- E37 Summer Daze Vlog of Life in a Nutshell narrowboat travels.
We left the Debdale Wharf Marina with Nutshell all sparkly and headed back to the base of the Foxton Staircase Flight. A left onto the Market Harborough Arm and towards the market town of Market Harborough.
We checked out a pop up pub and tasted a few ales, wandered around the beautiful city and found nooks and crannies from a bygone age.
An enjoyable, historical day.
Thanks for watching.
See you tomorrow for the next episode of Summer Daze.

Cheers
Magnus, Wendy........ I am bloody proud that you lasted the 1 episode (in 3 parts) without going to the Pub or a Beer house, and only surviving with that horrible Guinness... i thought you would have died from beer deprivation, but oooo im glad your alive ;)
We had a few once we got to Market Harborough to celebrate.
Crazy history there! Love it.
It's a wonderful place
We need to see the paintwork, now Nutshell is back in the water please. Thankyou if you have time. x
I'm sure Wendy will film it for you and stick it in the next vid.
Thankyou Magnus and Wendy x
Great vlog guys full of atmosphere.Cheers
Thanks Ade
My home town, glad you enjoyed it .
It was wonderful
You missed a gem of a pub , round the corner, the Cherry Tree in Little Bowden. Maybe next time , love your videos .
Nice one... you no something I lived Lutterworth for many years and Market Harborough was one place I never got around to visit , so thanks for the glimpse of it..
Our pleasure
Funny that one, stayed in the The three Swans some 35 years ago, I was 18 years old
The building next to the canal at the 2 minute mark, was a 'hoof and hair' works. Animal carcasses were disposed of there to make glue amongst other by products. It really stinks on a hot day. Great video.
It was defiantly on the nose
@@LifeinaNutshell Haha! I lived in Wharf House at the Mkt Harborough canal basin. You would have passed it when going into town. Anyway I paddled up to Foxton in a kayak one hot summers day. The stench of the glue works was dreadful. I am not sure if it is still operating now though.
Every time you have one have on for me!!
you're sat in my seat!!
Kept it warm for ya.
You guys make me laugh so much, I love your town exploring bits more than the cruising but I assure you that's just me! Another cracking video, and I'll definitely check out the Beerhouse when I visit MH - which is quite often as that's the station I use when I visit my boss. Cheers 8^)
Thanks Robbie. Do check out the Beerhouse. Great range of Real Beer.
Hey Magnus & Wendy! Thanks for seeking out beerhouse whilst you were in 'Harborough, we're really pleased you scored the beers so well, even though the Nobby's was a tad warm! Great to hear you were welcomed by a chorus of local brew dogs too ;). Can I share the video on beerhouse's facebook page?
Hi Helen. No worries. Go for it. Great spot. Cheers
Damn, missed you both by a day. Was in Market Harborough visiting my mum, and at Foxton Lock that lunchtime being treated to lunch. Maybe next time. Love the channel.
It would have been great to say G'day
You can always rely on an animal !! stealing the show...did make me laugh..The M H arm looking absolutely lovely thankyou xx
Its a great little trip
Thanks guys.
You're welcome Harry
Hi Wendy and Magnus,
Last time I commented I said I was going to get a Mavic - well I got one! It's brilliant. I loved your videos from Australia, using the Mavic I guess?
Rob
Hi Rob. Congratulations on joining the drone world. Yes I used a Mavic in Aus.
beauty , once again you are making me thirsty for beer and travel ;) Back on great filmaking form again, a bit of this a bit of dat, like I say beauty :)
Thanks
Currently boating along the Leeds Liverpool, struck up a conversation with a lady who mentioned she'd spoked to another Australian couple who were boating around and they had a boat with a lovely name, "I think it was nut something", "was it nutshell by any chance?" "That's it, how'd know?". not bad :p
Fantastic. It's such a small, close community.
Life in a Nutshell .... but getting bigger! 😊
Did add a pic to my id, but am upside down.. So not bothered..... As usual brilliant vlogs... What more can I say
Cheers Andy. You look good.
Boy oh boy, do I ever miss real British beer. Mexican lager just does not make the cut.
The British stuff has a lot more body
Hi M & W! Love your videos. If you get a chance, could you please stand back and give us a good look at the freshly painted Nutshell. I know it is gorgeous. :} Julie
It will be on the episode in a day or 2. Cheers
Now did I see that right you pulled the swing bridge the wrong way. And you thought you got away with that.....
You are 100% right. I totally tried to pull the swing bridge the wrong way! W.
Wendy, I did laugh, good one!
During the live chat I ask about how tall Magus was, because I am 6'5 1/2" without shoes. Have you seen any narrowboats with a higher ceilings? Or would I have to have one built? If so I would definitely have bow thrusters.
Hi Marvin, there are a few narrowboat forums online discussing height suitability for a 6ft plus person.Narrowboats are usually 6ft"10" wide. But accommodate my hubby fine, he is 6ft 3. He does not need to stoop! You could look on Waterways World.com Q AND A they pretty good for advice.
Marvin Hicks hi marvin, saw your message, this may help, take a look at narrowboat channel minimal list, they have a Liverpool boat, its taller than others.good luck in finding your ideal boat. hope Wendy and Magnus don't mind this post.
Hi Marvin, our boat was designed by a couple where the man was 6'3". The trick is to have the floor lower rather than the roof higher. You can do this generally without increasing the draught of the boat. You certainly don't want to make the boat too high in the water as you may struggle to get under some bridges!
Was Wendy trying to swing that bridge the wrong way at the beginning? :) I'd have chosen the same beer from the menu Magnus. Nobby's Northampton Red sounded good. I haven't had it, but I think I'll try and find it :) Oh, and the glass you drank out of was from a brewery a few miles away from Peterborough in Oundle (Nene Valley Brewery - www.nenevalleybrewery.com/NVB/Home.html ). They have some cracking beers! I'll bring a selection over next time we meet up :)
Wendy had a bit of a challenge with that bridge. I'm sure it will be easier today on our way back. Look forward to catching up with you soon. Cheers
excellent as per norm 😊 did you ever find yourself in those alleys?! lol well you seemed to be in one out another! 😜
oh the pub.... wow! excellent find! all great!
I like the idea of these 'Pop up pubs' bringing real ale back to the people that really appreciate it. The talk at the bar was all about beer. Fantastic
Glömde säga att jag suttit vid datorn 3 timmar och väntat på ert inlägg, cheers
Oh no. We were there at 7pm London time
Always strikes me that the British beer's alcohol content is so low compared to the Belgian beer. Wonder why that is.
I've never had Belgian Beer. Must give it a go one day.
Do you keep a register of the votes you give to all the beers you taste?
No. But I should have done it from the beginning
Love it! Barking mad!! 🐕 🐕🐕 Not bad.
I am loving all this frequent video posting. So good. As a south australian farm lass Magnus I didn't realise about the crop density in Eng V Aus. Huge paddocks we have huge! I also love how you are pausing the camera on interesting buildings Wendy and sharing the history of with us- informative and fabulous. Thanks alot guys :) Nicole
Thanks for watching Nicole.
Awesome Videos Guys keep them coming luv watching them , :-)
Cheers
If ever you venture onto the Trent then be sure to stop at Burton and visit the National Brewery Museum - take the guided tour - did it yesterday and it was well worth the effort
A few people have mentioned it. It's on my list.
Very envious , we spent a very pleasant couple of days moored up in Union Wharf last year , and hope to visit again.
It was a nice spot.
lol loved the pun.
Cheers
