- I'm going to eat around in Otaru today. It's a small and quiet city in Hokkaido, Japan. And it's also delicious. You'll find a fluffy fromage suffle, deep fried chicken and otaru beer.

I like it already!
Hi, I have many Japan travel & food videos on my channel, check it out!😉
Well. It took 6 videos, but you finally got me with "salted squid guts". Always look forward to your content.
My Japanese wife loves that stuff. 😁
Yes that comment wiped away my smile when I heard that 😂
Well, it was laid out on the table for us so to speak. No need to google some deceptively coy name like sweetbreads, which are of course neither sweet nor bread.
German here, I'm glad you liked the food. The potato dumpling (or "Kartoffelkloß" in German) looks a bit different to the one you get here. But all the food and above all the music ist typically Bavarian, not typically German 😄 Funny to see that the Bavarian part is more popular in other countries.
As always a really good video. Can't wait for the next one! ❤️
Hi, I have many Japan travel & food videos on my channel, check it out!😉
War wirklich sehr schön anzusehen wie er in dem Brauhaus ist, da habe ich direkt Bierdurst bekommen
I once heard a Frenchman speak in a derisive tone about the German fondness for eating dumplings. Did he not know numerous cuisines have a version of these ? And, just what did he think quenelles were....
What?! That potato dumpling is the exact same kind my grandparents and parents all grew up eating in Germany and are the exact same kind I was raised eating, known as Knödel. And while yes, the dumpling and music are Bavarian in origin, even those tunes are almost identical to the songs my Opa would dance around the living room to 😂
Deep fried chicken! It looked a lot different than we have in the US, especially here in the south. Either way it looked delicious! The fluffy souffle dessert looked out of this world delicious! Thanks for showing us some amazing foods...except that salty squid guts! Ick!!!!!
Zangidon looked like the best dish to me. I'm definitely down for a craft beer or two also. 🍻
Ok, I’m game for almost anything, but you lost me at squid guts. 😮 the sashimi bowl looked AMAZING!
Oh man that POV shot of you cutting that roast pork had me salivating. So nice that wherever you ate seemed only a couple blocks from your hotel. A bit of European influence in this video, fromage souffle , Otaru Nord, and roast pork with German style beer. Yum 😋
Hi, I have many Japan travel & food videos on my channel, check it out!😉
So glad I bumped into the sister chanel or I would never have found this gem, I love your appetite and wanting to experience foods from new areas, the squid guts looked interesting.......
I love these videos. You must be hungry after that 🚌 trip
Prost! Most favourite entertaining Channel!
Otaru was so crowded when I visited 3 years ago, and it was really difficult to take in the shops and the sights... how I wish it could remain as a quiet town always like how it is in this video, but I guess the crowd will be back again once Japan is open fully to all tourists.
It'll be open to all tourists Oct 11, but it's going to take a long time for any of us foreigners except those who are both obsessed and wealthy to return to Japan, better yet Otaru
Among the general population, the news will be slow to spread, and people looking up how to go to Japan will sometimes see the old news that it's still closed and immediately plan somewhere else. On top of that, international vacations are usually planned far in advance, rarely last minute due to how cost prohibitive fights are. Finally, the aviation agency is struggling to offer enough flights in general due to staffing issues especially with pilots, so the sudden increase in demand won't be able to be met with appropriate supply. I suspect flights between non Japan countries would need to be cancelled to redirect resources to Japan flights to get more supply within the next 9 months
A note on that potato dumpling: That is supposed to act as a sponge to suck up all the gravy. Therefor you don't cut it with your knife but gently rip it apart. This will keep the dumplings pores open and maximizes it's absorbing capacity.
It looks like there were some crumps of (hopefully roasted) bread inside. That's a mark for a good potato dumpling - it gives some extra texture, and regulates the moisture during cooking.
I'm glad you enjoyed your bavarian food 😁
I missed Otaru. When we went there, we had LeTao cakes twice...in one day! We almost had a third serving..
I was in Otaru once briefly but it was in the middle of winter. It struck me as a very pleasant town. I thought I want to go back again someday in the summer. After seeing all the good food to have, I definitely want to go back.
Love your channel
My wife and I are from a community in Southern Indiana, USA, that has deep German roots. That sauerbraten you had for supper looked mighty tasty and reminded me of home. Granted home is only an hour and a half away from where we live, but we don't get back there as often as we would like...lol.
Hi, I have many Japan travel & food videos on my channel, check it out!😉
I love your videos. So comforting.
Thanks for posting this video!
