When james first came into the music scene with "Your Beautiful" i was in my mid teens and never gave him a chance. Now in my 30's im starting to realize the musical genius this man always has been. He literally can write a song about any situation life deals him and touch everyones hearts

Miscarriage hurts like hell. My wife and I lost 4 children to miscarriage. We will just have to wait longer to meet them, but I truly believe they all have a hair color, eye color, tone of voice, distinct laughter, and personality all of their own. I can’t wait to meet them one day!
And I resonate with your closing statements about loneliness. People don’t talk about miscarriage. But it is real pain, and there is real healing. Blessings 🙂

My sister had a miscarriage and still talks about him like the son she was never able to meet, despite being 15 years later. As someone who has never gone through that, I can only imagine the pain that comes with that.

My wife and I went through this. It's been over 20 years, and I still feel that little girl in my heart. And like this song mentioned - by already having a name for her, made her...more real, somehow.
We have a wonderful son, but he can't (and shouldnt) take her place.
'Monsters' is very emotional also, but this song hit me so much harder.

As a fifty-odd year-old man who's never been married, never had kids and never wanted to, this song couldn't have been less for me if he'd tried, and it _still_ hits me like a punch in the guts. Every. Single. Time. That's how good he is. Sadly, I understand that, just like Monsters, he's writing this from direct personal experience.

9:16 I love that you're always able to empathize with those in your audience who may or may not have undergone trauma related to the song you're watching. There is something truly beautiful about people who want to reach out to those they don't even know, and it's a rare quality in people. In that regard, I wish the wisher of wellbeing in others a wonderful day.

Such a heartfelt reaction. I am blessed to have 2 sons but I also have 2 angel babies. I longed for a daughter. I was desperate for one. Lots of heartache. I wouldn’t change the journey I had to get my boys though. I’d like to think that one of my angels was a girl. That thought keeps me going.
When I lost one of my angels I had people tell me it’s natures way of saying something isn’t right. Please don’t say that to anyone. We already know that but don’t need to hear it. I was falling into a dark place but my mother-in-law at the time rang me from the other side of Australia. She said I’m grieving with you. That was my grandchild. That sweet sweet lady got me through with a few caring words. May she RIP.

Hey Aileen, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 thank you so much for reacting to this song, my daughter Gwenllian was sadly born sleeping in 2020 and while this is a sad song for a tragic circumstance too many of us have been through, it's amazing to me that someone was willing to address and sing about something too many people refuse to talk about, especially us men who usually push feelings down and try to ignore them, it's helped me a lot and I hope this song can help many others!

I fell apart too, 60+ guy who knows this loss even after we had a daughter who sang in the sunlight and the smiling boy holding a fishing pole. She was devastated and so was I but I had to be there to share and give all I could for all the stages of grief she went through. We are in our 60's and we still talk about that loss and it is always followed by a long moment of suffering silence and ends with, "I love you." Your reaction was pure so I thank you for sharing that vulnerability.

Hi Aileen 😊 Very thoughtful and touching reaction to James Blunt's The Girl That Never Was😊👍 I worked with two ladies that had miscarriages. The range of emotions... First, Joy in finding out they were pregnant, to the feeling that something was wrong inside, then finding out that the baby is no longer. There were collective hugs for both of them, letting them know that we're with them for a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and just being there. Looking at all the comments and listening to you... all messages so beautifully and eloquently stated... I have nothing more to add. Much love to everyone and collective hugs 🤗 PS please more James Blunt.

Man, I wasn't expecting this from this song! I haven't heard anything from James Blunt since my mom was into his song "1973" way back when! When I was married to my first wife, we went through 3 miscarriages in 3 consecutive years from 2012-14. They got correspondingly worse for her, with the last 2 being tubal pregnancies that ruptured her tubes, causing her to hemorrhage internally, with the 3rd one almost killing her, and I was in surgery for a hernia when that one happened, and couldn't even be there for her. We ended up separating 2 months later and divorced the following year. Thankfully, we have a beautiful soul of a son who is 14 years old together, but this song really affected me, because I know how hard it is to go through this kind of event. Obviously, it was much more difficult for my now-ex-wife, with nearly losing her life, but it was still heart-wrenching to lose 3 other children before they had the chance to be born...

This is such a sad song about a tragedy and lost hope. But behind it is trying to celebrate the prospective life, joy, and expectations. He pays tribute to her and sees her experiencing happiness in heaven. Also, he reaches out to his wife and tries to loft her out of the self-doubt and blame she is putt9ng on herself. It is a song of love all around.

I love how you find these songs I've never heard before and so I'm reacting just like you. I'm on my 3rd marriage now of over 20 years. But when I was married to my first wife, she had a miscarriage. It would have been my first born child. I never got to fully process this because she was still stationed overseas and I was back here in the states Not too long after we decided to divorce. It wasn't related to our miscarriage, or so I thought at the time. But we were both really young. So maybe some of the things that happened to cause our marriage to end were related. But I never got to know. I think part of it was her dealing with this experience in ways that were hurtful and bad for our marriage. But maybe I should have been more attentive and tried to understand her feelings and what she was going through. I'll never know. It's all water under the bridge now. But this song made me think about that time and what I went through and possibly what I never allowed myself to process at the time or since. So thank you for your channel and bringing these songs to the audience. It was a beautiful, melancholy song. Monsters was also beautiful. I dedicated that one to my dad this year on his birthday. He passed in 2010 and I still miss him.

I have a five-year-old daughter who was conceived through IUI. Since a fertility clinic was involved in the procedure, they conducted an ultrasound on my wife earlier than would normally occur in a pregnancy. The result showed that we, in fact, had been pregnant with twins, but one of them was lost. Our daughter had a tough time of it in the early days after a c-section birth, but survived. She is on the autism spectrum which has presented us with major challenges, but we are doing our best to give her the best life possible. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the loss of her sister or brother who was never even given the opportunity at a chance in life. This song hits me to my core. I will live out the rest of my days thinking about the girl (or boy) that never was for us, and how my daughter will grow up never knowing the sibling with whom she shared a womb, even if only for a few short weeks.

once I heard this song. It takes me back to when me and my significant other went thru this with our first child. My baby boy. He was almost here we were going into the 8th month and something so stressful happened to my significant other and stressed her out so much our baby boy and the man up stairs had other plans for him. And we lost him. This song hits hard. 😢😢

No matter what the genre music tells a story. This connects every one of us with a beating heart and a beat for music. Bless the connections music brings no matter where you are from.

Sad, but beautiful and meaningful at the same time. As with Monsters, and James has explained, writing a song is how a singer deals with pain and hurt by writing a song about it. This is also a song trying to deal with difficult emotions. His form of healing. And he and his wife now have 2 boys.

As a fellow solider who served in the same country as blunt for a short time his two military songs are soul crushing and are as powerful as this song and monster

This song hits me so hard as a father of two kids, if I imagine to lose one of them. It is the worst what could happen for me. Great reaction and great words.

Look, I'm a fan of heavy stuff. I'm loving the new Mirar and Disembodied Tyrant vids going around. I have never...ever...seen such strategically violent music at the level James Blunt makes.

I love the way you relate to all the songs. I couldn't sleep last night and stumbled on your videos. I subscribed because of the way you relate on a personal level. Thank you. This was a hard song.
A song I'd love to see you listen to is Marina Del Rey by George Strait
