  • Having moored up early the previous day, to avoid inclement weather, I awake to heavy rain. Will it ever stop? Eventually, I continue my cruise to Foxton Locks, at the northern end of the summit length of the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal, the furthest extent of my journey on this trip. A brighter day beckons but for how long?

    Hi Alan.. I think that rainy days can often be some of the best on a narrow boat. The soporific sounds of rain on the roof and a warm fire are a very inviting combination. Thoroughly enjoying your trip.. 🍷🍷

    Short but sweet Alan. We who live in London forget sometimes just how green and verdant the English countryside really is especially in the autumn after some rain. Have you heard yet how the forthcoming lockdown will affect your cruising? I hope for your sake and for your viewers that it won't be too harsh. Thanks again, Alan. Look after yourself. Stephen.

      Many thanks Stephen, thanks for watching. I think it will be like before, cruising won't be allowed. Should get some more clarification tomorrow. The marina will be in lockdown, so leisure boaters won't be able to visit their boats. Take care and keep safe, cheers Alan

    So nice that rain held off so you could move on to the locks and nice that the locks weren’t busy. The footage was very nice. I’ve often wondered the origin of the word gongoozler. If we lived in the UK I would likely be one 😂😂

      Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. Gongoozler is an odd word isn't it! Research found this "The word may have arisen from words in Lincolnshire dialect: gawn and gooze, both meaning to stare or gape". All the best Alan

    Hi l
    Alan, aways watching your logs and always give you the thumbs-up. One thing I would like to mention if you don't mind, you two pv modules do really need a good clean if want full output from them. Also buy leaving your rope over the modules you are reducing the output. They need to be kept clear and clean at all times.
    Try it and see, take an output reading before and after.
    Keep up the good videos.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 года назад

      Hi Tony, many thanks for the advice. This has been mentioned before, so I have stopped doing it now. It was just easier to rest the rope there, as it helps stop it snagging when mooring up. I have also cleaned the panels. Many thanks for watching and commenting, cheers, all the best Alan.

      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 года назад

      Glad you liked it Helly, the weight of a narrowboat will easily push a floating log to one side but there are much lighter craft in the water, such as cruisers and sometimes kayaks, so overall not good for anyone. Take care

    Lovely to see foxton locks again. About 60 years ago I often went gongoozeling there as I didn´t live very far away..a few years later I moved away from the area when I was a teenager. The last time I was there gongoozeling was about 4 years ago when I went visiting friends and relations that still live near by....and I bought a few souvenirs..a plaque that is screwed on to my garden shed door and a coffee cup etc etc. Happy days.

    Thanks Alan the weather was certainly changeable as it was this weekend. It was far too windy to move the Swamp Duck but I did manage to get a load of filming done so that I have enough to get through to the beginning of December and hopefully to the end of the latest lock up. Not gonna be able to stay over on the boat till then unless some government minister breaks their own rules again which I'm sure will signal the end of public cooperation this time. All the best to you and keep safe. Alan.

    Well done Alan - another relaxed period of calm watching your vlog, Did I spy a horse by Foxton Locks? Is it bronze or whicker? Hi Keith, nice to hear from you, all is fine thanks. The speed limit is 4mph, I probably travel at 2.5/3 mph. There is no speedometer only a rev counter. I really don't know the boat's top speed and I've not had much success trying to work out its speed using apps. Cheers, take care Alan

      @@MyNarrowboatVenture Any GPS should display a reasonably accurate ground speed.

    CRT don't normally allow mooring opposite a winding hole, do they?

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 года назад

      No that's right, but it will depend on the space available. I don't think there was any problem in mooring at Foxton Locks opposite the winding hole, there would be signs preventing it and I don't recall any. Cheers

    Did you turn at a winding hole or a wide gap as there was a boat moored opposite?

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture

      It is marked on the map as a winding hole but it's extra wide there, as there is an old arm, which branches off, that used to go to the top of the 'short lived' inclined plane. It is ok for boats to moor alongside the towpath there, plenty of space. Cheers.

    What happens if lockdown comes into affect?

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 года назад +1

      It would be similar to how it was in March except the schools and universities are staying open. Boating will be restricted and the marina is going into lockdown.
