Thinking of the number three in order to forget it does not seem to me similar to emotions and feelings that comes up without thinking of them at all.
I don't feel this is a good example... I have been avoiding unpleasant feelings that would come up since I can remember. Way before I even know they had a name.
This information is helpful. Thank you!

"Cognitive neuroscientists", "95%" -- sounds very scientific. Can you provide references?

Dr. Maidenberg, this is GREAT! What a fun and engaging way to talk about avoidance (fear of discomfort & threat). Just trying not to think of #3 😅 The mind is a funny playground 🛝 😊
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), has been the gold standard for me. Also understanding the hidden unconscious in conjunction with, makes avoidance sound like a dutiful Protector.
The acceptance of difficult feelings reduces some of the struggle that keeps us hooked and trapped.
Thank you for this talk and your most engaging way of delivering.

    Rivka