That food look so good🤤
Oh man that fried chicken bowl in the beginning was making my mouth water!
My favorite in Otaru is the music box museum
👍😊❤🎉. Truly enjoyable channel
Blessings from Texas, USA. 👍👍
This time I made sure I'd eaten before I watched the video. I was doing well, then desserts !!
Of course it is a smiley face..!! No boubt about it my friend..!! You are a good drawer..!!
Love how much you enjoy eating!
So do I. I love how she says she can’t eat much after having a big breakfast, but can still fit in dessert 😍😍😍
Awesome, a new Solo food video.
But how much did the hotel cost?
I'm always impressed at how Japanese chefs take the care to make the food LOOK great.
It was about $50, but it’s normally a lot more expensive. Thanks.
Another quality video that has me hungry!
Such yummy food! And Beer! I think I liked the cake the best. Nothing beats having coffee and cake!
Fantastic
I've never been in Hokkaido before. It looks pretty beautiful and quite atmosphere. Thanks for sightseeing and sharing food recommendations. 👍😊 i'd follow your route once travelling there for sure.
That souffle looks
It's so different without the snow. I've only been there during the snow festival.
Any dish you react to with a WOO is going to be good. I envied you...that chicken bowl made me hungry even though I just ate a couple hours ago.
Lovely! The canal at night looked so serene
aww man I actually thought that the server gave you that flower and feel happy for you for a second there. Maybe one day you will have one
Enjoy your food tour a lot. Looking forward to seeing more.
Love your vids man, keep it up
And thanks again for sharing!
Forgive me STJ/FT; I have neglected to comment on your amazing content. I will fix this error... Thank you so much for the wonderful japan travel and food content. You are doing an amazing job with this channel...
I always look forward to your food tour videos. You experience a wide range of foods and they always look delicious, its great seeing dishes from each area. I'm a 100% satisfied watching your videos.
8:33-8:45 Oof, that flower has thorns.
I love all your videos! I’m going to Japan in a few days & really looking forward to the food! Thank you for your reviews!❤
Thank you for showing the maps of the routes you take and the Japanese islands. It is incredibly helpful for study with Japan having sooooooo, many islands and ports! ;)
Always nice to see your videos, even tho there was no curry rice!I guess the Bavarian food made up for it.
Thanks so much for the video! I've got a trip lined up for Jp in February.. and will be in Sapporo and Otaru. Coincidentally I was actually checking out hotels and Hotel Nord was one on my list... this video just sold it for me!... and now as a bonus I've got my eyes on that great fluffy souffle! :D
STJ oh how I wanted you to make a perfectly symmetrical dessert topping! It threw me off 😵💫didn’t know how much I needed balance until I saw all the toppings on one side 😅
Such yummy food, and the town seemed so quiet! Lovely, thank you!
the breakfast was like small carb, small carb...then a whole kaisendon, love that.
thanks for always making nice videos.
It makes me very happy to see Otaru Brewing is still in business! I had Otaru beer many years ago at the Sapporo Summer/Beer festival and remember it to this day!
Looked amazing! I am grateful !
That beer looked so good. But I would have to have sausages with it.
I like your food and travel content togheter with the information your giving.. and a question what kind of camera do you use
The deep fried chicken bowl gave me an appetite. then I saw the roast pork. It looked so good, so tender, so wonderful. Never saw roast pork look that good. The Fluffy Fromage Suffle was definitely enough for two. It looked delicious. Sashimi bowl was very attractive. Enjoyed the beautiful blue sea as you were going to the airport. Will definitely see you in the next one. Be well and stay safe. 😊
the breakfast just look so so
the bowl with all that yummy chicken / rice looks great - but you lost me on the dessert - looked like one big dairy nightmare for those of us who have lactose intolerances - I would pass and have something local for supper - or maybe go back for more chicken 😂🤣 thnx again for taking us along 🙏🇨🇦😷
Hi, I have many Japan travel & food videos on my channel, check it out!😉
Beautiful videos and throughly explanation thank you
That dessert looks awesome
All of the food n looked amazing and oh so good
The sashimi bowl sounds like it would be great for any meal.
I've seen a few videos on Otaru and it looks wonderful! Hokkaido seems to be so nice. Everything you ate looked delicious.
Love it cake looks amazing❤
It reminded me of the best trp i ever had with a friend . Thank you for the lovely video☺️
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the super!
@@STJfoodtour
My pleasure😊💓
I was content with watching the videos but now I have to go to Japan, specifically Otato to experience the Fluffy Fromage Souffle!
