thats because the government and ones in control are untouchable, as we have seen even bigger crimes by them, in the past 3 years. but they are above the law. after all they make the laws an ban everything and passed a law giving them , we cant do any wrong. people need to wake up, to take the public's attention off the last ordeal, they right away pull off another to distract the public from the one before, it is still going on today, even stronger

For those wondering, MAJOR screwups occurred in the government that caused this to be significantly worse than it was. As a result, without any political hay to be made by either side, the whole story was basically dropped and forgotten.
Canadians are reliant on the government for security, healthcare, childcare, education, etc. We don't tend to direct our ire towards our government when it fails, because we view it as an extension of ourselves. Because of this, there is little recourse for those effected by government failures, and little momentum to bring serious reform.

She “woke up the communications officer” the night of the mass shootings says a lot…..
Bottom line, RCMP was and continues to be ill-equipped to deal with any type of “scary” ordeal in which they are supposed to be our front line of defense, hence the reason why citizens should be trained to be able to protect ourselves with firearms; communication with all law enforcement would’ve been absolute key in this complete debacle and failure of Nova Scotia residents…..

RE: Wortman as a police informant.
The MCC did nothing to clear up this question. RCMP policies are very clear that informant details should almost never be made public - they are instructed to lie unless there are specific circumstances (criminal trial and they are under oath). None of that applied here to my knowledge.
Most interesting support for this was the date Wortman was on with a woman at his apartment. Late in the evening a police officer walks into his apartment without knocking (apparently believing Wortman is alone). Some story is made up why he is in the “neighborhood”, then the two go outside to talk for a few minutes.

Understanding Lisa Banfield is difficult because the relationship between an abuser and his victim is extremely complicated. Abusers are expert manipulators. Step by patient step they destroy the victims sense of self. They deny and then they give, they punish and then reward, and in the end they have someone who simply does and no longer thinks because the abuser is totally in control of every aspect of their lives. In essence they have become a human robot and will act absolutely as the abuser wants. So, we simply ask, “Why did you do that why didn’t you run away?” The question is simple and the answer is almost incomprehensible? I understand it academically but emotionally I find it impossible to comprehend.

Doug, do some research into this tragedy. Read "22 Murders" by Paul Palango. Lisa Banfield is not the innocent victim the RCMP and MEDIA are portraying. She was well aware of Gabriel Wortman's activities and was even complicent to some degree. She admitted she was with Wortman when he received payment from the Brink's Depository in Dartmouth on March 29/2020, 19 days before his rampage. She also was with Wortman when he smuggled a handgun into Canada.... she admitted this to the RCMP as well. She was also charged by the RCMP with providing Wortman with ammunition after his rampage. She was "Known by Police" and had many dealings with them over the years. Her story of being handcuffed in the back seat of a replica cruiser and escaping into the woods and staying outside in freezing tempatures until 6:30 a.m. is complete BULLSHIT. Witness Leon Joudrey contradicted her statements and disbelieved her from the get go. There is also the matter of Wortman's Wealth.... he was very wealthy and there is monies unaccounted for. What does Lisa know about that I wonder?! Doug, she is not an innocent victim in this matter..... far from it. Also, why did the RCMP fight against her testimony at the M.C.C. so hard. Gabriel Wortman was a bi-sexual man and had many man lovers..... Lisa Banfield was aware of this fact. She was his "Beard," this is a huge factor in the story as well.

Remarkable that this lunatic was able to pull off such a crime spree over such a time period. Incredible that he could gain access to a police vehicle and uniform. Rest in peace to the victims, this was such a terrible crime. Overlooked in the revisiting of this incident is that he purchased the firearm illegally, in the US, then brought it back to Canada. If boarder services had been notified of the report that he possibly had an illegal firearm, then maybe they could have conducted a search of his car in one or more of the 15 trips he made to the US, and stopped him from commiting this atrocity.

Also overlooked is the fact that Canada essentially criminalizes the possession of the tools of personal protection. Forget guns ... Canadians face 10 yrs in prison just for carrying a PEPPER SPRAY in public.

Complicated situation, and it isn't surprising police were overwhelmed by it -- night time, houses attacked, unfamiliar country roads the killer was familiar with. The fact he was driving a police cruiser was diabolical, and so confusing for police and everyone. The ball was dropped much earlier on when this guy was allowed to cross the border so many times to buy guns and not be investigated and his guns removed. No excuse for RCMP not using the alert system in a timely manner. No excuse for poor communication with the families after the fact. It seems the area was understaffed to deal with this, and not trained for it as well. It could happen again, and even if you had a gun at home for self defense you wouldn't know what was coming. One lesson learned -- pay attention to people who are violent, including domestic violence.

When only one woman is being offered so much advice from professionals while she is at the same time being expected to make so many decisions on her own to protect herself; children and all of the people who live in the same municipal areas she lives in too a whole lot can happen while there are so many other people around who are not trained police at all who became just as concerned after they heard of an amber alert. The police woman was in a situation way too complicated for her to survive. What is a woman to do when she is not a trained police officer at all while more than one professional is advising her to offer up all of the responsibility for the caring of 4 children whom she was acting as a caring step mother to. When she already knows about his obsessive love of collecting both guns and vehicles.

The RCMP officer Greg Wiley visited the shooter 16 times that should have been big of a red flag to investigate the background of the shooter.
