I am the wrong side of 70 but have cycled for most of my life. The hills were basically stuffing me and I stopped enjoying my cycling. I decided it was time to get an Ebike so I got this bike from Halfords and its like being 18 again. I do a 12 mile bike ride over very hilly terrain and this bike makes it a joy to ride. If you are over 60 and have not done any cycling for years an Ebike is a good way to get back into it. Excellent review covers the main points.
Andrew, this review has been just what I’ve been looking for. Like you, I couldn’t find what amount of ‘assist’ you get and have been searching for a while now. Was toying between the Gtech and subway for a couple of days but now think I’ll plump for the carerra vengeance e because of your recommendation. Thanks again and keep up the good work!!
I got one 2 years ago back in 2019. It's awesome. It's my dream bike. Despite now owning a car again, I commute to work with it plus I do day trips out on the train taking my ebike with me. I've even taken it in the car even though its a estate car. It's broken down a couple of times which was due to a electrical fault as it s computer generated. But it got sorted under my warranty. It's worth it though and it saves fuel on the car. So yes, I do recommend an ebike.
It good to hear an honest assessment of range. It makes it hard to choose an ebike when you know you can knock off ten miles of whatever the manufacturer claims.
I was going to buy one when they were released but kept seeing complaints about the battery and some plastic down by the pedals. Learned that the 2021+ model has fixed these issues and I made the purchase. £1199 with all the add ons, and extra £100ish for lights, chain etc and honestly it's one of the fave purchases. My moped finally died after 7 years and I was tempted to get another one for £2000. So glad I changed my mind and went the ebike route😀
Thanks Andrew I have the older version of the e vengeance with 250w Bafang Motor. Battery gives only 25 miles (bought extra one). Word of warning Suntour electrical systems, as used here, do seem to have suffered from systemic faults as noted in other Carrera ebikes. Hope problems have now been rectified.
I got the same bike had one or two issues with the errors but for them fixed but I use daily and it’s great bike. Only let down is battery life could be better and the cost of a spare is well astronomical. Overhaul good bike for 20-30 a day. I done 900 miles now on it.
Hi, Am watching this in Feb 2021 so I expect that the bike charger has been changed by now. I am looking in to getting an e-bike in the next few months and am at the research stage. One thing I am trying to find out is how long is the battery life, as in how many times can it be charged. also how much a replacement battery would cost
I too bought one 😊 I made a few mods and it’s now an amazing bike to ride. Suspension seat post...gel saddle 35 degree stem and 38mm riser bars.... dmr v12 pedals (super grippy).....Schwalbe marathon plus mtb tyres....bigger battery...... it’s a completely different bike now.
i got this bike over a year ago now and it is best thing i've done. I cycle the 10 miles and back from work, but one thing i have noticed that when i arrive to work im left with 59% but when i go to ride home after im left with 39-40% so battery drains after use.

@@andrewbradley8047 hi mate! I have a question regarding batteries... is it true they are supposed to be releasing this bike again with an upgraded battery this year? I've just heard a rumour about it. Thanks

So i was 260ish pounds when i started with this, fairly up and down road wise to work and back, I would use the full power till you are used to it then work your way down, 10 miles should be more than fine, id 100% bring the charge with you though and charge the battery while at work if you can, iam 6 miles each way roughly and just make it home using full power on a full charge. but definitely worth it.
@@andrewbradley8047 thanks bro. Ordered it last night after watching a few more reviews and doing abit of research 👍 have you had to replace the battery yet?
Hi Andrew, I was thinking of buying one of these as a first step into ebiking. What are your thoughts on the brand/model now following a couple of years of use? Thanks in advance. Tom Kearney, Wicklow, Ireland.

