    I made the mistake of making this clay at bedtime so it would be ready for me to use when I get up in the morning. But, it is so good that I can't stop making things with it! Great texture, great consistency, molds well... It's now over 2 hours past my bedtime & I'm STILL making things, lol. Thank you so very much for this video!!💙

    This clay is actually called Cold Porcelain because it dries similarly to the look of porcelain. If you kneed it while hot, put it in a greased baggie it will have a smooth texture and can keep up to several months though it will slowly get drier and harder to work with. I make lifelike flowers out of it - many tutorials on RUclips for that. I've had some I've kept for 4-5 months and I was still able to use it. You can make it quite thin when it's fresh and it will hold the shape it's dried in though it does shrink 10-20 %. Blessings!

    It looks like you over cooked it a bit, it's too dry, hun. Also, if you knead it with some moisturizing cream ( like Vaseline or nivea) it will become much smoother and less crumbly.

    I love this. I have a few questions. Approximately how long does it take on the stove? When you said let it dry then it will be ready to use can you describe what you mean by dry? I know it is not until the clay is no longer moldable but not sure what you mean. Sorry if these questions seem elementary but I just want to make sure I understand. Last question, how long will the clay last in airtight container? Thanks so much for sharing. I really enjoy watching and learning from you!

    • @MargaretMcGill
      @MargaretMcGill 2 года назад +3

      I’d say ‘not wet’…. You’ll probably know by looking at it. As in the video. It’s no longer sloppy and wet but drier yet pliable. I’m still watching the video so Deidre might mention storage. Best not to double your recipe till you know how much you’re going to use initially.

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  2 года назад +6

      It took about 10 minutes on the stove but might vary with your element heat. Mine were dry overnight. then you can decorate however you like or just let kids play with it like play doh. I don't usually store mine I use it all up when I make it but I would think if you had a air tight container it would last a few days. :)

      Hello. I got confused at minute 3:11 in the video when she takes it off the stove and said to let it "dry" completely. I imagine she meant to say let it "cool" completely. Hope you had fun.

      I too am a little confused by the take it off the stove and let it dry completely, I mean obvs she doesn’t mean till it hard but can you explain roughly how long we should leave it to “dry” like an hour
      10 minutes
      3 hours etc
      I think some are getting confused by your wording.
      Great recipe I made one similar but was extremely sticky lol Your video informed me I need to add more cornflour lol

    Do you normally use the clay straight after it dries or do you knead it first? I have made a recipe like yours but I made it in the microwave and used lemon juice instead of vinegar as the preservative. I made my last batch four months+ ago and I checked it yesterday and it's still ok and just as good as it was the first day. I just put it in a ziplock bag and it keeps perfectly. This clay is perfect for children, my 6yo granddaughter has played with this type of clay all of her life, I've always made it. It's brilliant clay isn't it! Thanks for your video.
    God bless you and yours.

      @@jamee_maree I've been using this clay, Cold Porcelain for years. It does shrink about 8-10% and is softer than commercial air-dried clay so yes, it can lose its shape unless you are very careful taking it out of the mold. I find that a very light dusting of oil first and then a powdering of cornstarch works best, but it's not foolproof even then when you de-mold it. Blessings!

    Hey Deidre! I have a question: would this clay do well in molds? I have some medallion silicon molds that I'd like to try it on.

    Hi Deidre! I made some many years ago, I don't remember the recipe.
    When the ornament dried it warped. Is there a trick for preventing this from happening? Or was it the recipe I used?
    Thanks again for all your tips and tricks. Loving this channel! 💖

      I use this recipe and make earrings for retail. I have found that it works best to dry the pieces slowly over 1 or 2 days under a loose tent of plastic wrap. If you can, flip the pieces over after 2 hrs or so; repeat throughout the day. Hope that helps!

    Deidre, I just attempted this recipe. Almost dislocated my arm with all that stirring!! My clay came out rather dry, although i added another tsp of veggier oil.Could it be because the cornstarch or White glue I use here in Australia is somehow stronger or thicker than yours? It could also be that I cokked it ever so slightly longer? I used in in small molds , andit looks lovely so far, will see how it dries. in fact, the tiny bits I sliced away from the frame, hardened very quickly! to make it pliable alittle longer while I work on the design, is it ok to use water in a sprayer to keep it a little moist? I Compared to Das, and another Airdry Clay made here in Aus, the clay came out more plasticy and as I said dry, while the other clays were almost stickily wet!!might add alittle water to the next mix, i think? Even so, i am having a good play!!

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  Год назад

      Yes it sounds like that might be the issue. You may need to tweak the recipe a bit

      Hand lotion, a bit more cooking oil, baby oil or olive oil. Start with rubbing on your hands when you knead the Clay after cooking. Keep adding small amounts in this manner until it feels right. Hope that helps 😊

    I've not had any luck finding air dried clay in my area...RUclips to the rescue! I've recently thrifted a couple of resin snowmen who are missing their noses! This recipe should help. As a temporary fix for one, I sharpened an orange crayon then snipped off the end and glued it. Looks great but definitely won't last. Thanks for the recipe.
