I’ve deleted all social media (unless you consider RUclips social media) and it has been life changing. I’m no longer angry, annoyed, pessimistic, and can enjoy my day without having to scroll.
I get you.. so many times I've tried and then something pops up like.. check insta for more info blah blah.. or selling on local market place.. always end up resubscribing
@@sanjalisnjic7271 I disagree RUclips isn’t anything like the social media platforms imo. Those platforms are about scrolling and short form. RUclips is actually useful for learning, and gaining knowledge. Most social networks is mindless junk not much to be learned and not much knowledge to gain.
Never was on Facebook. Only watch RUclips for educational purposes. Clean my sub list every 6 months. Thanks for your pointers to spread the word to friends + family too focused on social media.
1. It's good to be in the company of people who can still think for themselves having read your comments , thank you all for restoring our faith in ourselves .
I've found it helpful to ask, "Is this making my social life better or worse?" If it is truly "social media", then the relationships I have should be made better, or I should be interacting with people from different cultures with new ideas, and my own life and thinking are expanded. And if that's not actually happening, if I'm on "social media" but not actually being social, if I'm just consuming content (like you say, Josh), then I am probably missing out. Good tips here to keep that focus.
Social media is a two-edged sword. It may be great source to share vital info that can lift your spirits. But, if one's use isn't guarded carefully, it can make the world a lonelier place.
I LOVE THIS . Amen! Social media should be used for good , however don’t get addicted . Be present with your children that’s so important to me . Your kids will never get your time back
Ah! The Kingston book! That’s what guided me at first too! Interesting! And yes, old friend, yes.... It’s been a great journey with you. I appreciate you, thoughtful and strong fellow traveler! Gina Kapuscinski
Privacy is huge. We've all seen the people who share every argument, and every fault of their spouse or child. We would hate it if someone posted all our ugliness. So remember the golden rule.
I wrote just that. Mostly with kids. Parents should be banned from exposing their children as they do. I am a primary school teacher in South America. Believe me, everything your mother/ father/etc. posted when you were 5 will be found by your colleagues a few years later.
Personally I always consume and never create. But I'd like to take your advice to heart and say thank you for making this video! It is full of helpful guidelines that I'd like to incorporate into my life. Thank you!
Excellent advice. I jumped off social media a few years ago, but lately I’ve been missing the online community & the ability it gave us to come together in times of need.
Great approach to social media. I left Facebook a few years ago because I wasted and saw others waste so much time. I have Instagram that keeps me in contact with family and friends and I enjoy listening to RUclips .
I loved your approach. Much more reasonable than just “delete everything”, which sometimes is not doable for some people. I’ll try to implement this rules, and I’m sure things will get much better. Thank you!
I don't do social media anymore! I've wasted decades of my life on Myspace, Twitter and Instagram. I will never do social media even if they pay me. I have better things to do with my time! 😩
I use social media to watch educational videos like yours. Also keep i. Touch with my family and friends. But not on much. And by the way You’re one of my favorites.🥰
I also appreciate the fact of being more compassionate in comments I have been at fault of being very rude in comments when I definitely would never do that in person, thank you for helping think before I speak or comment on a video. Moving forward I will definitely try my best to be positive and thoughtful with my comments on others videos. Powerful presentation Joshua.
Stopped using Facebook and Instagram about 1.5 years ago, rarely use Snapchat anymore. Best decision I’ve made in awhile as I have a lot more time and happiness in my life. Getting rid of all the news apps also helped create a more peaceful life
Thanks for these rules and for the advice to contribute to social media as a creator. It broadens your perspective to move from a consumer to a participant in whatever social media that you choose to spend your time enjoying. Thanks again!
My life has definitely welcome first in the last couple of years because social media.Thanx from Sicily for facing this issue. And thanx for inspiring me in a positive strong way
I came into social media. First Facebook then Instagem then Yutube and then Tiktok. I came into just for business. I find clients thru using social media. I have set timer how long to be on Facebook. Facebook have timer and notify me the time is up. I also find promotional packages on trips. Stay updated with Religious pages. But, like you quoted. Im in focus in posting my business and give max 30mins and out. My biggest motive ectually to stop. So, my bill don't increase. Here is South Africa is not cheap using internet for social media. Thank you
I’ve noticed that I get the same “introvert tired” engaging in social media as I do in real life. Lol. Even just watching learning vids. Chatter is still chatter either way. I often will just go play a game or do a puzzle when I want “quiet” down time. About the only one I really like a lot is YT tho. I have FB, but it’s so lame I don’t bother much anymore with it. I don’t really use any of the others at all or super rarely. Great advice on the jumping tho. Ha ha. I used to feel bad about missing a birthday or event etc but now I’m just like ok. Whatever. Lol.
Thank you Joshua i really needed this today, very good ideas and its good every now and then to take a good look at things through some good advice. I definitely need to un plug, and embarce the privacy rule, you can open up yourself and others to too much divulging to much information that it becomes gossip and there is no more things to keep to yourself, thank you again.
Thank you for an insightful and doable way to navigate social media. So much advise is just delete it all but your approach is much more balanced. Thank you again for another original and helpful video.
Might not be completely related but what is your advice about news? About limits and not being consumed by it, This seems to be an increasingly difficult thing to balance today whether people watch or read news on the TV or the phone. Any thought about which may have more negative time drains. Very curious what you think/recommend.
VIDEO NOTES: 1. Jump in Jump Out - Enjoy the "water" right there - Don't FOMO 2. Create, Don't Just Consume 3. Use The Platforms You Enjoy 4. Keep The Same Standards Online As You Do In-Person - Don't be anonymous and transparent - Have integrity and humility 9. Seek To Understand Those With Different Opinions - Learn from others 10. Privacy is Still Nice, So Keep Some - Not everything you do needs to be shared
Rules rules rules. I just live my life as I see fit. Minding other people and their feelings. I was never on facebook. Insta or twitter. I don't need anyone's rules to live a happy and meaningfull life, whatever the latter means and according to whose standard. and I live my life by my own rules get my selected news from various sources (serious media). God, I'm good😂😛 And being minimalist is different for anyone. A proper definition is hard to make. A clutter free house? A rodent free space? Owning just basic ncessities. Owning just the one car. An organised bookshelf with books arranged on colour, whatever. A minimalist life is a life without rules advised or prescribed by others
I deleted all of my Facebook friends except for family and my closest friends. I love to check in on the lives of nieces and nephews, especially now that they are having kids.
"Privacy is still nice". As a primary school teacher from a South American country, I am appalled when seeing how many people share their children's pictures/videos with the world or make money out of their daily life with their kids. "Here is XXXX learning to poop". "Here is XXXX falling when trying to learn to walk". Kids have rights. And you don't own your kid. So yes, PRIVACY is not only still nice, it is a RIGHT.

For me trying to limit social media never worked. I had to quit for good! I couldn't just use it a little bit.