I've had a Carrera Vulcan for 2 years now,I wonder have they fixed the LCD problem yet,on the Vulcan the LCD is removable, great for stopping someone steal it but in damp weather or even going over a bump can turn off, also me and another guy have had problems with the back break ,it goes soft to engage and less powerful this seems to be a recuring problem with other Carrera bikes..otherwise its fine if a little slow.
vulcan had hydraulic disc break a tektro one, just bleed it mate power will be back again it has bubbles on the hose thats why it lost the breaking power
Just picked mine up today and wow am I happy! Question though, when out and about in town do people leave their battery in or do the unlock it and take it with you? I know they come with keys and the battery is locked but are batteries easily stolen can you trust the lock? If I took my battery with me whilst my bike was locked I’d then be afraid of the battery connector getting wet if it rained. What do you guys do??
Hi Andrew, fab video I'm toying with the idea of an e bike. This looks the part. Does the battery come off the bike to charge? Is the bike still quite easy to manoeuvre with the extra weight? Has your fitness improved?
Range depends on your weight, tbh i was 260 pounds first using this and on full power I can get around 15-20 miles depending on terrain and flatness out of it a year later, also i showed quite a few times there are three settings, and said it twice, just need to watch the video bud and youll be fine.
Hi Andrew, How do you charge the LED Display. Is it charged up automatically when you charge the battery? I noticed it had a USB slot in the side of the display however I wasn’t provided with a cable to charge that way.
I got one of the G tec escent Mountian bike e bike last week and it was crap, it kicks in innitially but then goes on and off all the time even up a hill, result is I may as well have just got a normal bike for half the price as I still end up struggling and sweaty as a result. Took it back for a replacement so wait and see if new one is the same but I now have to wonder why it's a limited stock sale at Halfords. It may just be a faulty bike but to others just beware of the gtec mountain bike as I suspect it's maybe a design fault. I will try and update once I have found out more and if it gets fixed etc so other people are aware as not much info online about the mountain bike one yet. I kinda wish I'd just got the Vengence now. Update: According to one of the Halfords staff they think there was no fault with the gtec bike and it was just the motor size, so basically saying there was no fault and it's the motor size causing it to feel like its going on and off?? Why would the motor size make it cut on and off so it sounded like total BS. So as good as the rest of the spec is on the bike I would not recommend it in terms of an ebike, I'm going to give the Vengence a try even though it's a lower spec.
Ideally suited to fatties like us🤗 My journey to work is 9 miles; its a hard ride either way... the ‘e’ bike, really does make a hell of a difference. I no longer get to work in a bath of sweat, though still a fair workout if you choose. Journeys home, after a 14 hour shift, are a blast; though i often use a low setting for that extra workout on the journey home. Amazing kit!🤗

However, I have just heard Halfords are now doing free trials of there electric bike range so you can make a deposit of around £100 and take one for a spin for 6 hours or more if wanted, therefore people can now make a judgment for themselves.. though I think longer time is needed to learn all about them still.. Worst thing about these e-bikes is the breakdowns I have heard about too, normally a fault with the Suntour electrical system but normally fixed on warranty (if your local Halfords can actually find the fault..) Not sure if this issue has been dealt with since though. Info is taken from old reviews on website, just be very careful buying used ones.

we got exactly the same bike(mine is 20 inch frame but it came with a different charger(bigger and wider connected to the terminal same as the one fixed to the bike frame), i change the brake to shimano mt200 hydraulic disc brake, tyres to continental fighter 2, pedal to rockbros, got same rack like urs aswell from halfords, love the bike, im thinking to buy 2 folding ebike carrera for me and my wife to do european tour next year
should go back to halfords mate as they change the charger already its not the 3 pin prong anymore
battery charge takes two hours not 5 hours on the carrea vengence
.I do 3 mile a day in 30 minutes on this bike., sport mode is best for over 50's.
Great review thinking of getting one of these or the subway e bike on cycle to work scheme
If you can get this on the scheme I absolutely would, my commute to work has been made million times better, left the car at home,.cycling in this takes maybe 2-5 minutes more ? So much better.
Great video. I'm buying one this week. Cheers!
Whats the torque , Newton meters
Nice one Andrew. I can now buy with confidence.
Hi great video really interested and really enjoyed it looking forward to seeing your next video keep safe 😷👍🏻
This bike is now £1099, i would have thought on a older ebike the price would stay the same but not the case i guess
700 quid they are 1099 now can't get one with my cycle to work scheme :( (Max 1000) grrrrr.
Join british cycling online and get 10% off Halfords, should bring you under the £1000 limit.
Great video keep up the good work
