This one truly hurt to kill :( Not only does it not attack you first, it’s literally the only colossi that Doesn’t even fight back if you attack it

I think of it like the developers subtly hinting twords the end that killing all the colossi isn't such a good idea. Like they arnt consistently violent, and alluding to what they actually are

Phalanx is the fight in this game that makes you feel that you're a monster. He doesn't wish to kill you.

@@woolfyx Depends on what you define by "during fight".
If you mean after the colossus spots the player, then yes it would be just two themes, but the same would apply to Kuromori because Black Blood only plays when they haven't spotted Wander. So Phalanx would be the only one with three, as OC said.
If you mean after entering the Colossus' "arena", iirc Sign of the Colossus does play in Valus' area, so all three would have three themes each.
Kuromori, too. Black blood counts as a Battle theme, since it takes place as the first phase song of kuromori’s Fight
Absolute favorite colossus. I got such a thrill from Phalanx that no other colossus gave me before (Malus came close, though)
What about Avion? Battle with him was so epic and intense! And man the music when you fight avion
@@n3k1dodge86 Avion was awesome too! Probably among my top 5. But Phalanx, at least for me, was a completely different kind of "epic" just because it felt less like a battle and more of a mercy kill. You almost feel bad for taking down Phalanx because it does not attack you at all - it just wants to fly around the desert in peace

I have no problem blowing up neighbourhoods and running people over with combine harvesters in Grand Theft Auto, but this, this make me sad. A beautiful, unique, and majestic creature was killed for one selfish man's desire.

@@thorny8013late but the other 15 colossi fought you, some of which being out to get you right away (dirge, Malus, etc.), phalanx doesn’t even fight back when you do attack him

Always liked Agro behaviour on this fight. How he cross between the wings when you jump from his back, the way he follow you under the boss and yes, the times when the boss fall over him like on the first time when both Wander and Agro got hit.

I remember I would just stand on his back and just let him fly around before he descended back into the sand and do it all over again aha. He is seriously one of my favorite Colossi and one that made me cry when I killed him. Such a beautiful creature~

Weird. In my memory it's also 4k when last time I played this game on PS2 10 years ago.
Everyone remembers PS2 shadow of the colossus looking amazing but when comparing the two games ps2 shadow of the colossus aged terribly
i never really notice the average 20fps of this game. even lower on stressful part.
The PS2 one won't look bad if you play it on an old fat back TV (CRT) as PS2 was built for that specific technology, but if you play a PS2 on a HDTV your in for a shock 😂 HDTVs can't replicate it well

Phalanx is probably my favourite colossi. Argus was super fun too, and so was Avion. Also Barba was very fun. I highly recommend this game.
Phalanx is my my second favourite boss. Avion is my favourite due to fact that battle with him was so intense and he flied super fast. And damn the music- Avion is probably the greatest boss battle of all Time. Malus is my personal #3 because of the music and Dark atmosphere.
I totally want a remake of this game for VR in first person view! This would be epic!

No matte whatever and how many ever games come! This is the Best Game ever made! The feel when we play is something that’s mesmerizing!!
It's Art sure, and the bosses were amazing and the atmosphere of the loonely World was amazing. But It's not the greatest of all Time. After you kill all collosi there is nothing to do. imo the Witcher 3 or SMW are the greatest of all Time.
RETRO MASTER No way Witcher can even come close to Shadow of Colossus!!

@@lePuru well, i said Witcher 3 has amazing music, i didn't said it has better music, and complete story? Well, Witcher 3 is a complete story as well, but it offers huge replayablity as well. And Witcher 3 is not comparable with BOTW- BOTW is about exploration, creativity but story sucks, Witcher 3 is overall a much more immersive and better game, and while SOTC is much diffrent game than Witcher 3, Witcher 3 Just feels more climatic, grander, has better story, and is overall a better game.

Antonio Carranza Something like that happened to me when facing this one yesterday. I had hit all of the sacks but when it wad sand cruising for me to climb up, it for some reason burrowed underground and came back up right underneath us. Both me and Agro were flying right on top of it when that happened.

Doesn’t even fight you. Just soars through the air like the majestic creature it is. But does Wander care? No!
One time when doing a time attack on Phalanx I took out his air bags and I was getting ready to use Argo to get on him. I charged in front of him and I tried to slow down to get the right aim to get on his wing but then Argo just fucking glitches onto the wing of Phalanx and I think the game thought I was the one on his wing and he swooped up from the ground and after it was just me and Agro on top of Phalanx. After a I took out the first sigil and I got in Agro to try and move him to the next sigil, he moved but Phalanx started shaking so I quickly jump off of Agro and hold on and then I just see Agro fall down from the body. That's why I love Phalanx's fight, you never know what will happen.

Not sure if the theme is about Wander struggling and ultimately triumphantly taking out Phalanx or the ultimately futile desperate struggle of Phalanx shaking down a persistent killer.
Can I be honest for a minute? I never knew what this game was because this boss was the first one I had ever seen and the title was in Japanese.

This Colossus took me the longest to defeat due to the lousy camera and clunky horse riding controls.

For some reason I want to pet Phalanx gently on the head.
This colossus made the game.
Hasn’t anyone else noticed that this is the only Colossus who’s location is not in a cave or mountain but it’s the only one you fight in an open area.
So if it knows that it’s flying in an open area then why didn’t it fly wherever it wanted? I think there’s a theory about some kind of Voodoo magic holding these giant creatures in that one position.
This colossus probably stays in the area because it's home is in the sand

Yes you can, it's quite hard because he has some hitboxes that will damage and knock you out

@@thistleserbel2214 Maybe not. Dirge's oficial name was Naga, which is a snake-like divine figure in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. So they might be based on a snake as well.
Though then again, many of the Colossi's official names don't really match what they actually look like (Phalanx is referred to as The Snake even though they look like a flying pipefish, Quadratus is referred to as The Mammoth despite having horns and no tusks or trunk, etc.), so they could be based on a sandworm as well.

I believe they are like air sacks that help it float. I you pay attention, you can see that Phalanx descends when you pop them
