I've tried all these, but touching the screen does nothing. Battery shows 94%, paired the tablet and pen several times. The tablet doesn't seem to recognize tip. But I can double click the top/eraser end button and the tablet screenshot clips just as I set it up to do in the beginning. Pen is a week old and have used it a few times. Suddenly nothing.

I'm experiencing the same problem as most other users in the comments. The top buttons work on my pen but the other buttons and the actual tip do not. For some reason I can't access the links you have given so I was hoping I could get more direct help here. What I also don't get is the fact that this problem has happened to so many people surely you must have had an actual fix to this problem with a forum specially for it or an updated pen that doesn't experience this.

I don't see a good answer in the comments so here's the trick: reboot the pen by holding the top button for 10 seconds. Should fix it.

To all of you out there, who is having a situation similar to mine, the bluetooth recognizes and connects the pen, the action button opening the apps however the pen keeps not inking even after all the updates, using troubleshooting kit and reinstalling the drives, check the three metallic terminals in the plastic part (when you open to change the battery). In my case, one of them got stuck inside the body avoiding the contact. I just pulled it out (with the finger) and once the contact occurred, the pen started to ink nicely again. ;) I hope it helps.

I tried everything possible i even reseted my Surface. Nothing worked. But then i accidentely threw my pen on the flor like it was a really loud clap when it hit the ground. Suddenly my pen worked again, i couldnt believe it. I do not recommend to just throw your surface pen on the ground but for my case it worked.

I just bought my 3rd pen a month ago after the last one stopped working, and now the brand new pen doesn't work either. So far I've tried re-pairing the pen, resetting the pen, rebooting, hard rebooting, reinstalled Windows 10, replaced tip, replaced battery, disabled/enabled drivers (Bluetooth-Surface Pen, Firmware-Surface Pro Touch Controller Firmware, Human Interface Devices-HID-compliant pen, HID-compliant touch screen, Surface Pen Settings), ran all Windows updates & ran the diagnostic toolkit. After trying all of these fixes none of my 3 pens will work, except for the back eraser. I used to love using the surface, but now I can't use it at all for work anymore without a working pen, and I don't want to have to keep buying new ones! Is there anything else I might be missing that I'm not trying? I've been searching for solutions everyone and nothing works. I'm using a Surface Pro 3 and other bluetooth devices work just fine.

I have the third model, the newest one. Does the pen's tip work without battery? How many batteries exactly are in it? If more than one, how can I change a second, hidden one and not only that one AAAA? My Pen does not work and blink, the AAAA battery is new and fine. I can't imagine that I need a battery in order for the tip to work. I need to know if I only need to replace a second hidden battery, the tip or the whole pen.

I've been having a lot of issues with my Surface Pro 4. I'm not sure if it's the company I bought it from (Amazon) or if it's the system itself, but I know that I'm not alone in this.
Late December, I had bought my product and was very happy with how it worked. It functioned normally and did everything I wanted/needed it to do. About a week or two after though, the pen stopped writing. I could use the top button just fine, it was connected, had perfect battery and a perfect pen nib, but it stopped responding to brush strokes. My touch screen worked fine still, it was the pen.
I tried everything I could, everything Microsoft suggested and everything other people suggested. It still didn't work. I sent it back to Amazon and bought another one, convinced that it was just defective.
I received this one two weeks ago and for those two weeks, it worked perfectly. And then fourteen days later it stopped working, just the same as last time.
I'm close to giving up on this product, I've had to return and repurchase three Surface Pros now. I'd really like to have it work again because when it does work, it's a fantastic machine that does everything I need. I've been through two different Surface Pro 4s now and two different pens. It's not a problem with the pen, it's not a problem with the machine. What and where is the issue? After a bit more researching, the Surface Pro 5s and up don't have this issue, it's just a Surface Pro 4 issue. Why is this happening and why are so many people experiencing the same problem with no apparent solution? It's happened twice to me now with two different machines.
I've been on and off with support lines and I'm growing desperate and frustrated. I'm not returning this thing for the third time.
Has ANYONE found a solution for this thing that doesn't involve returning it? I know this video is old, but this is just in desperate hope that I can get some help before I give up on this brand.

I've tried everything and still the tip is not responding. Clicking does respond but drawing and touch with the tip does nothing. I think the battery had run down on the pen. When I replaced the battery the tip never came back. I've removed and restored the pen in the bluetooth settings several times. Tried a hard reboot of the computer (which worked for some online) but still did not work.

If you have a Surface Laptop and your pen's buttons still work but the tip doesn't, in device manager in windows, uninstall the "intel precise touch device" under "human interface devices" and then reboot. According to the MS store tech, it resets the config for both the touchpad and the pen. This was the only thing that fixed the pen input on my device.

Hi, Jerry. Thanks for commenting, and we’re here to assist you. If you’re asking if Surface Pen will work with other Windows devices, the answer is yes. Your Surface Pen might be compatible with Windows 10/11 PCs and other devices that support Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) and not just Surface devices. When using other devices, your pen and inking experience will vary slightly based on your PC or device manufacturer and the Surface Pen you use with it.

