My God!!! Let's give credit when is due. Congratulations to all the talents that made this musical happen. Let's face it, Fela's work is as complicated as the man himself. Hence, his works are really hard to replicate. However, for these beautiful talents it is as good as it gets. As a Nigerian and Fela's fan. I pray God replenish your talents everyday.
Fela's musical contributions can't be matched let alone surpassed. The man was far ahead of his time. His music will remain timeless. I miss him dearly.
If you don't like this version then you wouldn't want to be around your radio on a Sunday afternoon on classic FM cus it's one of our favorite version of the song. Played every week
Oh God that lady have a voice like an angel and whoever is singing with her on that stage is truly a blood of our hero, man just keep it going your father left lot behind for you just don't stop I LOVE YOU AND I LOVE MY COUNTRY NIGERIA AND I LOVE OUR HERO FALE KUTI AND I LOVE HIS SONG. ONE LOVE AFRICA.
Nice rendition... Makes the original even more coveted. One thing about greats like Fela Kuti and Miles Davis is that they have this knack for never wanting to re-take their classic hits! One take, one studio session and that's it! That's how their music stays fresh and evergreen!
Watching this clip years ago was the reason I actually went to see this production when it was in Charlotte!! Michelle Williams was the star in the show I attended. This video with all the choreography give me chills everytime I watch it!
Love Fela and this incredible broadway production is amazing the woman has the voice of a Black Goddess she does not even need a microphone Proud to be Nigerian
I heard the rumors and articles written,,,now that I see this trailer i see HOW AMAZING this production turned out to be. I had no idea HOW GREAT this show turned out. YES Fela would be proud!!!!! I am positive he would have loved it.
I am SO mad that I missed the opportunity to see this play when it came to Houston. I hope they bring it back again. I know I would've been in for a treat, to say the least.
The lady spoke much better Yoruba and broken English than the guy. But we Yorubas can understand. They both tried, sincerely. I'm sure Fela will be impressed by this. May his soul rest in peace. A ra ra ra ra ....
That's my cousin Sahr Ngaujah; he was born in Sierra Leone. The actress name is Saycon Sengbloh Yoruba, her parents are Nigerian that's probably why her dialect is better. Both artists were rasied in Atlanta GA and found their start in theater from Tri-Cities High School and the Freddie Hendricks Youth Assemble of Atlanta (YEA).
@@send2dwight stop lying saycon is a Liberian American her parents are Liberians but she was born in Atlanta her pidgin English is good because she's a west African.
We are proud of them all because our government never see anything good about the great FELA but if you really know FELA if only FELA is still with us in person he will never allow this to happen
wow...great song. great delivery. its never easy getting it in its real essense and local dialect, but hey, music is universal. These performers weren't in his time or continent 30 years ago, but they did a damn good job. I grew up living less than 20 minutes from the shrine, and watched him perform this very song live in 1996. he truly was a legend, he was electrifying.
We should be glad Holly wood is reconizing our FELA not critize them for doing a good Job! Nobody can replace the originality of Fela, its them tell the next generation that there was once a Nigerian Lengend called FELA... Thanks to Will Smith, Jay-Z for their efforts in promoting African Culture, we are Proud of you guys..You are all Africans..Peter Tosh said no matter where you may be as far you are black you are an AFRICAN...God bless..
"...We should be glad Holly wood is reconizing our FELA..." If you knew *anything* about the man, then you would know not to make such a statement. I'm glad Fela's music is reaching more people but please, he never sought validation nor affirmation from anyone. Long live Afrobeat. Long live Fela.
Why are people mad at this? It sounds great. A bit 'americanized' but it's still a derivative of Fela's work. Folks should be elated. This is beautiful.
@Malcolm M silly what I'm trying to say is Fela not just a music icon but rather an icon of culture and heritage for we Nigerian / Africans. before you know it the Whiteman is already making money on it while Fela's families are there not getting anything or better yet take it from us. #staywoke
This is great. Mention one Yoruba actor that has this same voice range like Fela and will dance and act like this. Let's give it to them and not just criticize for no good reason. Let's take this as a great effort please. It might not have been perfect but it's really great.
Murray Edwards thats very true but Chiwetel Ejiofor playing the role of fela would have been good because, he is the absolute closest look a like to fela that i have ever seen and it would be really cool if he did movie portraying him
***** You are very right, there was speculation at some point that there indeed was going to b a movie and chiwetalu was supposed to act the part of Fela.
@MrAllenpardew I grew up 2 seconds away from the shrine. My house was actually opposite the shrine. I dont even need to go there since I can enjoy his music in my living room.
I'm proud to be a Nigerian cos of FELA. He made history. This is my favorite Fell tho.
The song, or Sahr Ngaujah playing Fela here?
Sahr worked a treat playing Fela in the Broadway shows. (y)
Fela reinforces my pride as a black man... And I am an AfroAmerican by birth and association. Forever FELA!
We black people in the west love fela also
U HAVE TO BE PROUD OF YORUBA FIRST BCUZ THAT'S WHERE THE PHILOSOPHY OF THIS SONG CAME FROM

So proud to be a Nigerian. Fela's music contributes to this sentiment.
This video makes me cry sometimes. I feel so happy watching it
8 years ago, I saw FELA when it was in Philadelphia. I really enjoyed it.
If you don't like this version then you wouldn't want to be around your radio on a Sunday afternoon on classic FM cus it's one of our favorite version of the song. Played every week

As a Nigerian, i don't know what to say but to say this is Beautiful
Love this song. No permanent friend, no permanent enemy. Great singing voices!
Saw the show last nite in Oakland, California with my queen and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely keeping Fela's music and his spirit alive.

Nice one water no get Enemy true talk
No other Lady can play Sandra Izadore like Saycon and none can play Fela like Saghr Ngauja. They have both been wonderful.
Spot right on! Also no one beats Lillias White as Funmilayo, the few clips I've seen of Patti in the role just didn't seem as Authentic imo.
i totally agree with you
