This is around the time where lil Wayne put the game on a headlock. He really blew up after this, with his mixtape run and tha Carter 3. He basically self proclaimed himself as the best rapper alive and at the time it was basically between him and jay z. Both of their last names are Carter which brought a rivalry between them. Which later turned into a feature on tha Carter 3. This was definitely a situation where you just had to be there to understand. Not only that he influenced a lot of the rappers that came out after him.
Facts claimed to be the greatest on Carter 1, by Carter 2 ppl started seeing it, mixtape run proved it so by Carter 3 he was the biggest rapper in the world
@@tomwilkinson105 Hn. even though i love Dedication 2, its basically just carter 2 over different beats, and he already reacted to that. plus i’m thinking what would bob prolly like more. Da Drought 3 is far more entertaining.
This album is very good and imo is an improvement over the first Carter album, but his next batch of projects (Dedication 2, Da Drought 3, Carter III, No Ceilings) are on another level.
One of the big "criticisms" of Southern Hip Hop, especially in the early 2000's was their flows were always "slow", which some equated to being basic, and that's one of the reasons why you hear Wayne bringing it up multiple times throughout the album.
Bob, I hope you understand or can grasp the impact that this album and his mixtapes prior to and after this had on hip-hop. This put EVERYONE on notice. Anyone could get it at that time. Evident by him jumping on everyone’s beats and murdering them on their own track. He had the streets on lock during this era.
You mentioned you were going to tackle Tha Carter III next- You should also consider covering his EP "The Leak", which was originally going to be Tha Carter III, but ended up getting leaked (hence the name) right before the album was supposed to drop- so Wayne put it out for free and just went back and completely re-did a ton of new songs for the album that became C3. The Leak was insanely popular, but when C3 came out, it changed the world.
Really surprised by your reaction to Best Rapper Alive. The production is great. They’re sampling Iron Maiden because that choir sound gives the track a weighty sense of importance. Like Wayne is this god descending upon his enemies.
Hey bob if you're enjoying the southern sound you should definitely check out big krits "4eva is a mighty long time", its one of the best double albums in hip hop
Carter 2 is when i first started actually listening to full hip hop albums and i was wayne crazy after that. I went Carter 2 straight to his mixtapes starting with The Suffix. Sheesh this takes me back lol you definitely gotta hit his mixtapes along with mixtapes in general, they will change your perception of hip hop all over again.
Cool thing bout this channel: even when it’s not 100% my thing, I just really enjoy listening to Bob. Like hanging with a friend for a few hours.. every couple of days.
Yeah, he takes music in really well. I wish there was more of a request for early 2000s underground hip hop, as that era had so many incredible artists with unique sounds in an era that was full of repetitive waves. That stuff would be up his alley and it would be a shame to miss out on those artists.
Btw this is his 1st album without production from Mannie Fresh. A very fresh and new sound for Wayne as well as finding his own with being the flagship artist for Cash Money.
Tha Carter III will be an interesting one to get to as it has arguably his strongest crop of tracks, and was the one that shot him to superstardom as the biggest rapper in the world at the time.
You should really get into the mixtapes. I highly recommend Da Drought 3 as it is just after this album and before the Carter 3. IMO this is the pinnacle of his mixtape run and is the beginning of his long rein at the head of rap games table.
Rappers that don’t “write” usually lay their vocals down a few bars at a time. They aren’t just freestyling a whole song in one go, though still impressive.
The carter albums are unbelievable. I know it’s unrealistic but if you’re jumping into Wayne you have to listen to his mixtapes. Arguably his best works come from da drought and dedication series, no ceilings and sorry for the wait. Wayne is the quintessential rapper. Prob the best to ever do it if you consider commercial success, skill and just overall likability
Honestly the comment about not really going back to the Carter 1 is pretty valid. As a big Wayne fan I think Tha Carter 1 is the album I hardly ever go back to.
Bro stop trying to give Carter 1 that energy. Wayne rapped his ass off on that and is arguably his best album. Carter 1 & 2>>> and then it’s everything thing else.
The artist that don't write doesn't necessarily mean they are freestyling but they just keep that mental notepad In their head and have it ready when needed. Their minds are their rhymbooks.
The Carter 2 is a classic. The Carter 3 is the best top to bottom. And the Carter 4 has some of the best rapping and lyrics. Sounds like people underrated Carter 4
Was growing into a teenager around this time and Wayne will always be my #1. Gotta do Carter 3 and maybe a mixtape like no ceilings. Hustler musik is diamond lil Wayne.
Also should note Jay Z admitted himself he questioned his rapping abilities when Lil Wayne hopped on one of his songs and bodied him on it (Dough is what i got)
When you get to CIII dont miss 'Playing With Fire'. It was replaced with the completely undeserving 'Pussy Monster' due to Copywrite from the Rolling Stones.
If you got the cd when it came out, the production on “best rapper alive” is incredible. They must have lost the sample clearance because ever since the album dropped they pulled out the meat of the beat and it’s just hollow now… I can’t find the original and lost the cd… it was an epic track before the production change.
Got to listen to Like Father Like Son. It's basically Tha Carter 2.5. Also listen to the original Carter 3; It got leaked before release, so he just released it at as a mixtape, and re recorded new songs for the Carter 3 that was ultimately released commercially
Producer Mannie Fresh gave carter 1 more of a new orleans bounce vibe thats fun and upbeat. this album strays away from that a bit which isnt a bad thing but i think is a reason why you really liked wayne on "D-Boy". That fun new orleans vibe is back. that song fits carter 1 the most. Carter 2 was more serious and dark in my opinion
In the Song “Receipt” I think you missed the part in the chorus where they said “ to redeem your love” . To me he’s holding on to the Receipt of their love in case he wants it’s back.
Hey, I know this may not be connected to this album, but I'm curious to see you listen to Man On The Moon 2. You listened to MOTM 1 and enjoyed it, and I think you would like that Kid Cudi project too

The idea behind "Fuck bitches, get money" in this context isn't about having sex with many women. He's more so saying forget about them. Don't focus on bitches, focus on getting your money up. That's why the voice in the background, on the last bar, says "Money on my mind, so money is all I think of". We not thinkin' 'bout bitches, they gonna be there whenever.
