    sage advice on the wide-angle lens front 🙂
    I like shooting vistas at 50mm, seeing what the eye sees or thereabouts.

    • @AndyBanner
      @AndyBanner  4 месяца назад

      At 50mm it's almost a case of capturing what the eye (or camera) cannot see... I guess a lot of it is down to what kind of landscape you have - flat horizons like here at the coast and you have to be damn good to make a decent image.

    I notice many of your shots are square format. Are you cropping in camera or post? Just courious.

      Nice being near the coast. I live on the cliffs and have a sea squint though the hedge but like so many of us in wonderful places, we don't always visit as often as we should. A 5 minute walk and I am on the beach, yet I rarely go. As for ratio - sometimes I set the camera to a different ratio, sometimes not. I don't always pre-visualise properly and end up with too much empty space and crop in post.
      If I ever head back to South Wales, I will be sure to let you know. Thanks.

    Andy, I am considering changing systems. I would like to get started with a good lens for landscape first vice getting a kit lens then adding extras lens to do what I really would like. Which is the lens you use to get your shots that also do macro in addition to telephoto? I love you pictures that you get without seeming to be changing lens all the time. Maybe when you show you pictures you could put the zoom, aperture and speed and ISO. to a beginner like myself that would be helpful. Thank you.

    • @AndyBanner
      @AndyBanner  4 месяца назад +1

      Micheal, the image stats won't help you as much as you think. For instance, distance to subject is as much a determining factor for depth of field as lens and aperture. I stopped putting this data on videos long ago as it isn't very useful and adds a huge additional burden on video production for me.
      If you're a beginner, my advise on changing gear is simple. Unless yours is broken, don't spend money until you're more proficient in your photography because I can guarantee that different gear will not improve your photography - it will just empty your bank account.

      @@AndyBanner maybe instead I’ll invest in a better tripod. The one I have is for a point and shoot camera and I’m not sure it’s safe for that. Yours looks useful and is not outrageous expensive (I looked it up).

    • @AndyBanner
      @AndyBanner  4 месяца назад

      The K&F one I have is pretty good. Review here: ruclips.net/video/N-IiwqOz7FA/видео.html affiliate links in the description of the video.
      I also have the new Freewell Carbon Fibre tripod that's so light you barely know you have it. Review in a few weeks. It's very good. I probably have a code and affiliate links for that too if you're interested.
      BUT, before you spend any money, think carefully. A tripod will potentially help you take better photos for a number of reasons, but it can also be a real hindrance too. Happy to discuss this more with you if you wish. Send me an email.

    Nice cockles. Edible? The comet looks better in color, IMHO. The pano looks great in color too. I do like the simplicity of all the sand still life shots you have shown. They are really pleasant and pleasing.

    • @AndyBanner
      @AndyBanner  4 месяца назад

      Yes, Stewkey Blues are wonderfully edible cockles - they are mostly found in the sands and mud around Stifkey where they take on the blue colour from the muds and clays of the area. A local delight.
      The comet was one of those images that I edited to Mono one day and then revisited the next asking "what the bloody hell were you thinking?" I included it to get some clarity of mind I think!

The rock and rivulet in your image looked like a sperm cell, or a flagellated organism-reminiscent of our primordial past. • @AndyBanner
      @AndyBanner  4 месяца назад +2

      For myriad reasons. Stripping away colour helps simplify images. Black and white photography is a distinct skill that helps you see things differently. It forces you to look at light and shade and consider the complexity of a image, it has the power of nostalgia, the strength of simplification, the addition of drama, of feeling. It is wonderful. You should embrace it.
