins with all the ideas! Painting the watercolor paper first, making bookmarks, card sets! I kept picturing myself trying this with a giant Palm frond from one of the trees here! 😃 But I can't wait to do with some hibiscus flowers and more. Another inspired idea Nina
+Leslie Clare's Creations I will be trying it with some of the wonderful flowers in Spain when we are there next year. We have hibiscus in the garden there!
Love love love this idea!! I have had dried flowers and leaves saved for years just waiting for a great way to use them. Now I have it! Thank you so much. I wish it hadn't taken me 5 years to find it.
Oh yes, we definitely like what you are doing. I have used napkins before and it works fairly the same way. This is a beautiful organic project. Thanks for showing your excitement and enthusiasm. -Marsha from Texas

I, too, love iced spruce. It's perfect for doing the edges of paper. I've gotten tired of vintage photo etc. Thank you for the vid. I always learn tons from you.
Nina this is brilliant. I have some dried flowers still in the books I put them in a year ago. Now I know exactly how to use them. Thank you for a lovely video and always wonderful listening to you.
Love the natural look and feel of these sweet cards... And... Now I have yet another use for my huge box of deli paper that I too purchased for use with the gelli plates ( which... I still want to play with!)... TFS
I love your enthusiasm for your art. Your plant projects are lovely. I "Mod Podge'd" a branch of goldenrod into a travel journal last year. It took some patience to get it to adhere, because the stem is quite wiry, but it worked. It's so good to see I'm not alone in loving having real flowers in my art work.
I love your excitement in this video Nina. Thanks for sharing. I used to press flowers with my grandmother in old books. I hadn't thought about that in ages. I always loved the results. I'll be doing something similar. What a great idea to add to a garden journal I've been wanting to make. TFS!

Great idea. Another suggestion would be to add a layer of Mod Podge on top of the finished item too, like in decoupage. It will make the paper layer over the flower appear more translucent.
Thank you for a wonderful video! I tried this today and it went well. Had to use tracing paper because I didn't have the Deli paper. I also used a very fine netting (tulle) which worked very well! It gave such a clear image. The glue does come through a bit so you have to keep that in mind until it dries. I also have a process where I put down wax paper, then the dried flowers and then a tissue over the flowers. Carefully 'paint' the glue on to the tissue. ( I think it is one part glue/one part water) I've been doing this method for years since that is how my mother taught me to do this process. You can then cut the wax paper to fit your card ( when dry) and insert a card under the wax paper/dried flower/tissue piece. I hope this is clear!
