    As always very useful information, if I get a chance I’ll post a pic of my sprayer I used 30 years ago called a Binks Super Bee, and a Binks model 700 gun with adjustable tips, on your FB page, believe it or not after about 20 years sitting in my shed I got it out and fired it up to spray my mothers house and it still worked ! All I had to do is replace the hose and gun, and become educated on the new tips which is how I found you last year so thank you !

    Chris & John, thank you for sharing all of these videos. They are super helpful to me as a DIY'er! Wish I had these videos back in college when I was doing some commercial painting as a summer job!
    I'm planning to use an airless sprayer to paint some exterior doors this weekend. My sprayer came with a 515 tip. Would that work, or do I need to spend the extra $$ to get a 310 like you say you use?
    Also, should I expect to need multiple coats, or just one, if I'm using a sprayer?
    Thanks again!

      @@Idahopainter you state that you don't really use 0.17 orifice and prefer 515 for spraying interior. However, does the manufacturers recommendation matter? Such as manufacturer document recommends orifice between 0.17-0.19. Is it necessary to follow recommendation or is it just technique over spec recommendation?

    I use Sherwin-Williams oil based promar 200 on all of the doors, baseboards, and trim. It calls for a .015-.017 @ 2000. I have always used .515 racx and had pretty good results but recently started getting into the fflp tips. The .314 runs it ok it just takes a bit longer. A question about spray hose.. For my opinion original hoses which comes with sprayers are quite hard and has bending memory.. So I thought what if I would change it with professional high water pressure hose, its not cheap but its much softer, less bending memory.. its much easier to work with... If its holds high pressure from professional water pressure machines should fit for paints too, the dimensions are quite similar i think.. Please, share your opinion :)

    I wonder if you guys can help me with a question, I am planning to spray ecobond that recommends a .017-31 size tip. My airless Graco claims to not support that tip size. do I thin the paint or go with the larger tip?

  • @kevinJmadsen
    @kevinJmadsen 2 года назад +2

    I bought an FFLP 310 based on this video (they said they used it for trim and gutters) but there was Zero chance Behr Ultra latex would go through that tip. Apparently FFLP tips are intended for lower viscosity paints. I'll be getting a 315 or 317 for the eaves, and not FFLP. Perhaps more expensive latex will spray thru a FFLP 310. Also, in all the videos I missed any emphasis on approximate torque to apply or actual torque specs. I ended up not tightening the whip to hose tight enough and it started to leak after a short time, pressure cutting both hose fittings, ruining both hoses :( That won't happen again, though I might over torque.

      Did you use the LP 315? I was planning on using Ben Moore Aura. They recommend a .15 but specifically say don’t thin the paint more than 8oz per gallon. It’s still very thick.

    • @kevinJmadsen
      @kevinJmadsen 2 года назад

      @@r.guardia9107 i was new to airless, so after further research i determined that the FFLP310 was really only intended for oil based paints and stains, IDK but i bought a normal 315 and had no more issues. I was also told I shouldn't have to thin latex paints at all, IDK But that Behr Ultra was not going through that FFLP310. Of course the paint can label also specified at least a .015 tip.

    • @brandonpratt5130
      @brandonpratt5130 6 лет назад

      Steve Grossman check the product data sheet.
      The pds will have a recommended top size and pressure needed to get good atomization. Also sometimes thinning the paint is the best thing to do, it helps the pump atomize with lower pressure which equals less overspray and should get the same coverage as long as you don't overthink the paint or use the wrong thinner

      Ricky Pagan I like the titan rx pro for the simple fact that it has interchangeable grips for different size hands and also comes with a 2 finger trigger as well as 4. I bought a graco x19 pump that came with a contractor gun and bought the titan rx pro immediately and never used the contractor series gun

    At 6:58 when John talks about tip orifice size, the relationship of orifice diameter and spray volume is not linear. A .019 tip has a surface area that is 3.6x that of the surface area of a .010 tip. (rather than almost double)

      DeMatos Cris Borth very good sprayers I have a Graco 490 amd 595 i like them both very much to me it’s a matter of zur deal if Graco is same as Titan i go for the Graco but if you can get a 440 titan for a sweeter deal then the Graco 490 I would Take the titan...

      It's not so simple. One brand of pump may be more field-serviceable than another brand. One brand of gun may feel better in your hand than another. You may find one brand of tips more useful to you than another.

      Main reason I dislike painting new construction is the drywall dust. No matter how much you clean it seems to always be there.

      Lots of touch ups, and other trades banging door frames with ladders. Plus, the gc's expect you to paint a whole house in a day. Lots of competition on pricing.
