That fucking snake. It was pretty much unbeatable at that time in the game, you had to use a chocobo or have perfect timing to cross the marsh on foot to avoid it. It was _unsettling_ when you find one IMPALED ON A GODDAMN TREE. They really knew how to build *Sephorith* up.
Hell, Beta (its killer technique) is so crazy that even when it's pretty much a guaranteed win when you're at level 70, you need to kill it before it gets off a Beta because it's SO POWERFUL
Funny story, actually. My first time playing through the game, something was wrong with either my disc or my Playstation, but whenever I tried entering a town on the world map (Kalm, Chocobo Ranch, or even going back to Midgar), my game would freeze. I was so desperate to still play the game, I spent a lot of time just grinding pointlessly, and actually managed to beat the Zolom and learn Beta before going into Kalm. I was like, low-to-mid 20s in level by then, I think. Surviving Beta was the real challenge, which I did by having Fire+Elemental on the armor of whoever had the Enemy Skill materia on. Even then, they barely lived, but I managed to finish it off with a Limit Break.
Eventually I managed to get the issue fixed, though I don't remember what worked in the end. Which just reminds me that this was over 20 years ago and I'm just going to go curl up in this corner and cry now. ;_;
Guess thats why they made a whole episode about it lol

I have a fun-er (or kinda disturbing) fact: there's an honest to god, totally canon, Secret Fan Club for him at Shinra HQ. That info was obtained by a SOLDIER fanboy / Sephiroth stan going through his trash.

The reason there's a bunch of animated portraits (and they aren't going away anytime soon) is because on the game's world map, which is where you spend a lot of the game from this point forward, you'd only see Cloud's model on a visually meh world map (which you could see when Cloud was trying to cross the swamp before they saw the Zolom), so they redrew the party-selection portraits of the characters and laid them over a pulled-back image of the game's world map. This is how the whole series will represent the characters walking between plot-important areas.

Choco Bill is voiced by Lewis Lovhaug, aka, Linkara of AT4W, where bad comics burn. He reviews comics and has a storyline where he fights robots, gods, and interdimensional conquerors. He and TFS have worked together at times, with Lanipator playing a government agent later on in the show.
You just had to add the "where bad comics burn" line, yeah? I like it :)
VA Fun Fact:
Choco Bill voiced by Lewis Lovhaug, aka Linkara. You would recognize him as that one dude in Yugioh Abridged who asked young Marik if he'd ever seen the "Kill Your Family" show before, but even moreso as that one Namekian who was more than happy to show Vegeta his village's Dragon Ball in DBZ Abridged. He's actually a pretty funny guy. While he does Voice Acting here and there, his primary works are reviews of bad Comic Books and doing a retrospective of the entirety of Power Rangers.
Fun trivia: in ff7 there is a battle item called loco weed and causes confusion to the target. Confused units take random actions on turn and may attack allies or thems lves.

12:27 - Even though it's not sure if, snakes were mates. Giant Snake impaled on a tree is actual thing in game. this clear overkill is to show a player (in your case, a viewer), how powerful Sephiroth is, by measuring a snake that our heros were struggling with, to a dead snake killed by sephiroth. Just to show that Sephiroth is levels above our heros. in a game Cloud even said, "Did Sephiroth... do this?"

I decided to resub. full disclosure, I subbed before but back then you were not watching a lot of series that I know of so I didn't want to be a "ghost sub" because being a sub and not actually watching the content of the person kind of hurts you, algorithm-wise. Now that you watch 3-4 series I am familiar with and you keep replenishing those that are over with more that I am familiar with, consistently, in the mix, I feel confident enough to resub without causing your channel harm. Keep up the great work m8 :) By the time I run out of content to watch from you I am sure I will have watched some of the other series you have reacted to and watch some of those reactions too to keep the entertainment momentum :P

@@theduckgoesmoo I only recently started thinking like that, when youtube did a purge of subs that are not actively watching content of their channel. That also resulted in some channels rolling back and losing their partner status. I'd hate to do that to you or anyone else. I mean I'd hate to give you fake numbers and feedback. I also remember you said "I know some of you were subbed and now you are not" and I was one of those but trust me when I say "I did it cause I was thinking of you" xD. I was still watching your content (I had you in my bookmarks ) but it was like once a week or every 10 days. now that it's way more often, I am confident enough to resub without thinking I might be doing harm to your channel because of the algorithm
I love how this series started compensating for moments where they inserted excessive story, but the actual game had little to no story, so they created those animated mugshots to fill that footage void.
Also, for experienced players, it's kind of a challenge to fight the zolom early, because it has an enemy skill called beta, which deals massive fire damage on enemies. If you have it this early, you can pretty much one shot most bosses of disk 1. It does cost 20 mp per cast though, which is a lot of mp for early game. There are strats to survive fire dmg because the character who has the enemy skill materia needs to live through one beta and then you also need to win the fight with that member still alive
yeah it's not that difficult if you got the right items. you're usually fine getting beta at lvl ~13 and you can beat the zolom at like lvl 8 with the right setup
just need the character to have elemental linked to fire on your armor slot with the sadness debuff and preferably in the back row. I also think you can get the accessory by then that reduces fire damage
@@Basch152 You can let Zolom take poison damage and defend because if it does not take direct damage, it does not chage phases :P meaning it will cast beta whenever you want to (and also knock out a character)
When I played this game for the first time when I was 8, I ran into the snake and ended up leveling up until I could beat it.
I didn't remember this episode being so early. It was one of my favourites. Cloud's little hype moment (that is inappropriate for the situation) always stuck with me.
You know..... The sad thing is....... He's not lying about inbreeding being the only way to get the best chocobo

In the game there is only one snake. You try to fight it, fail. do the chocobo thing, cross the marsh and find the snake dead cause sephiroth

No, there were two. When you get the Chocobo, you can still see the same snake. Although I don't think it was official, it wouldn't be crazy to think that they WERE mates.

I always hated this part of the game because it was either fight a giant snake with little to no chance of winning or spend a long amount of time chasing around chocobos
