- heyyyo I hope you guys are all having a wonderful afternoon, or whatever time it happens to be when you see this. Today I wanted to introduce you to one of my favourite tropical houseplants, the Bromeliad. (Also known as Guzmania, somewhat commonly Scarlet Star, or the florist's Bromeliad.) This specimen stopped blooming a while back and I thought it would be a good idea to go over how to care for it after it has bloomed, as I see many people throw them away once the blooms have faded! This is a plant that will greatly reward you in future years if you are patient with it. The particular Bromeliad I have in my hands in this video is Guzmania lingulata 'Yellow'. This plant is a relative of the Pineapple, both in the family Bromeliaceae and the order Poales. This plant is for aesthetic purposes and is not edible. It is a monocot with long strappy leaves, and an interesting internal pool called a Tank in which you can water it too. Have a good day you guys once again, and thank you for supporting :)) Stay Blessed
Thank you for telling me not to throw it away after it blooms! I was so unsure but it’s a beautiful plant and don’t want to get rid of it :)
This is so dope! I have a baby on my main plant. I'll repot it. 😊
This was super informative!
Heyyyo just saw this haha, thank you so much!! I hope it's going well for ya❤❤✌🙏
Wish I had taken a photo of my bloom! Thank you for this video! I did not know that they only bloom once. Hopefully, I didn't wait too long before clipping the dead part. Thanks for your video! I subscribed!
Hello my friend had just like to say that Plant is beautiful thank you for sharing the video with us a merry Christmas to all thank you❤❤❤
Yo thanks homiee! God bless yall out east🕊💚❤
Wow Iove your narration or delivery, first time viewer here and thanks for this info it'll be helpful w my new Guzmania flower🌸
Hey thank you! And no problemo ;)) best of luck with your plant eh!!
Thanks so much. I just checked mine, and it has TWO pups.😊
I have a giant one of these that I received for Christmas. How do you know when the bloom is "dead"? Mine is so big I had to tie it up because it wants to flop out of the pot. I think it's time to cut the bloom but I'm not sure, I'd love to keep it longer but it looks so sad. It's too big to keep in my apartment so I put it outside and it's struggling in the dry 9a zone here. Do you think cutting the flower will help bring the plant back? April 9th, 2021
I dig you. You’ve got great energy. Thank you for this video. I just subbed.
I was hoping for just a bit of clarification… when I replant the pups (I have 3) do I replant separately and with fresh soil? Can I reuse soil from the mother plant?
Thank you. ✨
Awwe yo thank you Delia, really appreciated 🙏 Yes you can plant them in with the original mother plant soil, they're pretty prominent epiphytes meaning that they pretty much use the soil as an anchor, with some nutrient absorption needs. I recommend new soil just because aged soil tends to get waterlogged easily as it gets compacted with time, so it's just safer to use new soil. Have a great day :))
@@maxzytaruk8558 thank you for the reply, Max! Have a beautiful weekend.
I've managed to get my pups to bloom. I put potted pup a plastic bag together put a ripe apple . The gas secreted by the ripe apple resulted in my first flower.
I bought a Guzmania on clearence in a mall just to save her. She already bloomed and the flower part is cut off but she has no pups atm. Can anybody share some thoughts on how should I proceed? Should I keep her and hope for the pup? Or is she gonna go yellow before a pup happens? Thank you!
I've got 3 babies on my mother plant. Would you plant them to 1 pot together or 3 separat? Thank you.
Hey there! Congratulations on the babies! I would definitely plant them separately, they will quickly fill up their pots, why have one pot full when you can have three ;))) have a good one!
Would you suggest repotting the baby in the winter?
Hello there, yes, so long as you get a few hours of at least moderate light, the only real concern with these guys is the cold night temperatures, they do go into a somewhat dormant state so It might take some time for their roots to reestablish, It should be fine though, best of luck eh!!!:)
Thanks for sharing. Where indoors can I place the Guzmania, will it be okay in medium light? Do I need to water weekly in winter?
Hey! Hope you're doing well:) medium light is fine for these guys, definitely would'nt go lower in light than that though. It really depends on how warm you keep your house in the winter. I definitely think you could get away with watering every 10 to 12 days if it's not too warm, do long as the soil doesn't routinely go bone dry. Best of luck with your Guzmania:)!!
Thanks for your advice.
plus you are cute... and smart obviously 🤣
Ooooh dang you're making me blush ☺💖
