His father was sitting next to him the whole video ! Yes that’s his real father and those real tears ! James Blunt would not allow any editing on this video only one take !! His father who was a kidney donor ironically had stage 4 kidney disease ! Only a few months to live…. After the release of this song James asked anyone who was type 0 ! If they would consider donating one of their kidneys to his Dad ! None of his family members or he were a match but someone stepped up and gave him a kidney and his Dad is still alive and well today ! This song makes me cry every time…. You’re reaction made me cry ❤

I've watched a lot of reactions to this song and I do like to see where people break....you broke so early and repeatedly..it must have hit you hard..it hit me hard....loved your reaction. My father and I were estranged and when he passed I didn't have the possibility of being alone with him..so this song really hit me hard. I think you must have had a similar experience.

Marsha I cried with you, I've seen it before and it hits hard, but it's kind of good it's cathartic to let the tears flow and not everybody does, I loved your reaction because it was honest and real you didn't hide anything from us and for that I thank you, I cried with you, you're not alone.

Marsha, thank you for sharing your viewing of Blunt's 'Monsters'...while not fighting to make sure your real emotional vulnerability to the piece was not visible...as so many reactors make the mistake in doing. In part...the song was beautiful for you...because Blunt is so honest in his emotional visibility...his honesty and openness...his transparency. When reactors are real...they also move their audiences...and in cases like this...help initiate the venting of stored memories and meanings that still have toxic sting on both sides of the screen.
You started to share with your viewers why you were crying...and in touching it...had to quickly back away and sign off. I understand why people do that. You shared how you probably wouldn't have watched the video if you'd known what it was about. Let me offer something...
That music video tapped in you places you're holding memories and the meanings you have assigned to them...and haven't figured out how to let go of the meanings or memories. Before the video...you were trying to go through the day as if those broken spaces don't exist...and James called to them and brought them front and forward again...in a manner in which you weren't ready...and in shutting off the feed...said loudly...'I don't want to deal with this emotional scarring right now'. I don't know what you know about how the mind works, but pain, emotional pain, is largely about expectations you had of the world...expectations that helped inform you of who you were in that moment in relationship to the world (i.e., good-n-bad, valued-n-nonvalued, smart-n-not so smart, etc) and in the breaking of the expectation...you internalized a breaking of how you wanted the world to think of you. Pain is the disorientation to our self-images of value that are broken in broken expectations that we valued so much...we can't easily let go the memory...because we can't let go the meaning.
You seemed to make clear...you were carrying a lot of scarring of intense memories that the song stirred up. We are taught very little of how to deal with our emotions as simply reflections of how we're thinking...and more importantly...how we're believing. Not given much insight...we fear our emotions that are strong...and especially the one's that hurt. You might find it useful to listen to songs like 'Monsters' on a regular basis to assist you to look at what your emotions are telling you about...your self...not the world outside of you. About the world inside of you we've conditioned you to ignore and fear...instead...engage. Listening to such songs allows you to pull these emotions forward so you can watch and learn and inspect what you're feeling...and what makes real sense...instead of what is east to fear, ignore...deny? Memory...isn't here now...and the emotions they elicit help point us to how deluding memories are...and how much they trap us in them as we fear to look at them...in the light.
I loved watching your tears stream down your cheeks as you made no effort for the most part to stop them. That is being present, in this moment...in your skin and not outside of you looking at yourself trying to primp your image...as if people want to watch you be 'cute' or whatever. Like watching Blunt...they want to see the real you. So go tackle those memories...and help yourself be ever more free and powerful before things that seem so frighteningly easy to overwhelm you...mark

The first time I watched this, I broke the first time he said "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just 2 men saying goodbye." I lost my momma to cancer 11/11/2011. I know exactly how he is feeling in this song. You never "get over" losing someone. You just get use to the pain.

Thank you for taking the time to hear this song. My Dad died a few years ago. Time doesn't heal grief, it only changes it.
When I find myself trying to be strong, when really I should be vulnerable and allow myself to grieve, I play this song. It's like a key that unlocks a door so that I can take another step through and continue to heal.
    Thank you again.

Thank you, and yes...my lovely Dad died 18 months ago and I no longer cry every day, but the grieving process (and guilt...nobody warned me of the guilt about EVERYTHING, despite the warm and loving relationship i had with him 😢) is still very much on-going. When i first heard/saw this song I cried SO HARD, and then had it on repeat, practically. Eventually it was cathartic. Somehow it truly does help to know that this kind of pain of loss is so universal ❤️

Hi Marsha, just a little background to this amazing video. This was the first time James had sung this to his father who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and wasn't expected to survive unless they could find a donor, which they did eventually. James' record company wanted him to use 'Auto-Tune' but he refused because he wanted this recording to be real, and 100% genuine, so the recording was done exactly as we see it. One take. James and his father were both former officers in the British military. I have no idea how he managed to hold himself together for this, I know I could never have done in that situation. The song hits you right in the heart and the head at the same time. I get your reaction totally. It's exactly the same as mine when I first watched the video. I couldn't say anything for a while either. Bless you.

Kidney disease not cancer, Still a fatal diagnosis as his father had already donated one of his kidneys and his blood type made a match almost impossible. This song is why a distant cousin was found who was able to donate a kidney.

James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father.. After media coverage, his father received a transplant. He's ok. 😀 Greetings from Norway.

  • @Thetexancoach
    @Thetexancoach 3 года назад +3

Miss Marsha, that was James' real father popping up in the video towards the end. He had a terminal kidney disease and the clock was ticking down in ending his life. With a rare blood type, no donors could be found for a transplant until a distant cousin, who had the same blood type, actually saw this video and contacted them. The transplant was successful, bur from what I understand, although still alive, the father has been in serious condition.
The video and record producers did not want James to perform in this way because they thought it to be too unprofessional. But in paying tribute and honoring his dad, James insisted. Although James was emotional throughout and even at times sang out of key, the video was a sincere and brutally honest presentation of a father/son bond.
To end with, you stated the video was beautiful and it was, but so too, even more was your reaction. You showed us how to conquer the cultural, racial, gender and societal borders that only point out our minute differences as opposed to our oneness in humanity. For that, I, we thank ya so much for that...

i was about losing my dad. not physical, but emotional. we barely spoke to each other over the past 15 years and when i heard this song and looking at your reaction, i was thinking about it. i started crying when you cried. cause it fits so good on my situation: we both did mistakes in the past, but we never said sorry or 'i love you'...and after hearing this i decided to message my dad that i want to talk to him with my two sisters who are also very unhappy with the situation. i wanted to change our relationship. i wanted to have a family after we lose each other over the years. now we try to speak more to eachother and it gets better.

This song really hit home to me. It brought back deep hurt I pushed away along time ago. After hearing this song it maybe me realize that the hurt is still very much alive. I truly believe that whatever hurt and mistakes we made with our love ones in the past, if it is repairable then repair your relationship. Life is never promise. The biggest mistake a lot of us do is live with regrets. Blessing to you and your family 🙏🏾 Praying that you and your sisters and father find a place of healing ❤️‍🩹

Its ok to cry. we're in this boat together, we've all lost someone. i lost my mother in 1974 from alcohol, i was only 4 years old, and i lost touch with my dad from the age of 16, i saw him from time to time until 2004 when he got lung cancer, i went to see him, cried my eyes out probably for all the years i didn't see him and regretted not having a better relationship, i wanted to know more about him but never asked. he died a week after i last seen him. You did a Great reaction.