Good choice on the German restaurant too
Wonderful videos on both channels :) Though my dog isn't a fan of the sounds at the pedestrian crossings 🙉
I wish LeTao would put the nuts and caramel sauce in non-plastic containers :) But everything looks good!
Everything looked so good! Thanks for bringing us with you on this little foodie trips.
I would have gone with the Mettwurst (white sausage) with the Weissbier, but the Sauerbraten was an excellent choice as well! Otaru looks like an interesting place just outside Sapporo.
Very nice and food looks quite tasty and beautiful 👍🏻
The roast pork looked amazing! I got so hungry! Thank you for making these wonderful videos!
I went to Naruto Honten once, best fried chicken ever!!
I love to watch you and your trips and foods 😋
I visited Otaru for an afternoon back in November 2014 and visited the rail museum there. It was too cold and I was too sick at the time to go on a food tour. I really need to visit Hokkaido during the Summer months, or at least more like September. Great to see a number of food options. All looked fantastic.
Omg that soufflé 🥰
That is a very big "medium" beer!
Is it a customer to drink the soup like you drink coffee? Nice food!
Thank you for the food tour!
Certain foods are share in both our cultures. Potato dumplings looks like baked potato, which tastes great. I like fresh real rice. Fake rice does not taste as good.
Some of your dishes are similar to what is here. That pork roast looks great. Some areas use potatoes instead of rice. Farther South, grits are used instead of rice. Fried chicken is similar to the fried chicken here.
I noticed that you enjoy ramen noodles. I enjoy regular noodles. I wonder if the ramen noodles here is the same as where you are at. They taste bad. Maybe they are fake?
Thank you for listening.
Hahaha.... every "german" restaurant in japan is basically a bavarian restaurant xD you don't eat most stuff from the menu in other parts of germany :D
I am a foodie too .... But vegetarian, could you do a special or two on vegetarian and vegan ... I would love that .. please, please , 😁 Hugs from Australia 🇦🇺
that is my town i want to stay
Die Soße sah sehr dünn aus, und der Braten sehr sehnig. Ich würde das nicht unbedingt typisch deutsch nennen, eher klischeehaft deutsch ;) aber das Weissbier sah gut aus.
The sauce looked kinda thin (for german standards), and the meat looked kinda fatty/sinew-y to me. I wouldn't call that food typical german food, more like cliché german food. But the beer looked pretty tasty and authentic :)
Enjoy your cheesecake.
Local harbour fresh seafood is the best in Hokkaido, buy fresh cook fresh and its cheap.
12:56 Suggestion, try sauerbraten.
I know don't knock it till you try it but...salted squid guts.......😆
Sashimi bowl in buffet?! address!
The waitress definitely likes you I am sure :)
I needed this video today.
Everything looked very good, but some of the chicken still looked a bit too pink and translucent for me to eat
Compared to chicken white meat, the thigh meat does tend to look that way after being cooked. It is still safe to eat.
12:34 pm really? :-)
I wanted to see you eat the roast pork with chopsticks! I was surprised to see German food there, but then remembered I've eaten pork knuckle even in Singapore...
The presence of "Western" and "European" cuisines in Otaru, is due to the city's history as a trading port open to European nations (1899).
🍺 &🥩 !
“The reason I picked this hotel is the breakfast”. But you didn’t show us the breakfast?
Sorry I take that back!
Your German roast beef looked like someone's attempt at a prime rib dinner to me cooked well done, but juicy. If you ever get the chance, try to a prime rib dinner with baked potato in the US. You'll know exactly what that roast beef dinner should have been.
lol
my gawd, the city is like a ghost town.
For a second I thought it said Otakku Hokkaido. I was like what the hell?
Salted squid guts ? HORROR ! All the food you've eaten so far, lovely. Sometimes a little bit iffy with the raw foods.
But salted squid guts ? Six very large and muscular Sumo gentlemen could not hold me down and make me eat it !
For the first time in the history of Sumo, one small Spanish man will take out all six of them and then run for his life.
One small Spanish man, six Sumo, and one little dish of salted squid guts, bad combination.
those are green onions not shallots
We call them shallots in Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Solo San. I'd take that beer back and ask them to refill if. It has an enormous head on it. I'd also ask that the bloke who pulled that beer be SACKED or retrained on how to pull a beer.
The Japanese typically prefer beer to be poured with a large amount foam.
wait... Salted squid guts?? and you eat that? Enjoy.. but YUCK..
Salted squid guts 🤢
