I'm not sure if it hurts the transducer or tank or not. I have tried it both ways (directly sitting the pail in the tank and sitting it on the rack) and can't tell much difference. I have read that it isn't good for the tank or transducer in various online forums but I usually don't us the plastic rack and my cleaner is still working just fine and I've had it a few years now. I'd say to be on the safe side, use the rack. I would think that a plastic container like the ice cream pail shouldn't do any damage. A glass or metal container possibly could. I'm going to pin your comment to the top of the list because that is something that others should research themselves and at least be aware of. Thanks for the comment 👍
Nice video. That reel was already clean to me. Freshwater fishermen would freak out if that saw what my reel parts look like after beach and offshore fishing and before they are cleaned.
I bet haha! It wasn't dirty, just using it for demonstration purposes and because I hadn't gone through it. I buy a lot of used reels and usually clean and lube them so I know what is going on with them. I paid less than a dollar for that one, it is amazing what you can find out there for very little money. Fish don't care how much your reels cost LOL!
Use to, we used Varsol in an ultrasonic cleaner for reel cleaning. Can't find it anymore so I substitute mineral spirits or charcoal starter fluid. It will cut the grease! Use a sub tank with the strainer like the vid shows. Empty margarine tubs work well.......they have containment lids.
I like Harbor Freight for a lot of things and I have also picked up some really bad stuff from there too. This is definitely one of the better things I have bought from HF. I have used it many times and it works just as well as it did when I bought it. The reel didn't take too long to put back together but I have done a LOT of spinning reels. Thanks for watching!
Dude!!!.... You've got that real cleaning down man!!! I always use a toothbrush to clean all my Abu ambassadeurs when I take them apart. But now I think I'm going to do it this way!! I've always wanted to get one of those ultrasonic cleaners. And I would have never thought of that little ball strainer LOL!!! I really loved this video buddy great job!!👍👍👍👍
Nice Video! The large bubbles in any solution is a normal action which is called "Degassing" . Large bubbles are negative to cleaning. If you run the machine and shut it off for a few cycles the excess air in the solution will be removed. Many machine have a degassing cycle when a new solution is added. You should see no bubbles in a degassed solution only "clouds of minute bubbles and debris. It makes a huge difference! Again very nice video without the excess mind numbing " I wish I had the last 5 minutes of my life back". Good job.
I did not know that. I will have to read up on that some, thanks for pointing that information out! Here is some more information about degassing for anyone who may be interested in reading more about it and how to do it: www.sonicsonline.com/blogs/ultrasonic-cleaners-and-how-to-use-them/how-to-degas-ultrasonic-cleaners Thanks again!
Thanks Bill! I have thought about it. I may do that in the future. I've also thought about anodizing and powder coating...may get to one of the 3 eventually!
Fortunately for me, I don't have one of them pesky wife things that tells you what you can and can't have. :P Got two ex's, they taught me I'm better off staying a bachelor. I'm too ornery for any of them to put up with for long.
Nice! Of course, your cat could do the final cleaning with a few licks!! Question - which side of the bearing lubrication discussion do you come down on? Do you recommend putting oil in the cleaned bearings or grease? My 20% off coupon is in my wallet and I am going to pick up one of these before I start doing the winter cleaning on my reels! Thanks
I really appreciate you watching and commenting! On the grease vs oil thing, that is a personal opinion as far as I have been able to figure. I use Super Lube Synthetic Oil in my bearings but I only fish in freshwater and I don't mind taking reels apart for relube every year or two. I like how easily the bearings spin with just oil. If I fished in a lot of saltwater situations I think I would use a good synthetic grease (I use the Super Lube Synthetic Grease). The grease does a better job of preventing water from getting into the bearings. Because of how quickly saltwater speeds up the corrosion process, I would try to prevent that as much as possible. You may want to check your bearings with a magnet. That will give you a good idea of how much iron content is in your bearings. All of the bearings I have run across are high in iron content and magnets will stick to them readily. The iron is the what corrodes so easily. I suspect the use of low grade stainless steel in bearings is because it is actually harder because of the iron, so the bearings wear better. I know you fish in saltwater, if I were you I would pack the bearings with grease. That is my 2¢ on the subject 😁 I hope that helps, tight lines!
I'm not sure what the water temperature is. The heater is either on or off and not adjustable. I usually let it run for about 10 minutes and check the parts. If they are not clean enough, I move them around a little and run another cycle.
Water in the cleaner tank then I used equal parts Dawn Dish Detergent and Vinegar as a cleaning solution in the container the parts were cleaned in. I then added water to the Dawn and Vinegar to fill the container about 3/4 of the way.
not if sure sitting the pail directly on the bottom of the tank / on top of the transducer and heater helps/hurts things or not

That was pretty cool I've never seen a machine like that before. That's a great way to clean fishing gear! Awesome video!
Thanks Josh!

Naptha is a good degreaser that I use quite a bit. Works good and is easy on paint.
Harbor Freight is amazing for tools like that. Must have taken awhile to reassemble that reel. Good video!

Thank you, and you will find a lot of other things it is handy for cleaning. Toothbrush works but this is a little less trouble in my opinion.
I have the same cleaner!💯it cleans thoroughly!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
They do a great job, I agree 100%!
Nice vid. Nice editing. Awesome idea to use the container within a container. TY.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it!
Great video, TFH. I have a smaller ultrasonic bath than yours but I do find it useful for this kind of cleaning.
They really save some effort! Thanks for watching Dave!
And I appreciated you going a bit George Lucas there with the speeded up section !

Awesome video the cat thing totally cracked me up
Haha, thanks!
That's pretty cool! Great video!
Thanks!
Good video as usual. Great tip on the Blue Bunny bucket ! Ever thought about custom painting an old reel? That would be a good video to see i think.
Thanks Bill! I have thought about it. I may do that in the future. I've also thought about anodizing and powder coating...may get to one of the 3 eventually!
Great Video, is it safe to degrease bearings?
I don't normally use this ultrasonic cleaner for bearing degreasing. I usually soak them in a jar with solvent.
That's really cool!
Get you one and tell the wife how great they are for cleaning jewelry 😂
Instant purchase permission

Love harbor freight!!!! Liked and subbed great video!
+Catfish Militia thanks!

What's your time and temperature?

Can anyone tell me what liquid did he put into the Ultrasonic cleaner?
