You saved my sister 100$ which is what this “we fix it” store wanted to charge for replacing both top and bottom screens. I restore old Gameboys, gameboy advance, and color. So I already have a lovely micro tool set. We paid 28$ off eBay for both top and bottom and I was able to fix his new galaxy edition 3DS XL! Thank you!!
3:02 that’s basically a second circle pad (called the c-stick) that allows for dual analog controls on some “new” 3ds exclusive games like Minecraft and Xenoblade
oh god you just made my day. My dad gave me a new 3ds xl before passing away and the screen just got 2 crack on it i thought i was going to have to throw it away
you prolly dont care but if you are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf lately =)
Seems like there are two different versions, one you just pull, another you need to lift the flap a bit then pull. It's unfortunate quite a few people had the same issue. (step 13 @ifixit Nintendo 3DS XL 2015 Camera Replacement comments).
Same thing applied to the psvita. I had to get another system and put another front screen on that one. Now the old one is for parts except the port I broke that needed to be lifted. The beauty is, if you backed up the internal system data and the other files, you can restore them from a PC. The psvita had everything on the memory card, but not sure about the 3ds internal data for the built in apps. The name of the data is the ext.data.
I cant manage to get the hinge out to seperate the top half. Ive tried my smallest screwdriver and a paper clip. I got my new xl used, and the plastic inside the hole looks pretty worn out. Is there any other way to pull it out? Or another tool I should use?
Thanks for the guide I have complete the top screen replacement successfully but I broke the wire cap at 4:28. Is that the reason of bottom screen’s sens not working?
hello, there is a nintendo new 3ds LL console, there was a broken upper screen by half, we ordered a new one from Aliexpress, it turned out to be IPS, there is an image, but 3d cuts the eyes at the maximum, at the minimum it still went nowhere, I tried to calibrate super stable 3d, it does not help. Can you help?
Buy some at Walmart but make sure you get the small bit set. Otherwise you’ll strip the screw heads and the tweezers and theirs a suction tool along with what looks like a guitar pic only thinner.. all of which is cheap or you can purchase one off amazon along with the actual replacement screen.. thus far I’ve been able to repair both top and bottom screens using this video on my nephews Nintendo 3DS XL galaxy edition. The actual casing and buttons are in flawless condition. But somehow he managed to crack both screens. 38$ later (I already had the tools since I enjoy restoring game boys and game boy advance) so it wasn’t that difficult. But I love the tip he gave about the white clips vs black clips.. I always took pictures after each step so I could remember how to reassemble. But that just helped 10x fold
I have a New 3ds xl in bad condition with a top IPS Sceen and a new 3ds xl in perfect condition with an bottum ips screen. Is it possible to replace the top screen?
I saw how you were removing the screen protector cellophane and mine didn't come that way so I was prying up the polarizing film and almost destroyed mine.
Can’t even make it pass the second step after you remove the back cover plate cuz one of the screws is stripped. I tried but it’s a circle in there now😢so much for trying to do this myself. I give up
Little late on the comment the ribbon cable is supposed to be that way because it was the same on one of mine and I bought it brand new the only reason I took it apart cus after 2 years or so it started making a popping sound when trying to turn on
Hey I liked and subbed, I want to order a new screen for my 3ds as well as the proper tools to install the screen so I would like to know the names of the tools used in the video as in the exacto blade, screwdriver, and tweezers Thank You
got a 3ds from ebay recently and the lister didnt specify the screen quality, i was dumb to buy it without a picture of it on anyways, but i got it at a massive deal and was able to get a replacement screen and this video helped alot! thanks!
TBO Clapper oh no, those are super sensitive. It’s one of the super common issues where a pin gets pushed sideways. Check and make sure your cables are inserted all the way and that they insert freely without obstruction.
@@profixerr6275 Thanks for the advice, I will try it later. The black latches do not close fully anymore and I read online that I could stamp the pins if I push down the black latches on the ribbon cables which I unfortunately did. I will try your solution though!