Hello, replaced the screen of my surface 5 pro 1796 with another of the same P / N, it was working very well for a whole day, after a win10 update, coincidentally the touch no longer works. I restored Windows as factory, I also tried booting in UEFI mode and the touch no longer works, it is inoperative.
    I have my doubts:
1- When did Windows also update the firmware of the touch control board, is the firmware incompatible?
2- When the touch is connected or disconnected, the screen always works ok.
3- I have installed two screens and the same thing happens, after Windows is updated, the touch no longer works.

Y listo!

I have a surface book 2. My pen tip stopped working a few months ago, but the eraser button still works and writes.
I've replaced the battery, replaced the actual tip itself, and uninstalled/reinstalled all the surface pen drivers, however, the pen tip still doesn't work, but the eraser does.
I don't live especially close to a Microsoft Store, and want to verify this is a pen issue, and not a surface book 2 issue before I commit to purchasing a new pen...
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand that your Surface Pen stopped working. This issue may occur due to a broken pen tip, a corrupted pen driver or an issue with your device touch screen. Since you've already replaced the battery, replaced the pen tip, and reinstalled the surface pen drivers to no avail, then we suggest that you reinstall the touch screen driver. On how to do this, please follow these steps:
      1. In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, and then select Device Manager in the results.
Expand the Human Interface Devices category.
      2. Right-click Intel(R) Precise Touch Device, select Uninstall device, and then, in the Uninstall Device dialog box, select Uninstall.
      3. Right-click HID-compliant touch screen, select Uninstall device, and then, in the Uninstall Device dialog box, select Uninstall. If you see two HID-compliant touchscreen drivers, right-click the first, select Uninstall device, select Uninstall, and then repeat the process for the second driver.
      4. From the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes. You may also need to restart your Surface. It will automatically download and install the touchscreen driver when connected to the internet.

My pen with no clip failed after little over a year (just in time for the warranty to expire). The erasure button and erasure sensor still worked but the tip was completely unresponsive, i ran the troubleshooter but got no results, reset and redownloaded all the related drivers as instructed but still nothing, replaced the tip completely and it still does not write at all. My conclusion at this point is internally something between the battery and the tip has fouled out and i will have replace the entire unit or just use a usb drawing tablet like my "One by WACOM" if i want to draw anything; even though half the point in getting the surface pro 7 at the time was to have a portable drawing station that was self contained. Though from the other comments, what i see on the forums, and from the customer support site it seems ill have to just buy a new +$100 pen every year like a hidden subscription if i want to keep using it for that.

Hi, Jooha! We know how it feels when you're unable to use your Surface Pen the way you wanted and we are here to help you out.
There are reasons why Surface Pen stopped working such as outdated driver or the Pen itself is defective.
To determine the cause of the issue, we suggest trying the following troubleshooting steps:
      1. Install all the updates through the Windows Update. Click on Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates.

@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport me and @twinkle star are just a little confused wherever the oldest model of the pen (shown on the video) doesn't work with the new surface go ( purchased 2019) or if our pens are just broken. there is no information about that anywhere to be found. If you try to connect it to the surface it shows that it is connected but it doesn't interact with the screen whatsoever. So basically we are just wondering what pens exactly work with the newest surface go. It would be nice to know if there is an old version that works, since they are cheaper and I personally really need to save the money

@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport Hi, thank you for getting back to me! I appreciate it.
      To answer your questions:
      1: I have the model M1776 black
      2: Surface pro 6; windows 10 OS build: 19042.1288
3: No error messages other than a continious red/orange LED light on my pen
      4: Yes first time
5: Nothing, I only used Microsoft Endnote for my classes
6: I have updated my surface pro to the latest update, restarted my device. The issue began when I tried to use my pen and noticed that it’s not working (not able to write anything) so I took out the battery, reinstalled it and there was no LED light so I figured the battery was dead (although the battery was fairly new, only 1.5 months old), I replaced it with a new battery and that’s when the red/orange LED started to light (without stopping or blinking). Although I can still write on my surface but the bluetooth is undetectable. I tried inserting another new battery but I had the same issue. When I long press the top button, I can see the red LED flickering (as it’d normally do when pressing the top button) but the flickering is really hard to see since it’s a very slight lighter red that flickers. But no change to bluetooth or whatsoever.

Hi there, Ilton. Glad that you've reached out to us and we're happy that you were eager tp show the battery to your friend. If performing the steps provided on the video above didn't help, re-intializing the Precise Touch driver can get this addressed.
To do this, you can follow the steps below:
      1. Right click the Start button and select Device Manager. Make sure that you're sign-in with an Administrator account.
      2. Find Intel(R) Precise Touch Device under the Human Interface Devices category.
      3. Right-click on that driver and click "Uninstall" device.
      4. Once this is uninstalled, restart your Surface.
      5. After it restarts and completely signed-in, the driver should automatically re-install. To verify that, try going back to the Device Manager.
      6. Try out the Pen on a known good app.
      Hope it helps.

After doing what was indicated and losing all my hopes, I decided to check again the last part of the pen (the plastic part with the button). After fixing it, the pen started to work again. So, I would like to share with you guys to help other that may have issues like mine.
