  • European Tour Part 2 - Denmark to Sweden
    Well this is it, we have embarked on our summer tour of Europe. We decided to head to the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden as so many others have show us France, Portugal and Spain so for something different we headed the other way.
    In this second part we cover heading out from Denmark to Sweden and onwards from here.
    We start our journey with a series of quick overnight stops in order to get us further inland and to the areas that we wish to explore.
    Join us this week picking up from last week where we arrived at First Camp Malmö for a night. We then move on to First Camp Oknö where we run into a little hiccup to then move on to Norrköpings Camping for 5 nights. Then from here we move onto First Camp Kolmården.
    where we stay in Denmark and Sweden with some amazing campsites and places to stay.

    Karina I take my hat off to you, the concentration needed for safe towing and the distance you've covered over a short time is remarkable, well done. Those mosquitoes, what a shame having set-up, to be attacked by insects and poor fudge, disappointing but you made the right call to move on. Thoroughly enjoying your tour, can't wait for the next episode, seems like ages since the first one, but it is your holiday 😊. Your experience so far has certainly provided food for thought as to where to stop and how to travel. 👍👍👍

    I feel your pain Jules, Bugs just love me. I got bit a couple of years ago in France and ended up with Cellulitis. Antibiotics, creams and raging temperature, Dr wanted to send me to hospital. So be careful scratching those bites. Keep them clean!

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the warning, I have up to today been able to resist the urge to scratch and then today whilst walking around the supermarket found myself itching my calf with my foot without thinking and that then started off a chain reaction. Luckily we have a great first aid kit and managed to clean it with a sterile wipe. How did you find France ? Was that with the van ? 👍👍

      Absolutely- been quite surprised how expensive it is but we can say that we have done it now. Just such a huge place to explore as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment and safe travels on Friday. 😊😊👍

    Just come across this, excellent..... I have friends in Allingsas in Gothenburg and was thinking of driving there when we get our motorhome. I drove over 12 years ago in the car before the kids came along so looking forward to going again. These vids will certainly help plan that journey. Where is part 1?

    Sorry if your impression of Denmark just is from Lakolk. We have so much more to offer in the rest of our small country. With beautiful camping sites where pitches are big and spacious and facilities are fantastic.

    I hope you have a restful time after that mosquito-enforced early move. Insects like the midge in Scotland just LOVE me! I get bitten by everything that can fly, and they normally email their mates to inform that dinner has arrived!
    I guess I would have moved, too.
    You mentioned lightning. A few nights ago there was SUCH an electrical storm here (Beadnell on the Northumberland coast 5 miles south of Bamburgh). I guess the storm must have been over Bamburgh/Holy Island as the sky lit up but there was no sound. A flash regularly every 10 seconds or so, like in the movies. Wierd weather here in the northeast at present. Three seasons each day...!

    Recommend Avon “Oh So Soft” body spray, very cheap and brilliant at repelling mossies, used it when I did the North Coast 500 on my motorbike. Apparently the Royal Marines buy it in bulk!

    As you say Sweden is not the cheapest country in the world. But 100 SEK for two chicken files is a little well over the top even for Swedes. I think 100 SEK per kg is more normal.
    Many grocery stores have freshly grilled chickens (not Lidl). A grilled chicken of about 1 kg costs about 55 - 60 SEK and is grilled in the store.

    When we crossed the bridge in April into Sweden we had our passports checked. Maybe we looked dodgy! Security guy laughed at us when our reply to him of where we were heading was Finland. He said “you have a lot of driving”. He wasn’t wrong! 3.5days of 9 hours driving to get up to Finland! How far are you guys heading?

    What mirrors do you use? We have a disco 3 and soon picking up a Thames so an 8ft van but worried my old mirrors won’t be wide enough. Many thanks, another great vid, cheers

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  4 года назад

      The mirrors we have now are are Milenco Grand Aero. Hopefully this link will work for you. If not you can buy them online and on amazon. Make sure you get the ones for SUVs. Some packs are flat, some convex and some mixed. It depends if you have any preference. The Milencos are the best towing mirrors you can get. Enjoy your new Thames!! 😊 amzn.to/2MC5wry

    we once went abroad Majorca I think in a hotel, I was bitten really badly as we were on a package holiday we couldn't move, to cheer myself up I made a front and back body map, I marked and dated each individual bite I still have it today in a suitcase every time I pull the cases out to go abroad it reminds me to get extra strength mossi spray.... ps not been abroad since we got the van 5 years ago. have a great adventure x

    Hi Guys from the videos the pitches seem a bit cramped than uk. I’ve toured in France and found pitch sizes ok. What are your thoughts.

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  5 лет назад +1

      I must say it has been a little bit of a mixture. Initially they have been small compared to the U.K. however the site we are at now is only what I can describe as more of a Haven site - bigger pitches but with lots of activities for children - a cafe and restaurant on site but also has beaches on two sides of the park. 👍👍

    Another interesting video. (Disclosure - I´m a Brit that lives in Sweden) - Pretty much spot on with everything. Groceries are expensive, but local chains (ICA, Willies etc) are better quality than Tesco, Sainsbury. The Bridge is expensive, however, you can buy a pass that is half price (good if you are coming back) - and you are visiting at the highest season. School Holidays are mid June to end of July.
    Looking forward to the next installment.

      @@HereWeTow Give the country a chance - it has a lot to offer. It's not cheap but generally the quality of most things is higher than the UK. (But you have to like woods, lakes and rocks .... :-) )

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  5 лет назад +1

      Ahh - I was a little ambiguous when I said hard to see it. What I meant was it’s hard to see it all as there is so much to see. Not that we are finding it hard to find what’s nice. It’s beautiful and we are really enjoying ourselves- we will have to book a return just to see more. 😊😊👍 and yes it has some wonderful sights.

    KABE and Polar are two swedish brands, high build quality and well insulated for (real) winter camping. (that keeps the heat out too). You'll see many of them. Hobby's are nice, and reasonably priced. Therefore a lot of them too. If you meant Bjølseth, these are a Norwegian brand that had it's EOL in 2006.

      Absolutely, it has been an eye opener for us - not in a bad way just that you get used to the space when back at home. That said the later sites we have been on are much better spacing and they do state that they have a 3m fire break. We would definitely recommend it.