Hi there, could I ask if the hinge part comes out the same way for the "NEW 3DS" (smaller) variant? I am trying to replace the smaller one myself but I am unable to get the hinge part to dislocate from the main body. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
It does come out but as you have discovered it's so hard to do it genuinely feels like it's going to break just make sure you are grabbing the right piece before committing to it.
@@stonedsavage7814 Thanks. I managed to get the small one to come out. All I had to do was push the hinge out in that one particular position. Nothing to take out to make way for pushing the hinge unlike the XL.
Probably not, the best you can do is buy a IPS screen from Ebay. For whatever reason they mixed TN and IPS screens instead of choosing one or the other and being consistent
I feel like the two base and four face plate rubber screw covers are NOT necessarily salvageable... or worth trying. Long nails led to a scuffed rubber surface and eventual ripping, leaving behind a layer of rubber still covering each screw. Onto the extra risky solutions: I tried *carefully* using an X-acto precision blade. ripped (not cut) the rubber before the adhesive lifted. Slippage caused severe damage to the casing. Eyeglass micro flathead screwdriver - can't slip between plastic and rubber. Too girthy. Light attempts damaged the rubber surface, and deform the surrounding shell plastic like butter. ended up ripping all 6 of them. 1 of 2 base pads fully in half with my nail. 2 of 4 face pads in pieces , leaving behind adhesive. the last 2 face pads using a screwdriver via stabbing through to the screw head, fed up with the caused case damage trying TL;DR: Fuck it! The plastic shell costs more and is harder to replace than some (maybe irreplacable) rubber bits. Next time, I destroy rubber intentionally. Plan a replacement whilst ordering a screen, not after.
Why doesn’t nintendo just put a plug on the ribbon cable to plug into the back of the screen like the aftermarket ips gba displays I can literally change my funnyplayin v2 ips display in 5 minutes you just unscrew the 5 screws around the screeen open the top unplug the screen pop a new one in plug the ribbon cable back into the screen and put the 5 screws back in done not taking about the bottom or anything you don’t even gotta remove the battery it’s so easy and simple
It literally is "New 3DS XL" not a "3DS XL" they are different models. its funny you even say "new" jokingly in the video... The console has NEW written right on the back. only the new 3ds xl has the joystick nub on the right side. Sadly needs to be retitled.
Is the replacement you out in a ips or tn screen? If ips where can i order one? I have an ips screen and want to keep it that way but jabe dead pixels on the corner so need a mew screen and having a hard time finding a screen with a real description labeling it one or the other. Just say lcd top screen for 2015 and the sellers say they Dont know. Please help

Hey i know your comment is super old but how did you go about removing the bit where the hinge barrel goes?
I would have just paid the $100. Lol Have to take the whole entire system apart to replace.

The order of the cables: Camera at bottom, speaker second and then, the screen cable on the top.
depending on perspective, this could be backwards. I would reword it personally
Is the 3D effect functionality gone on this new replacement screen?
This video showed me enough to know Im not going to attempt it. I would have a pile of parts with a blank expression on my face.
This video is helpful I just wish you put sources for all the tools and replacement parts its pretty hard to find replacements that aren't terrible.
Great video, though I believe the thumbnail is incorrect, saying that it's a ps4 hdmi repair tutorial

Could you switch the name to NEW 3DS XL? I was looking for the 2010 normal 3ds XL version, I wonder if this video can applies to the original 3ds
Usually they are organized differently but if your ds has the same screws on the top screen with the pads ontop it should be almost exactly the same
You made pulling the ribbon through look easy. Nevertheless…I got it hahah 🤪🥵 Thanks!
Would this be the same for the original 3ds xl?
No, it is more easy

Hey, can you make a video for the 2010 edition?
Can't believe you have to disassemble the whole thing!
Is their an easier solution if you don’t have any of the tools?
Unfortunately no, just send in your 3ds to Nintendo if it's broken or to some repair place for a IPS screen instead of a TN one

is there a certain website?

does this work for the 3DS XL Galaxy version
it came out in 2016
Very similar process between all the Nintendo hand helds. I’d imagine its very close to the same
How do you remove the little rubber screw covers without wrecking them
Use an xacto knife in the little creases on the edge so that they come off clean.
