IOTA TALK: Responding to Suffering by Causing Death: Medical Aid in Dying | Ana S. Iltis

Many countries and jurisdictions in Europe and North America have legalized some form of medical aid in dying, such physician assisted suicide or euthanasia. Some people argue that in order to help patients avoid pain and suffering and to help patients maintain their dignity, patients have a right to end their lives with medical assistance. This presentation explores medical aid in dying from an Orthodox Christian perspective. It illustrates why Orthodox Christians reject medical aid in dying and offers an alternative understanding of the Christian response to pain and suffering near the end of life.
